Primordial Frontman Discusses Illegal Downloading

PRIMORDIAL frontman Alan "Nemtheanga" Averill has joined the downloading debate with a no-holds-barred attack on those who illegally take and share MP3s online. Speaking to the UK's Zero Tolerance magazine, he said, "The Internet is a great promotional tool on one hand, and bands can get their music out there so easily. The downside of this is that a whole generation of people feels it's their right to get music for free…We are given money from our label, within which we have to record our album. It's our choice if we want to give them some crap ProTooled bedroom recording, but we don't. We have to repay that money through our sales. If we don't sell anything, we get dropped, we don't have money to record, go on tour et cetera. I have to pay to make PRIMORDIAL's music, so why should someone else get it completely for free? All I can say is for as long as PRIMORDIAL exists we will stand opposed to [downloading] and create real music."

Nemtheanga's comments form part of a special report on downloading in the current issue of Zero Tolerance in which all sides of the debate, voiced by fans, bands and labels alike, air their views: for some downloading spells the end for the music industry as we know, for others it is merely a new chapter with new opportunities. According to a press release, the group's second CD for Metal Blade "is a timeless statement and an ode to their forefathers which lives and breathes the ancient spirit mixed with anger, pain and despair. . . 'To The Nameless Dead' is defiantly at odds with a modern metal scene that often seems to place banality, mediocrity and safety above passion, honesty and truth."

Primordial Finish Recording New Album

Vocalist Nemtheanga of the Irish pagan metal masters PRIMORDIAL has posted the following update on the group's official web site:

"So the new album ['To the Nameless Dead'] bar the mastering is done and dusted. We have to extend our utmost gratitude to Chris Fielding, who performed above and beyond the call of duty with the least amount of fuss any of us have ever encountered in the studio. And I think when the scene hears the rich, powerful, full and old-school sound from the album he is going to become much in demand. And why not?…secondly also gratitude to Dave, who made us feel more then welcome in the valleys and I think added some small part of spiritual presence to proceedings. We will be back.

"So yes, you read it, the album contains seven new tracks and near 55 minutes of new PRIMORDIAL, and yes, we know all bands say this, but I can honestly say we have never been happier with how an album sounds. It is as I stated rich and powerful, it has a real fucking drum sound and you can smell the amps burning into overdrive. And as a singer I can say Chris pushed me further then I've been before with the vocals and stark sound from the last album has been replaced with something far more immediate and effective. And the songs? To our ears at least this album sounds more focused, there is less flab on the songs. They are more direct in their intentions and there is a defiant vibe to the album that I for one did not expect but there it is in all its shameless glory. Fans of the band won't be disappointed that is for sure. The mainstream might take notice or they might not. Who gives a fuck? We certainly don't. Album number six and no compromise…not then, not now, not ever.

"Our show at Party.San Open Air was a solid seven outta ten but I think having been up all night the night previous to be at Dublin airport at 5 am really robbed us of a lot of our punch. Not to mention being picked up at 5 am the following morning to wait 14 hours in the airport. Sometimes in my most zombified moments I wonder is it all worth it, but then again I also think I've seen demons when I've had four hours sleep in three days. Tells its own story, really. Anyway, zombies and demons be damned we will be back. We are confirmed for the Arnhem Metal Meeting in the Netherlands and also the Winterfest in Cork. First time in Arnhem in three years I think and Cork in five or six….

"So the day draws nearer. The artwork is being finalized and the branding irons are in the fire."

"666-Satan’s Soldiers Syndicate" features guest appearances by Proscriptor (ABSU), A.A. Nemtheanga (PRIMORDIAL) and Ashmedi (MELECHESH).

Primordial Prepare For New Album

Irish pagan metallers Primordial are about to enter the studio in Wales to record their new album. Vocalist AA Nemtheanga commented, "The themes have moved on from the last album (they are also becoming more expansive and perhaps less desperate then the last album) and right now I’m beginning to piece together some ideas for the artwork with Paul from Scald who made 'The Gathering Wilderness' look so special. It will look incredible I can guarantee that and will be an absolutely pure artistic statement in this day and age of hollow, plastic meaningless Metal covers. This of course goes for the music as well without saying!

A couple of other Primordial releases are planned. Ireland's Sentinel Records will be releasing the picturedisc of 'The Gathering Wilderness', No Sign Of Life from Finland will be releasing 'Dark Romanticism' and Black Ace from Holland will be releasing 'Storm Before Calm'. Also planned are splits with both Desaster and Rotting Christ.

Nemtheanga will also be releasing a 7" from his new project Plagued, more information can be found at the official website:

Primordial Finish Recording New Album

Irish dark metal masters PRIMORDIAL have finished recordings for their upcoming album. "The Gathering Wilderness" is the band's fifth full length album and their first for Metal Blade Records.

States singer Nemtheanga: "With this album we wanted to challenge ourselves a little more, its very easy to slip into doing what is the easiest or the most uncomfortable and the previous 4 album had been done with Mags of Academy studios fame (MY DYING BRIDE, ANATHEMA, PARADISE LOST, etc.) but for Gathering we wanted to shake things up and try something different. So we got over to Ireland famed engineer Billy Anderson and changed the studio we had become used to using in Ireland. Basically in search of something different."
