Hannes Grossmann Premieres "Oceanborn"

We've got a surprise track premiere for you metal fanatics today that will absolutely blow some minds!

German musical virtuoso Hannes Grossmann (Alkaloid, Blotted Science, Hate Eternal, ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist) is wrapping up an IndieGogo campaign at 3:00 AM EST tomorrow (August 9th) for his impending solo album "The Crypts of Sleep." Get in on the action in these last waning hours of the campaign right here.

As the crowd funding campaign draws to a close, Grossmann has teamed up with us to premiere another sneak peak of the upcoming album. Check out our exclusive early stream of "Oceanborn" below, which is the fifth track on "The Crypts Of Sleep." Prepare to be lulled in by some melodic acoustic strumming before getting kicked straight in the teeth by the most technical of death metal!

After successfully crowdsourcing the funds to independently release his debut album "The Radial Covenant" in 2014 (still streaming in full here), Grossmann decided to follow the same approach for much anticipated follow-up, "The Crypts of Sleep."

The new album was entirely written, arranged, self-recorded and self-produced by Grossmann between September 2015 and June 2016 at his own Mordor Sounds studio in Veitsbronn, Germany.

Grossmann plays drums on the entire album and enlisted the the help of numerous all-stars in the extreme music scene including Danny Tunker (Alkaloid, Abhorrent, ex-Aborted) - rhythm and lead guitars, Linus Klausenitzer (Obscura, Alkaloid, Noneuclid) - bass, Morean (Alkaloid, Dark Fortress, Noneuclid) - vocals, Christian Muenzner (Spawn of Possession, ex-Obscura, ex-Necrophagist) - lead guitars, Fountainhead (ex-Obscura, Despotic) - lead guitars, Per Nilsson (Scar Symmetry) - lead guitars, and Erik Rutan (ex-Morbid Angel, Hate Eternal) - lead guitars. Hannes Grossmann Posts Lyric Video

Nuremberg-based drummer Hannes Grossmann (ex-Necrophagist, ex-Obscura, Blotted Science, Alkaloid, and Hate Eternal) premieres a new song entitled "Hail Satan", taken from the upcoming new album "The Crypts of Sleep".

Grossmann's second solo album gets again financed through a crowdfunding campaign which has a goal of 10,000 Euro, and with 13 days left, he’s about 90% of the way home - which means help is still needed. Contributors will of course get something valuable for their support. In addition to the album itself (which will be made available as a digital download and as a CD), the perks for contributions include a t-shirt emblazoned with the album art, various shirt and music combos, drum lessons via Skype, production work on a song, session drumming work for your own music, recording a cover song of your choice, and even a private live show.

For more information about the campaign and to make a contribution, go HERE:

Headline News

Metalunderground.com's Best Of 2014 Awards

What was old is now new again, as much like with Hollywood returning to Star Wars, Jurassic Park, and Terminator, metal heads had a desire for past and present to collide throughout 2014.

This was another year of major reunions and comebacks with the likes of At The Gates, Slipknot, Sanctuary, and Massacre all returning with new material. The long dead Coal Chamber also came back to life, although we won't see an actual release until next year (with varying opinions on to whether that particular resurrection was wanted or needed).

Besides all the blasts from the past, this was a year marked by spectacles in the metal world – some truly unfortunate and others less so. Heavy metal managed to hit the Facebook trending bar and gain exposure to millions when 92 year old actor Christopher Lee released his Metal Knight EP and Christmas single ”Darkest Carols, Faithful Sing.”

Tim Lambesis of As I Lay Dying was finally sentenced after being arrested back in 2013 for attempting to hire a hitman to kill his ex-wife – an act that lead to the creation of Wovenwar, featuring the remaining members of As I Lay Dying as well as a fellow ex-believer from Oh, Sleeper.

This was also the year that included Roadrunner Records botching the release of the first Opeth single from “Pale Communion” and subsequently breaking the Internet. And who could forget Wintersun's infamous rant (perhaps best summarized as “I can't possibly record an album unless its in my own personal studio that someone else has paid for”), which sent a horde of lemming-like fans to send death threats to the Nuclear Blast Facebook page?

Typical metal shenanigans aside, this was actually a solid year for metal overall even past the major reunions. Now moving into 2015, the big question marks are if that Metallica album actually comes out, when Dimmu Borgir is finally going to get around to leaking some new info, and for those of us who have been impatiently waiting since 2012 – when will God Of Atheists finally drop that debut release that we voted most anticipated two years ago?

Before any of those questions come close to getting answers, let's take a look back at what 2014 had to offer for metal fans... More...
