Primordial vocalist Alan Averill has checked in with the following update:
"Forgive me it's been a while since my last transmission. It's been a long summer and an extended autumn but finally after the Way of Darkness Festival we are finished the festival season completely and I have to say I couldn't be more glad to be done with airports for at least 6 months. Getting up at the crack of dawn, airport security, landing then driving for another few hours to more or less go straight from the back of a van to the stage and then back home again after a sleepless night in a cheap hotel has really lost its appeal for a few months. I know this is what you sign up for when you start out in a band so it would be churlish to complain but for the moment I'm completely burnt out with it all.
"Until 2009... More...
Irish pagan metal ban PRIMORDIAL has been nominated in the category of the Best International Album at Danish Metal Awards 2008 (side by side with Metallica, Slipknot, Opeth and Testament). You can check out the whole list of nominations here.
The Danish Metal Awards take place on the 15th of November in Copenhagen, Denmark.
PRIMORDIAL will be co-headlining this fall's Heidenfest tour alongside Finntroll, starting on the 31st of October in Leipzig, Germany. Other bands on the bill include Eluveitie, Equilibrium, Manegarm and Catamenia.
Primordial vocalist Alan "Nemtheanger" Averill has posted the following update online:
"Summers fading into autumn. Well at least what we've been calling summer in 2008. For the second year in a row summer in Ireland barely crept over 20 degrees and was a rainy overcast bleak experience. Sounds very Black Metal, perhaps even more Doom Metal but the fact is it's been depressing. Mix it in with our spiral into recession and there seems to be a palpable gloom descending over the country as the nights get darker.
"I've addressed the issues as to why we couldn't play Dust to Doom and Caos Emergenta in previous Blogs so I don't think I need to go down that route again. Needless to say Simon is feeling well and we are hopefully going to be fighting fit for the remainder of the shows in 08. Thanks to many of you who write encouragement over the last few weeks.
"This year has also been had some of the absolute highs I've ever experienced in all my years in the band, the shows have been getting bigger and better but also some of the lows and at times a dark insight into the industry. The herd mentality of so many bands and paradoxically the lack of respect afforded many of them by the industry and the attitude of people who have crossed our paths in the "overground". People who never bothered with a band like Primordial now court our attention, ask our opinion on things, approach us or attempt to make a quick buck of our back. Perhaps if we were younger and more impressionable 2008 could have turned out far differently. As it was we found our old working practises coming under scrutiny as the band undenaibly grew bigger. As MT from Metal Blade told me, "All of a sudden now professional demands are being placed upon you". Professional demands on an unprofessional band. At times the stress has been great and I can speak for myself and say I've found myself sitting in the backstage circus surrounded by leeches and wondered is it all worth it. However once I set foot on the stage I find my perspective and find my reason. the Metal scene needs us. More...

Alan A. Nemtheanga, vocalist of progressive Irish metallers Primordial has recently checked in via the bands Myspace account, giving his own thoughts on the recent outbreak of conflict between Russia and Georgia.
"I've been watching this morning this escalating and impending conflict in South Ossetia in Georgia between Russia and the Georgians with a heavy heart.
"It bears all the hallmarks of another proxy war and battle of wills between a military resurgent Putin versus the UN and America. Despite the somewhat ficticious and almost legendary Russian military might Georgia is a country of 4 million people who have claimed independence from the Soviet Union many years ago. The odds seem stacked against them.
Contraband Candy has released part 1 of their Tuska Festival program. Here's what they say about it: "We show you Finland’s Tuska Festival in its true beer-and-Jäger-drenched glory, the way a proper Metal festival was meant to be enjoyed. With Korpiklaani’s fantastic song ‘Beer Beer’ as the theme tune, you can just imagine the sort of daft bollocks we got up to this time around!"
In this feature, Johan Hegg of Amon Amarth speaks about their new album, computer games and Viking paraphernalia. René has one too many Jägermeisters before the Primordial interview. Mille of Kreator talks about the pros and cons of Pro-Tools, their up and coming European and US tour in 2009 and their next album. Finally, they sign off this episode by interviewing Lord Of The Rings obsessives, Battlelore.

Archer has performed with some of the biggest names in rock including, Heaven and Hell, Heart and Sevendust. The band is looking forward to sharing the stage at the Sweden Rock Festival (www.swedenrock.com) this summer alongside such metal giants as Judas Priest, Def Leppard, Whitesnake, Poison, RATT, Triumph, Saxon, Disturbed and many more as they return to Europe.
The Santa Cruz, CA-based power trio, who won "Best Local Band 2008" in the Metro Santa Cruz Goldies Awards, takes the stage on Saturday, June 7th, opening for some of the biggest names in the metal music genre. The Sweden Rock Festival is held in Norjeboke, in the tiny village of Norje which is situated in Sölvesborg in the western part of southern Sweden.
Archer’s debut album "Doom$day Profit$" is a "genuine tour-de-force, rich with powerful songs imbued with that essential combination of brain-burrowing melodies, ripping riffs, pulsing basslines, tsunami drums and grab-by-the-throat vocals." The band cites influences that include Ozzy and Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Metallica and other legendary names.
Here is the current lineup for the Sweden Rock Fest 2008, which takes place June 4th - 7th: More...
Irish doom/black lords PRIMORDIAL have issued the following update from singer Alan "Nemtheanga" Averill:
"Forgive me father it's been months since my last confession...
I have been lazy, accept my apologies. It's about time I posted a new message on the site and let you all know what's happening on Planet Satan.
The gigs have now started coming a few every couple of weeks. The Ragnarok Festival in Lichtenfels was a triumph for us, our first show in Germany for the new album and nearly 5,000 people there to give praise to the Old Gods. We also shot a dvd, it remains to be seen whether we can use it but this is something we are going to be looking at over the coming months. Tomahawk festival the following day in Osnabruck was not quite the success of the previous day and we arrived very late due to a day when everything that could go wrong did! The show was excellent and we played possibly the best we have done since the album came out but it seems like quite a few of you thought we had cancelled and headed home after Turisas. Next time
We returned to Greece last weekend and it was indeed glorious. I am going to write a full tour report about the weekends mayhem very soon but suffice is to say we had twice as many people almost then we did when we played for Gathering. Our friends in Mael Mordha went down a storm and both Agnes Vein in Thessalonik and Dead Congregation in Athens were both excellent. More...

