Ty Arthur Releasing New Grimdark Novel

Following his debut sci-fi novella “Empty” from 2016, heavy metal scribe Ty Arthur (Metalunderground.com's very own xFiruath) returns with new full-length horror novel “Light Dawning.” Pivoting away from the emptiness of space, the book dives headlong into the waters of fantasy, but with a seriously grimdark twist.

This next foray into the bleaker corners of human existence is officially slated for release on Friday, May 26th, 2017. Kindle digital pre-orders are now online here, with physical editions to follow shortly.

Like its predecessor, the creation of “Light Dawning” was driven forward by the power of music, with special thanks in particular due to U.K. avant-garde black metal group Code, Norwegian musical enigma Ihsahn, and Chilean prog rock group Bauda. To get an advance preview of the themes and tone of the novel, a music playlist matching several scenes can be heard via Spotify here or in the player below.

Once known as the City on the Hill and revered far and wide for its independence and boundless opportunity, Cestia has become home only to the damned. Surviving under the brutal occupation of a southern empire for three long years, the oppressed populace has lost hope of liberation, turning instead towards an increasingly desperate rebellion willing to commit any atrocity for a chance at freedom.

As total war approaches, four lost souls trapped behind Cestia's walls are on a collision course with fate, destined to either save the city or see it utterly destroyed while calling on forces beyond mankind's comprehension. For good or ill, the light of a new day is about to dawn. More...

”Forevermore is a track that showcases both the metal and the more bombastic A.O.R. influences of Nightingale. It’s a good summary of what to expect from the album…and then some! The lyrics tell the story of Jim Jones and The People's Temple seen from the perspective of a devoted follower of the cult.”

Nightingale Announces New Album

Sweden's Nightingale is back in the spotlight with a long overdue 7th studio album. Entitled "Retribution," the follow-up to 2007's "White Darkness" will be released via the band's new worldwide label InsideOutMusic on January 27th, 2015 in North America.

Nightingale was established by musical multi-talent and producer Dan Swanö (Edge Of Sanity / Witherscape) almost 20 years ago and in the good tradition of the band -- which is completed by Dan's brother Dag Swanö (guitars, keyboards), Erik Oskarsson (bass) and Tom Björn (drums) -- the new album once again showcases a timeless hybrid of different musical styles. From atmospheric metal to catchy AOR and melodic prog, "Retribution" offers an amazingly broad variety of moods and always tuneful songwriting skills.

Dan Swanö, who contributes vocals, guitars and keyboards, commented: "We started putting material together for this album around 2008, but out of all those songs only two made it to the album. I felt that, unless it is the best possible Nightingale album, where every song on the album easily could replace any song from our previous albums, there was no point in making a new album at all.

"During the writing of the Witherscape debut album, I wrote a lot of stuff that would work better on a Nightingale album, and before I knew it, I had the skeleton for a lot of potentially awesome Nightingale songs! It was important that the new material had the vibe of the older albums, yet with a better production and performance.

"I am very confident that all the Nightingale fans will love 'Retribution' since I made sure I felt the same rush inside me when I listened to the tracks that I did upon listening to the finished version of our most famous tracks from the past!"

The track listing is as follows:

1. On Stolen Wings
2. Lucifer's Lament
3. Chasing The Storm Away
4. Warriors Of The Dawn
5. Forevermore
6. Divided I Fall
7. The Voyage Of Endurance
8. 27 (Curse Or Coincidence?)
9. The Maze
10. Echoes Of A Dream More...

Nightingale Reveal New Album Details

NIGHTINGALE, the Swedish band featuring acclaimed musician/producer Dan Swanö and his brother Dag, will release its sixth album, "White Darkness", on June 4 via Black Mark.

The album was recorded at a big theater, with many of the songs having been tracked as live as can be in the studio, giving them that little extra spark of life often missing in modern productions.

The term "White Darkness" is an expression that lead singer and lyricist Dan Swanö used to describe the state of mind he was in during the aftermath of his divorce. Most of his lyrics on this album are diaries from months of soul searching. During this dark period Dan did not write much music, so his older brother Dag Swanö (formerly known as Tom Nouga) stepped in, armed to his teeth with killer songs from the past and the present.
