Xerxes Posts "Exit 123"

Xerxes has released a new song today called "Exit 123," taken from upcoming record, "Collision Blonde," which is due out on October 21st via No Sleep Records.

Give the song a listen below thanks to Brooklyn Vegan, and you can also pre-order "Collision Blond" from No Sleep Records at this location.

"I cooked at a restaurant in Southern Indiana about 50 hours a week for about a year leading up to the recording of Collision Blonde,” vocalist Calvin Philley tells BrooklynVegan.com. “I got fired during the recording process but that's a different story. 'Exit 123' is the first exit after you cross the bridge over the Ohio River from Louisville to New Albany on I-64 west and the route I took to work. I have severe anxiety about driving and it only gets worse as things pile up in my life with girls, money, work and anything else. Once I just panic attacked all the way to work, thought I was dying and all that. I fantasized about running through the guardrail in my shitty Chevy SUV. That's it. I got myself fired in April and haven't been back to Indiana since."

Additionally, Xerxes and No Sleep Records have announced details of their upcoming CMJ showcase, “No Sleep till CMJ II,” that will serve as the band’s official album release show. Co-presented by BrooklynVegan.com, the free showcase will take place at The Paper Box in Brooklyn, NY on October 21st from 6PM till whenever and will feature headliner John Nolan (Taking Back Sunday) along with ‘68, Chris Farren (Fake Problems), Xerxes, The Felix Culpa, Aviator, Run Forever, Rescuer, In Between, Foreign Tongues and Maps For Travelers.

In addition to their CMJ performance, Xerxes will be performing at Subterranean in Chicago, IL on August 26th where the band will be performing "Collision Blonde" in its entirety.

Aug 26 - Chicago, IL - Subterranean (w/Cut Teeth, Lord Snow, Droughts)

Xerxes To Release New Album

Kentucky’s Xerxes will release new album, "Collision Blonde," on October 21st via No Sleep Records.

Today, the band is streaming the records’s first new track, “Chestnut Street,” which can be heard below thanks to SPIN.com.

Fans can pre-order the album now at iTunes (with an instant download of “Chestnut Street”) and from No Sleep Records here. The label also comments:

"A lot has happened in the last three years since Xerxes' debut LP, Our Home is a Deathbed, both in the contemporary hardcore scene and in the band's personal lives. On Collision Blonde, Calvin Philley vocally delivers feelings on an album he hopes 'touches an aggressive place that I’m not comfortable with. I want it to hurt. I want it to be hard to listen to.' Philley comes across as a frantic mess about the last few years of reaching the heralded young age of 21 in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky.

"The band's sophomore full length is backed by guitarist Will Allard, bassist Joseph Goode and drummer Ben Sears (who also plays alongside Allard in Whips/Chains). With a new line-up and some years removed from their young, violent hardcore days, Collision Blonde's instrumental prowess sounds less like their elder contemporaries and more a cleaner tone reminiscent of Jesus and Mary Chain and The Cure, yet sharp and uneasy in the vein of Bauhaus’ early gothic post-punk edge. Tracks like 'Knife' and the closing 'Nosedive' are aggressively built up into a cathartic release, alluding to Ceremony, Iceage and mewithoutYou at times. More...

Xerxes Enters The Studio

Kentucky bred post-hardcore band Xerxes has officially entered the studio today to record a sophomore album, which will be released later this year via No Sleep Records.

Xerxes is currently recording the new album at Missed Connections studios in the band's hometown of Louisville, KY with Evan Weiss (of Into It. Over It.) producing and the band’s guitarist Will Allard, who’s previously worked in the studio with Coliseum, Whips/Chains and Black God, engineering.

“Evan has been one of our very best friends pretty much since the beginning,” says Calvin Philley. “We met him for a weekend with Former Thieves years ago in the midwest when he was touring with an acoustic guitar and copies of '52 Weeks.' I was just in Chicago for a weekend and over a bottle of cheap whiskey and an impromptu homemade dinner, we were talking music and he volunteered to do this record with us before I even asked. Truth be told, it came together in a way I could never have imagined.” More...
