Stryper Seeking Fan Help For 25th Anniversary Tour
Stryper manager Dave Rose has issued the following statement about seeking fan support for upcoming tour dates:
"Stryper friends and fans…
"As you know, we're in the middle of working on the 25th Anniversary Tour. There are a million variables that go in to making a date and city work for a tour. But one of the key elements is promoters and venue owners need to feel that there is interest in the community about Stryper. They need to know that hundreds if not thousands of people will come to a Stryper show, and that you will help make sure this happens.
"I've received several emails from people saying 'I noticed you don't have [my city] on the tour schedule. Will Stryper be coming to [my city]?'
"This is where the fans come in. You can help. In each market there are venues that hold anywhere from 750 to 2000 or more people. They have rock shows. Maybe it's a club. Maybe it's a theater. They're everywhere throughout America. And trust me, we've contacted them. And in many cases they've made offers that we are currently reviewing. More...
Stryper's "Murder By Pride" Gets Euro Release Date
Frontiers Records has signed Christian hard rockers STRYPER for the European release of the band's brand new album "Murder By Pride," due on August 28, 2009. The album is to be released on July 21, 2009 in North America.
Formed in 1983, the band released five studio albums before disbanding in February 1992. Singer Michael Sweet pursued a solo career, while the other members have kept on working together, until Stryper came back in the original line up during 2005, releasing the acclaimed new album entitled "Reborn".
In the past few years singer Michael Sweet started to cooperate with Boston and the result of this is a stunning recording of the classic song "Peace of Mind" on the brand new album "Murder By Pride," which sees none other than Tom Scholz guesting on guitar.
"I got the idea of the title 'Murder By Pride' from seeing pride consume dreams, goals and many times, lives" continues Sweet "We all deal with pride and it can be crippling, so I wanted to write a lyric and a theme that would be a constant reminder of that. This record has been in the works for a long, long time and I can only hope that it was worth the wait!"

Stryper Announces New Album Release Date
Christian heavy metal veterans Stryper has announced that they will release their brand new studio album, "Murder By Pride" on July 21st through Big Tree Records. When speaking about the new album, frontman Michael Sweet said:
"After years of speaking to fans and hearing comments like 'more guitars', 'more solos' and 'more screams', I decided to keep those comments in mind as I wrote each song. It was important to me to try to get back to that early sound of Stryper yet at the same time, to remain relevant today. It's certainly not an easy thing to do but as I listen to Murder By Pride, I think that was accomplished. I got the idea of the title Murder By Pride from seeing pride consume dreams, goals and many times, lives. We all deal with pride and it can be crippling, so I wanted to write a lyric and a theme that would be a constant reminder of that. Stryper Is Reborn
The multi-platinum and Billboard charting rock band Stryper is back and set to release "Reborn" via Big3 Records on August 16, 2005. "Reborn" marks the band's first complete studio release of original material in over a decade, since 1990's "Against The Law," and features 10 original tracks marked by Stryper's trademark blend of melodic vocals, heavy guitar licks and pounding drums, as well a new version of the previously released track "In God We Trust." After writing and recording some songs in April 2004, Michael Sweet approached the band about reuniting and recording the material as a Stryper record. The album was re-recorded in Massachussetts at Blue Jay Studio, Mixed Emotions, and Sweet's home studio. The title track "Reborn" is provocatively dark with catchy lyrics and raw guitar riffs, and will impact radio on June 7th.
Said Stryper frontman Michael Sweet of the new record, "Our fans have said they would like to hear Stryper with more edge, but I didn't want to do something so heavy that it would limit us. We were able to deliver the edge yet still keep the melody and catchy guitar riffs." As for the title "Reborn," Sweet remarks, "I wrote the song "Reborn" before we decided to reunite as a band, and once we came together it was natural to make this notion the essence of the album as we feel we are being reborn. We truly feel like a new band."
The release of "Reborn" begins a remarkable new chapter in Stryper's career. With 8 albums released and more than 8 million albums sold worldwide, the band has been a pioneering force in the Christian metal music scene, and one of the most exciting forces in American rock music. "Reborn" encapsulates the band's signature sound, yet includes a modern twist that will not only speak to Stryper's loyal fan base worldwide, but also to hard rock fans everywhere. On this album particularly, Michael Sweet and the band have pushed the envelope while still understanding the delicate balance between heaviness and melody. "Reborn" was written, produced and arranged by Michael Sweet (with additional production by Kenny Lewis).
Original Stryper members Michael Sweet (lead vocals, guitar), Oz Fox (lead guitar), Robert Sweet (drums) are pleased to announce the addition of Tracy Ferrie (bass) to the band. Stryper will embark on a North American tour in support of the record this fall. Prior to the album release, the band will perform at Spain's big music festival Recinto Ferial Huerto de la Rueda on June 18th, and coming off a smashing live show in Puerto Rico in late 2004, they will grace fans with a return visit on August 20th, just days after the album is released on August 16th. Stryper will be showcasing material from Reborn, as well as performing hits from their incredibly successful run of recordings in the 80s and early 90s. Big3 Records will also release a Stryper DVD, packed with live footage and special features, by the end of the year. The DVD is history in the making. Not only is it the first Stryper DVD to be released, but it is also the first ever live music filmed in Puerto Rico.
VH1's 'Most Metal Moments' Selling Disinformation
Tony Hicks of the Contra Costa Times has issued the following report:
VH1 is selling disinformation again in the name of being cute. This has become a real problem over there, where reaction over a few funny shows is turning the network into the obnoxious kid who won't stop popping off.
I'm writing about, of course, this awful "100 Most Metal Moments", which first showed its ugly head last year. At first, I was repulsed, angered ... and angered some more. I wanted someone at VH1 to pay for their stupidity and thoughtlessness in not only having no idea what metal was, but executing a show that, to some, would certainly be the authoritative voice on the subject. It's like giving Ashlee Simpson a part in a Janis Joplin bio film.
Once I calmed down, I realized this would go away. It wouldn't spread disinformation. VH1's addiction to cuteness, via second-rate celebrities popping off about things they don't understand, would take them in new directions. Or so I thought.
VH1 has decided to replay the show this month, which means that at any given time, a viewer has the chance to hear some so-called expert equate BON JOVI with the term "metal." Now I'm no Count Grishnackh, but in ninth grade I did ride all the way in the closed trunk of a Camaro (there was no room in the back seat) to see BLACK SABBATH at the Cow Palace.
Anyways, here's some of the VH1 tidbits a viewer can get brainwashed into believing are "metal" or even "most metal" if they're not careful: More...
Stryper Makes Peace With Mexican Concert Promoters
STRYPER has made peace with Christian Mexican concert promoters who claimed they unfairly backed out of an event that included NARNIA and others. The band is selling all the proceeds from select merch to help the promoters cover costs.
Stryper's Action Un-Christian?
A few bands and some Mexican Christian concert promoters have launched a website (http://www.stryper-pay-back.tk) calling into question STRYPER's business practices, claiming the band unfairly asked for $100,000 to do a Christian metal show which they originally agreed to do for less. The issue is that the band did not show up for the gig yet still kept over $50,000 according to the website. The event also included the bands MORTIFICATION, NARNIA, SAVIOUR MACHINE. Stryper has issued few statements on the matter and, as of this writing, are only planning on reimbursing the promoters with internet sales of T-shirts that would have been featured at the event.
