Spinefarm Records has signed Finnish melodeath crew Pain Confessor. After releasing three albums, Pain Confessor has been working on material for a new album since last year. During the coming summer Pain Cofressor will lock itself into a studio and the fourth, as-yet-untitled, installment of the band's saga is to be released towards the end of 2012.
Formed back in 2002 Pain Confessor released the debut album ”Turmoil” in 2004. The sophomore ”Fearrage” saw the light of day two years later and the third, ”Purgatory of the Second Sun” in 2007. After a few changes in the lineup since the latest album the band is whole again. Pain Confessor comments on the new album:
“Three down, fourth to go. Finally, someone utters. But what’s the deal with the new full length? We are rowing a truly grim river. The renewed lineup boasts with vigor to go through a stone wall, the material heavy as a murderer’s burden.
"Is it better than Turmoil? No, it is a completely different record and stands on its own upon fresh soil. The crew’s newest inmates bring along a whole new bag of tricks with which to drill deeper into the hidden reaches of human mind with newborn fervor. Spinefarm is the key that unlocks these gargantuan shackles. Unleash the beast!"
Finnish death metal band Pain Confessor has issued the following statement about their new guitar player:
"AND THE NEW GUITARIST IS..........(drum rolls, eye rolls, spring rolls)
Mr. Tommi Kurki has been around since the first gigs of Pain Confessor. In fact, he has been our mainstay Sound Engineer for pretty much all these years. This made the transition from behind the mixer to the frontlines an easy one, and very natural.
He Wasn't Born Yesterday as a guitarist either. Tommi "Tommi Kurki" Kurki, or The Bullfinch as we like to call him, played guitar in the old Finnish progressive metal band Sancnity along with Pain Confessor producer Janne Saksa. Sancnity's swansong was their excellent early 90's album "Dew". More...
Finnish metallers PAIN CONFESSOR have posted their new single, "Ne Plus Ultra", on their MySpace page. The song comes off the group's third album, "Purgatory of the Second Sun", which is scheduled for release in Finland on March 14. The single will precede the album in February. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Mercenaries", "Last of Forever", "Dreamcrusher", "Second Sun", "My Last Words", "End", and "Without Redemption/Without Remorse".
"Purgatory of the Second Sun" was recorded at Fantom studio and is described by the band as "raw and furious. This album has nine songs from which 80% is pretty much all out war and the rest 20% is heavy, like walking to the gallows."
A video clip of Finnish metallers PAIN CONFESSOR performing the song "Just Names Remain" live at the Dressing Room in Tokyo, Japan has been posted online at this location.
Finnish metallers PAIN CONFESSOR have posted another recent rehearsal video clip at this location.
Two recently recorded demo tracks from PAIN CONFESSOR — "Without Redemption/Without Remorse" and "Ne Plus Ultra" — are available at this location. The band made an eight-song pre-production recording on November 17-19 in preparation for its upcoming third album, "Purgatory of the Second Sun", which the group plans to record beginning mid-December at Fantom Studio with producer Samu Oittinen. Other songtitles set to appear on the CD include "Mercenaries", "Last of Forever", "Dreamcrusher", "Second Sun", "My Last Words" and "End". According to a posting on the group's web site, "the forthcoming album will be the heaviest and most brutal PAIN CONFESSOR album yet." An early March release is expected. A single will precede the album in February.
Tuska Open Air Metal Festival has added more international and Finnish acts to the 2005 roster. The line-up is almost complete with only 1 more artist to be added for Saturday afternoon as well as the winner from the band contest at Rotonde-Festival, France, which is to be held later this spring. This year's Tuska-Festival is more international than ever, with nearly half of the artists coming from abroad. The evening clubs will most likely see some international action as well.
New additions in Finnish professionalism will be represented by Apocalyptica, whose cello metal is witnessed way too rarely on their native soil. Apocalytica just recently supported Rammstein on their European tour and appeared stateside on a few selected dates.
German precision and universal greatness is brought to you by the mighty Gamma Ray. The band last appeared on the bill at Tuska 2000 and have since built their fanbase by selling out club shows on a regular basis.
Other additions include up-and-coming death metallers Amoral, Finnish-singing Stam1na and Viikate, as well as Callisto who are about to embark on a European tour in a few weeks.
The search continues for one more, either domestic or foreign artist.
Ticket sales for Tuska 2005 start on Friday April 1st. Three-day ticketcosts 67 euro, one-day ticket 32 euro. Go to www.lippupalvelu.fi to purchase tickets.
Current Tuska 2005 line-up reads as follows: More...

Finnish metallers Pain Confessorhave uploaded their video for the track "Lake of Regret" at this location.
The "Lake of Regret" clip was directed by Vesa Vainio of Vasara Productions, who have previously worked with Mokoma, "one of the best thrashy metal acts hailing from Finland," according to a posting on Pain Confessor's web site.
"Lake of Regret" comes off Pain Confessor's debut album, "Turmoil", available now through Megamania Records.
Pain Confessor, who feature former members of such groups as A.R.G., Jane Doe 69 and Nonsliplevel, play "melodic metal with clean and death metal vocals mixing various metal sub-genre influences into their unique style," according to an official press release. "Lots of guitar and vocal harmonies intertwine with atmospheric keyboards and tight rhythms. This is thrashy metal but there are no limits to the band's musical expression and imagination."
Finland's Pain Confessor have posted this message on their official website:
One hellish day of moshing and ravaging a woman in cold water is now behind us, sun has set and only thing left in our minds now is exitement. We are exited to see the finished video because today certainly let us believe there is some pretty metallish stuff coming out from all this.
We were fortunate to get such a great production crew as Vesa Vainio's Vasara Productions that has also done a video for Mokoma, one of the best thrashy metal acts hailing from Finland.
The rest of the week sees Vesa and his crew to patch up the video material and our guests at the Album Release Party @ Metropol, HML, shall see the premiere of the, hopefully, finished music video.
"Lake of Regret" comes off the band's debut album, "Turmoil," which is being released today (Sept. 8) through Megamania Records. You can download the track "Soul Eraser" from the album here (Mp3 - 8.8 MB).
