LiveDaily.com reports: Trans-Siberian Orchestra has revealed plans for its eighth holiday tour, and it's the outfit's most ambitious itinerary yet.
The group--which will once again break into two touring units--has lined up an eight-week, 117-show arena tour that will feature two same-day performances in many cities.
According to a press release, tickets for all stops on the tour will go on sale to fan club members on Sept. 12, and will be available to the general public starting Sept. 15. One dollar of every ticket purchased will be donated to local charities in each market.
Organizers promise that new elements will be added to this year's production, "which already includes an orchestral string section, a full rock band, multiple vocalists, a narrator, extensive pyrotectics, a stunning laser- and light show and even a snowfall," the press release said.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra sprouted from a collaboration between producer/songwriter Paul O'Neill and keyboardist Jon Olivia, both of whom were members of the progressive-metal group Savatage. In the mid-'90s, the two wrote some Christmas songs that eventually became Trans-Siberian Orchestra's 1996 rock-opera album, "Christmas Eve & Other Stories."
The group has since released two more holiday sets--1998's "The Christmas Attic" and 2004's "The Lost Christmas Eve"--as well as 2000's non-holiday offering, "Beethoven's Last Night."
In the fall of 2004, the group issued "The Christmas Trilogy," a box set that houses all three of the orchestra's Christmas albums, as well as its 2001 DVD, "The Ghosts of Christmas Eve."

Just For Fun
This video clip (viewable here or here) has been making its way around the internet for a while now, but I thought I'd share it with our readers. It shows home Christmas lights synchronized to flash in time to a musical score, in this case Trans-Siberian Orchestra's "Wizard in Winter" (from The Lost Christmas Eve album). This display was the work of Carson Williams of Mason, Ohio, who spent about three hours sequencing the 88 Light-O-Rama channels that control the 16,000 Christmas lights in his 2004 holiday lighting spectacular. The musical accompaniment is broadcast over a low-power radio station. Snopes' Urban Legends Reference pages says this video is the real thing and not doctored.
After a December 6, 2005 traffic accident in his neighborhood, Carson Williams agreed to indefinitely discontinue his 2005 Christmas light display because it was causing severe traffic congestion problems.
The tie-in to metal, of course, is that Trans-Siberian Orchestra features Savatage (and solo) guitarist Chris Caffrey and former and present touring Testament guitarist Alex Skolnick.
Trans-Siberian Orchestra recently played live on Good Morning America on Wednesday, December 14, and on Live With Regis And Kelly on Thursday, December 15.
I want to wish our readers a safe and happy holidays, merry Christmas or whatever you might celebrate, and a very metal new year!
TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA (featuring TESTAMENT guitarist Alex Skolnick) are scheduled to perform live on Good Morning America on Wednesday, December 14, and on Live With Regis And Kelly on Thursday, December 15. Check your local listings for broadcast times in your area.
A posting on Skolnick's official website states: "FYI: just so everyone knows, this will not be a showcase for Alex (or any other individual musician involved). Don't expect long guitar solos. It will be quick, edited versions of the TSO songs, designed strictly for the purpose of appealing to a morning show TV audience."
Savatage/Trans-Siberian Orchestra guitarist Chris Caffrey is to start recording a new solo album at the end of the year. To be called 'Pins And Needles', it will be be released by Black Lotus Records.
An EP, called "The Mold" taken from the first personal album featuring Chris Caffery (main guitarist of Savatage, master of ceremonies & guitarist of Trans-Siberian Orchestra) as the singer besides his guitars duties is released in Europe through Black Lotus Records. Includes two exclusive non-album tracks. The album features Paul Morris (Rainbow, Doro), Dave Z (Trans-Siberian Orchestra, ZO2, Jeff Plate (Savatage, Trans-Siberian Orchestra).
A world-wide tour will follow with an appearance in Wacken Festival 2005.
