The Yellow and Black Attack is back - Stryper is about to embark on a string of select dates worldwide starting May 10th at Tailgaters in Bolingbrook, IL just outside of Chicago. The following press release was issued:
"Stryper is one of the few bands from a decadent era that features 'All Original Members.' They continue to tour the world and produce Billboard-charting albums. Brothers Michael Sweet and Robert Sweet, along with Oz Fox and Timothy Gaines, make up the legendary hard rock quartet.

LA thrashers Anger As Art have completed the recording of their 4th album "Hubris, Inc." Mixing is currently underway, and the band is looking for a late spring/early summer worldwide release.
Says mainman Steve Gaines: "We approach every album like it might be our last, so we put everything we had into it. It is a 14 song epic. 2 of the songs we consider to be bonus tracks – in that they illustrate the history of where Anger As Art came from.
"One is actually a song called 'Speed Kills' that was written for Abattoir in 1984 by Dan Oliverio and me. This was while we were still finishing the Vicious Attack album. Juan Garcia had just left to join Agent Steel, and Dan was a new member. He had the basic riff, and I added music and lyrics to it. Fast forward 28 years, and Mark 'the Shark' Caro (Abattoir lead guitarist) contributed the solo for this song. Nonetheless, this is an Abattoir song performed by all Abattoir members. A nice capstone for a band that had a hand in shaping what thrash became.
"The other one is a song originally done by Pagan War Machine. PWM was a short-lived band featuring myself and Jim Durkin (Dark Angel). It is actually the band that Anger As Art evolved from. Anyway, the song is called 'Rage And Retribution'. Jim was kind enough to offer the guitar solo for the song. In addition to Jim, bass guitar was played by my brother Timothy Gaines from Stryper! This is the first time he and I have ever worked together musically. And… the lead vocal is a trade off between me and Betsy Bitch. While on tour as Bitch last year, Betsy offered 'If you need female vocals, I am your gal.' Seriously, did you ever think you'd see the day when members of Dark Angel, Stryper and Bitch would appear on the same song? Somewhere, Al and Tipper Gore are choking.
"Also, Winterthrall / Semtex Vest/ Evil Dead vocalist Steve Nelson came in and dropped some epic black metal growls and screams on the song 'The Evil You Create.' A complete honor to be able to share this album with such luminaries in the metal world."
American heavy metal veterans Stryper have announced that their next release will consist of re-recorded versions of fourteen of their classics, in addition to three brand new songs entitled, "Bleeding From Inside Out," "Blackened" and "How To Live." A Twitter message from Strper frontman Michael Sweet reads as follows:
"It might be best for me to stop Tweeting about the re-record since it seems to be confusing many people. Here's the facts...
"We're tracking 17 songs - 14 old classics, 3 brand new songs. We're doing the record in phases, a little at a time. It won't be mastered until January, which means it won't be available until sometime after that. January is not the release date.
"We're funding this ourselves so it's a tedious, time consuming task that we have to do in phases due to extensive touring and other things going on between now and the end of the year. So sorry for the confusion and it will be worth the wait!"

Just For Fun
Another Christmas is just around the corner, which means jolly fat men in red suits scaring the bejeesus out of crying children and uncomfortable dinners with family members who don't actually like each other. Christmas isn't just caroling and spiked egg nog though, it's also another opportunity to rock out with some metal steeped in the holiday spirit. We already gave Christmas the metal treatment with a list of the top 10 most metal light shows, as well a new edition of the Rockstar Ramblings describing what aging rockers really want to get under the tree. Slipknot front man Corey Taylor also recently posted a Christmas music video here. To keep December heavy, we've also rounded up a list of the 2010 Christmas and Anti-Christmas rock and metal songs available online.
First off is the 2010 edition of the Misantrof AntiRecords "Holy Fucking AntiChristmas" compilation, which features 15 punk, instrumental, and metal tracks tearing the most commercial holiday of the year a new one. You can stream or download the songs here, and the track listing is as follows: More...
Michael Sweet of Christian act Stryper has checked in with the following statement about the band's upcoming all covers album:
"Hello everyone, long time no type! I've been very busy traveling and moving two homes into one and it's been a very slow process getting unpacked and settled. My apologies for not updating all of you sooner. I try really hard (and enjoy) keeping all of you in the loop on everything that we do.
"I wanted to let all of you know that the concept for 'The Covering' is very powerful and rings true to the power of God's love upon our lives. God's covering is transforming and life changing and we thought it would be very cool to visually portray that through the new artwork. Chris at Pale Horse Design has designed a character that represents the bad or 'the evil' side if you will, in us all. The booklet, (in comic book style) will tell a story of good conquering evil and therefore leading to the transformation of the main character. I received the front cover and I have to tell you that it's modern, powerful, edgy and thought provoking. It is awesome! More...
Christian glam rockers Stryper are hitting the road in support of the new album "Murder By Pride." Vocalist Michael Sweet has now checked in with the following road report:
"We had an eventful day on the 7th of August as we departed for Bolivia - trying to get out of multiple airports to hook up in Miami only to see Oz and Robert asked to exit the plane and then to sit at the gate, on the plane, for two hours. Apparently, some people tried to sneak on the plane and immigration pulled them off and went through the luggage. My first reaction was 'oh man, they arrested Robert and Oz!'
"I at least got a good laugh out of that thought. Although Tim and I were a little stir crazy, we took off on made our way to Bolivia. We landed close to midnight and made it through customs relatively quickly. We had a good amount of fans there to greet us (100+) and they had been waiting until 6 or 7ish... Robert and Oz made it in around 7 am and were a bit tired. I tell you, if anything there is a band that could plays the roles in a new Spinal Tap sequel, we are the guys! Everything that could happen usually happens to us and it's to a point where you just have to laugh. I laughed so hard yesterday my face was sore when I finally went to bed (4 am). We're still paying our dues and maybe, just maybe someday it's pay off and we'll be big 'rock stars' so we can look back on all the looniness and share our unique stories with our grandkids.... They most likely will never believe us!
"Anyway, they expect a very large crowd. We are performing in an outdoor amphitheater that holds 9-10 thousand. Should be an incredible night and a long overdue opportunity to play for our Bolivian fans. I count my blessings and I look forward to what the future will bring. Great things ahead."

