California's Redemption has issued the following update about working on a new album:
"Hello folks, and sorry for the long silence from us. It's been a very busy summer for us away from Redemption, particularly for Ray who as most of you surely know did a reunion tour with the Parallels lineup of Fates Warning to commemorate the 20th anniversary of that fantastic release.
"I (Nick) remain in complete remission with no trace of the disease that I announced publicly about a year ago. I remain on three powerful medications to ensure that the cancer does not return. Of the five original active lesions in my bones, none are active for cancer and one of them has resolved (i.e. been completely repaired with new bone). The other four are in the process of being repaired and that is the next big milestone. Patience is required but I believe they will get there. If that happens, it is a good sign that I am well down the road to being cured (according to the very aggressive doctor to whom I entrust my care). However I must remain on these medicines for two more years. They have many unpleasant side effects but I am resolved to stick with the program and beat 'incurable' blood cancer. Thank you all very much for your prayers, positive vibes and words of support -- they mean a lot. More...
California's Redemption has issued the following statement regarding the passing of Ronnie James Dio today:
"I lost a musical hero today, and the news has hit me harder than I thought it would. Ronnie James Dio was one of the first concerts I saw, and Holy Diver one of the first records I bought once I started liking this thing called 'heavy metal.' Over the years, I have seen him perform more than anyone else (with the exception of my friends in Dream Theater, given our tour together!) and the past several times I've seen him with Black Sabbath have been truly phenomenal.
"I was hoping that Ronnie would be able to perform a guest vocal on a future Redemption CD, and the vocal line I had in mind for him was an expression of triumph over cancer. Obviously, this takes on a horrible irony now. And given my own diagnosis, obviously I'm particularly attuned to what Ronnie endured. My thoughts and prayers go out to Ronnie's family and friends. The world of heavy metal has lost its voice. Rest in peace, Ronnie."
Los Angeles metal act Redemption recently canceled all of their previously scheduled European tour dates due to time constrains of vocalist Ray Alder. The band has now checked in with the following brief update about booking two new shows in California with Primal Fear: "Hello friends! We will be playing two shows in Southern California with Primal Fear -- June 6th in Santa Ana and June 8th in Hollywood. Check our page for more details. Hope to see you there!" You can also check out sample Redemption tracks via the band's official MySpace page.
Los Angeles metal act Redemption has issued the following update about the band canceling their European tour dates:
"Dear friends: I am sorry to say that we are faced with the reality of having to cancel Redemption's intended European shows the summer.
"Part of our unique sound comes from our vocalist, Ray Alder of Fates Warning. As a long-time fan of Fates myself, I have always maintained that Redemption would not interfere with Ray's commitment to Fates, and we have worked very carefully and diligently since Ray joined Redemption in 2005 to ensure that both bands would be able to record and perform without conflict.
"We intended to play several shows in several countries this summer in support of our new CD, Snowfall on Judgment Day. Our management and local promoters in Europe worked hard to line up some great shows that we were very much looking forward to playing. Originally, there was no conflict, even when Fates announced some special shows and festivals to commemorate the 20th anniversary of their fantastic Parallels CD. More...
Guitarist Nick of Los Angeles metal act Redemption has issued the following update regarding his health:
"Hello friends. Thank you very much for all the expressions of concern and well-wishes. It has been a rough year behind me, but I believe I am on the mend. I went for the most aggressive treatment possible with the hopes of killing the disease, and right now there is no trace of the disease left in me. I remain on three kinds of medicine for the next three years, and I will be glad when I don't need to take it -- but in the meantime the hope is it will keep my body toxic enough to kill off any remaining cancer cells.
"As of now, while it's certainly not a guarantee, there is a pretty good chance that I have been cured, so long as I can tolerate this ongoing treatment. Thanks again very much for your concern -- I hope to see many of you soon as we play out in support of Snowfall on Judgment Day."
