The Rockstar Ramblings: Spring Cleaning

This week a chance to rip through five videos released recently. Surprisingly, this week is low on comedy and one video is very serious. You may even weep. For fans of Fresh Prince of Bel Air this is equal to the episode where Carlton is hooked on speed. I wept for days when Carlton almost died. More...

Stryper Vocalist Releases Single For Charity

Michael Sweet, singer/songwriter/guitarist for Stryper, will release the debut single, "I’m Not Your Suicide," from his upcoming solo album of the same name, which drops on May 6th via Big 3 Records. Michael Sweet has partnered up with ChildHelp for the release of the single and a portion of the proceeds from the sale of ‘I’m Not Your Suicide’ will be donated to ChildHelp. The single is available via iTunes and can be purchased here: at this location. The video for "I’m Not Your Suicide" can be seen below.

Michael Sweet felt compelled to partner with ChildHelp after learning that almost half of all children who have been abused consider suicide. His intention was for the heartfelt lyrics to connect with these kids and hopefully offer some peace to those in need. Bringing added attention to the ChildHelp National Child Abuse Hotline, which offers an immediate 24/7 professional crisis counselor on call, and championing the ChildHelp Speak Up Be Safe in schools, Michael Sweet is sharing a message of crisis intervention and prevention education. "I'm Not Your Suicide" is a song with a message of hope and through the partnership with ChildHelp, illustrate to children a positive alternative through the lyrics of the song. More...

Stryper Cancels Shows Due To "Act Of God"

Stryper has issued the following statement about canceling the band's previously scheduled shows for tonight (January 3rd) and tomorrow:

"To all of our devoted fans. Sadly we will not be able to perform the scheduled Stryper shows on 1/3 (Mohegan) and 1/4 (NYC/Stage48) due to circumstances out of our control. We were well aware of the storm that was forecast to hit the east coast and we had everyone board planes to make an attempt to get here as originally planned.

"Our crew and Tim made it to Rhode Island, but unfortunately Oz and Robert got stuck in Chicago with no way out. They have been at the airport all night and were not even able to get a hotel room for the night. We have tried multiple times to get them on another plane in order to move forward regarding the two shows but we keep getting bad news after bad news.

"We've explored everything within our power to make this happen, but at this point it's truly an 'act of God' and it's beyond our control. We regret to inform you all that we are left with no other choice but to reschedule the two shows for another date/time to be announced in the near future. Please know that we never want to cancel any show and it saddens us to be forced to do so. We love you guys and we look forward to getting to play for you all soon.

"God bless you and stay safe." More...

"I want to thank you all for taking the journey with me over the past year and I'm asking that you fasten your seat belts for the year to come - it's going to be quite a ride! May God Bless you all and I wish you a Happy, healthy and prosperous New Year." More...

Sunday Old School: Stryper

Stryper is a Christian glam metal band that wears their religion on their sleeves (via stripes). The mid eighties were good for Stryper, enjoying platinum and gold record sales as well as mainstream acceptance as a Christian band. After initial success their hair also got bigger. The “big hair” led to a decrease in record sales, proving that God does have a sense of humor. More...

Stryper Details New Studio Album

Christian hard rock act Stryper announced that the new studio release "No More Hell To Pay" will be released on November 5th in North America via Frontiers Records. It will be available in both standard CD and deluxe digipak formats (featuring exclusive video content). The album was produced by frontman/guitarist Michael Sweet and the album features the strongest and heaviest material offered by the band.

Sweet also commented, "'No More Hell to Pay' marks our 30 year anniversary and what a journey it has been! It's our eleventh studio release since our first album in 1984 ('The Yellow & Black Attack') and it's quite possibly our best record to date. Why? It's everything you might expect from a Stryper record - high octane vocals, layered vocal harmonies, guitar solos galore, driving drums and bass and an energy that hasn't been achieved since our glory days. The message is equally as powerful as it offers hope and inspiration to anyone listening. If you're a Stryper fan, it'll make you proud to be one. If you're not, listen with caution as you may actually become one. We've been waving the striped flag for 30 years and we're proud to say that it's an honor to still be making music with you and for you. The best is yet to come and it's coming November 5th!"

The track listing for the new release is:

1. Revelation
2. No More Hell To Pay
3. Saved By Love
4. Jesus Is Alright

The Rockstar Ramblings: Lust, Glitter, and God

Christwire Covers The Maryland Deathfest

Christwire, a satirical site mimicking ultra-conservative Christian news outlets such as the Christian Post, has posted a show report online for the recent 2012 edition of the Maryland Death Fest titled "Exposed: Satanic Black Necrometal Posing A Grave Danger To Our Children". Enjoy some excerpts from a "good Christian's" breakdown of the festival below:

For four days in May, over Memorial Day weekend, hordes of Devil worshiping, drug crazed evildoers descended upon the unsuspecting city of Baltimore to participate in a bacchanalia of promiscuous sex, drugs, Satanic music, vandalism, arson, and enough horrid perversions in the eyes of the Lord to fill a entire library full of St. Peter’s books. This celebration of death and all that is evil made no bones about it’s purpose, titling itself “Maryland DEATHFEST”!

In order to discretely blend in so as not to arouse suspicion and suffer gruesome tortures at the hands of these heathen barbarians I donned the obligatory uniform of these so called “Metalheads”; A black t-shirt with Satanic imagery and symbols, a pair of torn, filthy jeans and faux snakeskin cowboy boots. Not able to bring myself to blaspheme the Lord, I donned a Stryper shirt which had not been washed anytime in the last decade, an adequate compromise. My hair is washed and clean cut, so I donned a long hair wig that had been soaked in beer and rubbed into the dirt to complete my disguise.

Surrounding the festival grounds were two electrified hurricane fences topped with razor wire. The outer perimeter was ringed by a moat filled with pig’s blood swimming with venomous Nepalese Deathshead Adders, while the inner perimeter was patrolled by packs of rabid, black dire wolves and syphilitic pit bulls. The entrance was staffed primarily by Hell’s Angels motorcycle gang members armed with chains, zip guns and steel pipes who took every opportunity to inappropriately grope females and rough up the males, confiscating illegal drugs from would be entrants (which I witnessed them snorting behind the port-a-potties later that day).

After passing through the gauntlet of brutality at the entrance to the festival, I witnessed many ghastly sights that will haunt me for all the days of my life. I will attempt to adequately describe them here, but some of these monstrosities are so shocking and perverse that they should not even be written down, much less read by good Christian men and women (and most definitely not children!)