Christian rockers Stryper recently revealed that they will be recording an all covers album from secular bands that influenced them. Stryper's Michael Sweet has issued the following statement about the decision to record the album:
"Hey Everyone, it seems that our decision to do a cover record has pleased many people, but has upset a small number of people as well. We've never been a band to go with the flow - we've always set out to do our own thing and to do it according to how we feel led. Some agree, some disagree. It's always been this way. We didn't grow up in the church, we grew up on the streets of LA so our approach to spreading God's word doesn't always line up with how others think it should be done. The bottom line is this - we have not turned our backs on our faith or our beliefs, we just want to loosen up a bit and show our fans how we came to be musically. We we're heavily influenced by a number of bands back in the 70's and early 80's and these bands helped to shape our sound and style. This is the purpose of this record, to show you how we evolved over the years and more important - to have a little fun in the process.
"The band is looking forward to cutting lose a bit and performing the music we grew up with. I'm sorry to hear that there are a few negative Nancy's who believe that we're turning our back on God and our faith. This couldn't be further from the truth. The fact is that we are stronger and even more serious about our faith then we've ever been before. God knows our hearts and our motives. We don't endorse any of these bands or the message they present or their lifestyles. We just want to play some amazing songs and hopefully break down some walls and open some doors along the way. We will continue to honor God in all that we do and say and we can only hope and pray that the few of you who have expressed your disappointment will open your minds and your hearts to what God can do with this record. Let's not limit God...."
The past weekend Axl and the new Guns N Roses rolled into New York for a couple surprise shows. Going on late, and then partying for, as Axl was quoted, “As long as it takes”, it is clear Rose hasn’t changed much from the Use Your Illusion days. However, I was quite shocked to see Axl rocking the Fedora hat with the bandana, a bold move few can pull off. Add in the trademark oversized aviator shades and Axl becomes a first ballot inductee for the Cranium Accessories Hall of Fame, joining Bret Michaels and Hulk Hogan (first time ballot inductees in the bandana category)… More...
Michael Sweet of Christian glam rockers Stryper has issued the following statement about recording an album composed entirely of cover songs:
"Hey Everyone, Just as promised, I wanted to outline some more details regarding the new Stryper record. We grew up listening to many different styles of music and there is a list of bands that influenced us throughout our musical education. Bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Scorpions, Van Halen, UFO, Deep Purple, Led Zeppelin, Queen, Kansas and many others, helped to shape our sound and make us who we are today, musically speaking.
"We grew up on the streets of LA playing every club in town from Gazzari's to The Whisky to The Troubadour to you name it. We played covers from all the bands mentioned above and we shaped our own sound from listening and performing songs from these classic bands.
"We wanted to step outside the box and record a record that shows you, the fans, where we come from - our historical, musical roots so to speak. It's a side to Stryper that no one has really seen or heard before, or at least quite like this. We performed 'On Fire' by Van Halen on a few tours and we also performed 'Breaking The Law' by Priest on this last tour. The response was far beyond our expectations each time we performed these songs. People seemed genuinely surprised to hear Stryper cover these songs and even more surprised to hear Stryper perform these songs relatively well. This will be an opportunity for Robert, Oz, Tim and myself to loosen up and have some fun. More...
Christian rockers Stryper have issued the following update about preparing to record a new album:
"Wow! Typically (and historically) speaking, a new Stryper record comes out every 2-3 years. I'm pleased to announce shocking news - we are starting pre-production at the end of February (of this year) and we begin recording the 2nd week of March (of this year)! We will have a new record completed by early May 2010 and we will be planning for a release later in the year!!!
"I don't want to say too much at this time but I will write an update by next week describing what we're going to do and I can tell you this - it won't be what anyone expects and it will show a completely different side to Stryper that the world has never heard before. Let the controversy begin........... The band is incredibly excited about this project and the label is equally as excited... Great things ahead!"
Christian rockers Stryper have issued the following road report:
"Hello Everyone! Looking back on the past five months I've realized that I've been a little more on the reserved side regarding updates and staying in touch. To be completely honest, it's been nice being more on the reclusive side but for some reason, I felt inclined to write today, 2/1, and I seem to have a lot on my heart so here goes........
"The tour has been a tug of war so to speak - pros and cons, ups and downs and an exhausting run that has certainly taken its toll physically and emotionally. Although we all enjoy our time on stage sharing the music and the message that God has blessed us with, the road life is very difficult at times and can be quite draining. Plain and simple - it can beat you up! We are all feeling the effects. I’m handling the touring life a little easier these days due to eating healthier, staying conditioned and taking care of myself (or at least trying to). God has taken care of us and answered prayer in terms of keeping us healthy and strong throughout the tour. There has been some sickness here and there but for the most part, by comparison, we've been healthier and stronger this time around. More...