Redemption has the following upcoming tour dates:
2/4 2010 The Whiskey a Go Go Los Angeles, California
2/5 2010 UB’s Mesa, Arizona
Los Angeles prog metal band REDEMPTION will be playing out in 2010 in support of their recently-released fourth CD, "Snowfall on Judgment Day," on Inside Out Music. The first two headlining shows have been announced for:
February 4th, 2010 – Los Angeles, CA @ The Whiskey
February 5th, 2010 – Mesa, AZ @ UB’s
Multi-instrumentalist / songwriter Nick van Dyk comments, "We're very excited to get back out and play together, including new music from Snowfall. These first shows will be headlining gigs and they may be the only headlining shows we play in the US next year. We have plans for some very cool US support dates later in the year, and hope to announce some additional dates in Europe as well." More...
Los Angeles metallers Redemption have announced the following two upcoming U.S. tour dates:
2/4 2010 The Whiskey a Go Go Los Angeles, California
2/5 2010 TBD Phoenix (Mesa), Arizona
Redemption also commented on the dates:
"Happy Thanksgiving to everybody (apologies to our non-US fans for whom that has no relevance...in which case have a great weekend!) I'm very pleased to report that the first of hopefully a few stretches of live shows both in the US and Europe (if things come together as we hope) are ready to announce. Redemption will headline the world famous Whiskey-a-Gogo on Los Angeles' renowned Sunset Strip on February 4th, 2010. Tickets are on sale now and are a paltry $16! We will be playing in Mesa, a suburb of Phoenix, Arizona, on February 5th, also headlining. Exact venue details will be announced here as soon as they are available.
"We hope to play a third date in February in Northern California, but no date has been set. These will in all likelihood be the only headlining shows we play in the states in 2010, so they will feature our longest set times of any domestic performance next year. We are extremely excited to get out and play for you all, and to showcase some of our new CD, Snowfall on Judgment Day. More news as it becomes available. And thank you, as always, for your interest and support!"
Progressive metal band REDEMPTION is readying their much anticipated fourth full-length release, "Snowfall On Judgment Day," which is set for a September 28th European release date (October 6th in North America) via Inside Out Music.
Formed in Los Angeles, California in 2000 by guitarist/keyboardist/songwriter Nicolas van Dyk, the band features legendary progressive metal vocalist Ray Alder of Fates Warning, as well as guitarist Bernie Versailles (Agent Steel), the rhythm section of Chris Quirarte (drums) and Sean Andrews (bass) and the keyboard talents of Greg Hosharian.
Nicolas van Dyk further comments: "We're very excited for the release of our fourth CD. We've continued to push the envelope of our unique combination of aggression and melody and the result is our heaviest and also our most melodic CD to date. There's a healthy variety in the songwriting, ranging from very heavy tracks to more ‘proggy’ songs, all of which share the melodic focus and emotional urgency that make our signature sound. We've had the opportunity to play a lot more together prior to the recording of Snowfall and I think the band is both organic sounding and tighter than ever. It's a record we're really proud of and we're glad to get it in the hands of our fans."
Throughout spring 2009 the band finalized Snowfall On Judgment Day, which was mixed by well-known producer Tommy Hansen (Helloween, Jorn Lande, Circus Maximus). The album also features James Labrie (Dream Theater) performing a duet guest vocal spot on the song “Another Day Dies.”
Redemption recently posted a new song, "Black and White World" on their MySpace player.

CRUZ DEL SUR MUSIC has announced the release of FOOL'S GAME's debut album, “Reality Divine,” in September 2009.
FOOL’S GAME is the brain-child of guitarist/song-writer MATT CROOKS, pursuing new musical experiences after leaving his previous band DIVISION.
To carry on this project, Crooks recruited some excellent musicians among the ranks of his friends, and so FOOL’S GAME was born with the participation of MATT JOHNSEN (PHARAOH, guitars), LARS F. LARSEN (MANTICORA, vocals), JOHN MACALUSO (STARBREAKER, ex YNGWIE, ex ARK, drums) and NICK VAN DYK (REDEMPTION, keyboards).