MTUK metal 'zine recently conducted an interview with vocalist Alan "Nemtheanga" Averill and guitarist Ciáran MacUiliam of the Irish dark metal masters PRIMORDIAL. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow:
MTUK: One thing that really makes PRIMORDIAL somewhat unique is the fact that you have been playing for such a long time, with (correct me if I'm wrong) no line-up changes. Very few bands can claim such a feat. How do things stay so harmonious within PRIMORDIAL's ranks, I am sure many would like to know the secret of your longevity?
Alan: Well, there have been a few, but not many. I think, well, we have been in this band for 17 years and didn't start it as friends, we became acquaintances, haha. No, we became friends over the years and we didn't approach things as a lot of bands do, like agreeing to rehearse Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and we must book band meetings and you must wear this, blah blah. No rules and no regulations and because we didn't make any money from it — we do a bit now, every now and again, but it's never a big deal or anything like that. We never set out or sat down and asked what are we going to do to sell the most amount of records or anything like that. What happens just happens; we don't have a grand plan. Well, he might (pointing at guitarist Ciáran MacUiliam and laughing). I try and impress this on people but they don't believe me that we don't sit down and go here's the album, here's the plan for it. We are free from a lot of the pressures that other bands face, I can see that some have to tour and have to play festivals and record new albums but we never have had to do all that. It's just kind of Irish, a bare-knuckle kind of attitude. If there is a problem, we can always work it out, there's no primadonnas, you don't take it personally, there's no fragile egos and rock stars in this band.
MTUK: Onto the new album and the obvious question, how would you say the band have evolved between the recording of it and previous album "The Gathering Wilderness"?
Alan: You learn a bit more every time you record, and I think this time we had a more definite idea of what we wanted to do as regards to the gear, the studio that we picked. It helped that Chris and Dave who owned the studio we were recording in were the same age as us.
Ciáran: With this album, we had a week off during the recording so we could listen back to what we had played. We could perhaps think that's gone on a little bit too long we could do something with it. In the past, it has been, "We have two weeks, let's go and record it all the way through." This time we had a little more space.
Alan: It helped not being in Dublin we recorded this in North Wales. You got up in the morning and recorded from noon till 2AM every day. You had your breaks but it was just us free of interruption so we could just focus on what we were doing. It made a huge difference. And as he said, the time between the recording and the editing, overdubs and the mixing was a huge help. We did everything in 13 days, recording, mixing all of it. Well, if BLACK SABBATH can do it in three days, we can at least do it in four times that. I mean, what's the point? There's no point in fucking around. The overall feeling is more important than is that bass drum like this blah, blah, blah? Well, OK, we worked a bit harder with this, this time round but the point being you are not striving for perfection; flaws give character.
MTUK: One thing I would guess that does concern is piracy. What are your opinions on downloading and how would you imagine it affects you? I would have thought most PRIMORDIAL fans would accept nothing less than the finished product and preferably buy the vinyl too.
Alan: There is that perception about me, as Blabbermouth took this quote from me out of context. I was talking about the pros and cons, but they printed just what I said about the cons, so I get all this, if it wasn't for downloading I would never have heard of your band. In the modern age, with MySpace and all that getting your songs out there and downloading is important. I think the concept that if you own a shop and I go in there and take something and don't pay for it and walk out, you are going to go, "You better pay for that." The fact is the record label gives us money, which is like a loan that we have to repay in sales and if everyone just gets it for free, it just doesn't work like that. The thing is I also understand that people who otherwise wouldn't be able to hear the band download it and then go and buy the album. That is what didn't get put across on Blabbermouth.

The Pulse reports that Irish pagan metal outfit PRIMORDIAL will film its January 19, 2008 concert at the 750-capacity Button Factory (formerly Temple Bar Music Centre) in Dublin, Ireland for a possible DVD.
According to promoter Fergal "H" Holmes of D.M.E., the show has been selling strongly, with over half of pre-sale tickets being purchased by fans from outside Ireland. "Swedish, Finnish, German, all around Europe — there's been loads," explained Holmes.
Fans can expect a big production show and the band has ordered in extra lighting for the event.
The European head honcho of the band's record label, Metal Blade, is expected in town, as well as journalists and photographers from some of Europe's top magazines — all flying in for the event, which is arguably the first of such a magnitude to involve a band from the Irish metal scene. "If PRIMORDIAL weren't from Ireland, they are a band I'd still be booking to play here. They're a band that can play a venue the size of the Button Factory," Holmes told The Pulse.
Holmes expects the band to play a set of between 80 and 90 minutes following support slots from Cork's FOR RUIN and reformed Irish doomsters GRAVEYARD DIRT.