The music of FOOL'S GAME is best described as a modern Judas Priest, mixed with an old-fashioned Iced Earth. Add a bit of each of the bands, the members have represented earlier on or are still part of, and you have a dark, thrashy, melodic power metal album.
Here is the "Reality Divine" tracklisting:
When The Beginning Meets The End
Sowing Dead Seeds
As the Field Of Dreams Was Abandoned
The Conqueror Worm
Prelude To The Fair
She Moved Through The Fair
The Wild Swans At Coole
On Endless Planes Of Ignorance

"We are in the finishing touches of the video edit for our upcoming DVD, and in finalizing distribution terms with InsideOut. We're putting together some great bonus materials for it, including a performance of us with our friends in PAGAN'S MIND, a video montage of our tour with DREAM THEATER, and some other goodies. We've also selected a winning entry from our contest where YOU, our fans and friends, pick the name of our DVD. The name is great, and we'll announce it as soon as the 'ink is dry' on our deal with InsideOut."
"I'm pleased to announce that Greg Hosharian, the immensely talented keyboard player who joined us last year for our tour with DREAM THEATER, has joined us full-time. He will be playing keyboards along with me on our next CD, and will be touring, recording and writing with us in the future."
"Lastly, those of you in Southern California on March 15th may be interested in seeing Chris [Quirarte] at his drum clinic at Timbo's drum shop."

A video clip of REDEMPTION — the Los Angeles-based progressive metal band led by guitarist/songwriter Nicolas van Dyk and featuring vocal legend Ray Alder of FATES WARNING — performing the song "Nocturnal" at this year's Headway Festival (held April 7-8 at P60 in Amstelveen, the Netherlands) has been posted online at YouTube.
As previously reported, Sean Entrikin of PRYMARY will fill in for REDEMPTION guitarist/songwriter Nicolas van Dyk for several dates on the latter band's upcoming U.S. tour with DREAM THEATER.
Said Dyk: "For those of you aware of my rather demanding 'day job,' I personally will be making as many of these shows as possible (hopefully the significant majority of them). For the dates where I am unable to make it, we will be fortunate to have the talents of Sean Entrikin of PRYMARY taking my place. The rest of the band will be there at all dates." More...
Canadian progressive death outfit INTO ETERNITY has been confirmed for a month-long summer U.S. tour alongside the legendary DREAM THEATER. The trek, which kicks off in late July, is the opportunity the group has been waiting for since their inception, and a perfect chance to reach a new, open-minded audience that has yet to bear witness to their perfect blend of technicality, memorable songwriting and traditional heavy metal.
Commented Tim Roth (guitars, vocals): "I still can't believe I'm going to be saying this, but we are blown away to be going on tour with DREAM THEATER! There would be no INTO ETERNITY, without DT's influence on our music. The progressive sound that we have comes directly from them. There is no question that they are one of our favorite bands of all time!
"A huge thanks to Mike Portnoy for going to bat and getting us on this tour. It will be interesting to leave the clubs for one tour and get back into large venues again. We hope that the loyal DT fan base will be cool to us as a support act. We also can't wait to meet the REDEMPTION guys. FATES WARNING was also an influence on our sound." More...

The organizers of the ProgPower USA festival have announced a surprise headline set for this year's sold-out edition of the internationally renowned festival. Saturday night (October 6) will now finish with an all-star cover set featuring vocalists from both the showcase and the festival. Each vocalist will be given the opportunity to perform 1-2 cover songs of their choice with the music being provided by the members of PAGAN'S MIND. Additional guests will join them throughout the set.
"The fans have made this festival a success and it's time to give something back to them," said ProgPower USA promoter Glenn Harveston. "I wanted to announce this after the sell-out as a reward instead of in advance as an incentive. It's going to be one hell of a party on stage."
As a result of the additional performance, there has been a major change in the schedule and door times. "I had to shake things up quite a bit to make this work," Harveston explained. "However, the fans can relax knowing that not one band will have a single minute cut from their previously announced set lengths."
