Author Seeking Crowd Funds For Download Fest Book

Author Ian Carroll has launched a crowd funding campaign to release a book about the many bands he has interviewed at the Download festival.

Full details on the campaign and perks for contributing can be found at Kickstarter here. Carroll comments:

"In 2005 I started to write the book of the Donington & Download Festival (including Monsters Of Rock at Milton Keynes).

"I was coming to the end of completing the Official Book of the Reading Festival and saw Donington as the second release in my 'Festival Series' of books, covering my favourite festivals that I attend every year - Donington/Download Festival is the longest running rock festival in the UK, covering all genres from rock to classic rock, Emo to Screamo, Punk to Hardcore, Black Metal to Death Metal and every style in between, plus in the last 5 years the addition of drum & bass and dance - the festival that caters for all.

"I have traveled the length and breadth of England interviewing bands and artists for the book and have had some great times in amongst the hard work. I've also had many phone interviews from Metallica to Testament, Lordi to Staind, Alice Cooper to Queensrÿche and also what was possibly one of the legend Ronnie James Dio's last interviews, prior to cancelling his final UK tour." Keyboardist Awa Splits With Lordi

Lordi’s longtime keyboardist Awa has decided to leave the band. Awa's final performance with be at Simerock in Rovaniemi, Finland on August 11, 2012 when Lordi celebrates the band’s 10th Anniversary. Awa joined the band in 2005 and first appeared on the 2006 release "The Arockalypse."

The new keyboards, yet unnamed, has already been chosen and will play on the band’s next studio album, planned for early 2013. The characters and character names of the new keyboardist and new drummer will be revealed together with new masks and outfits before the release of the band’s next studio album.

Awa commented on her departure:

"Playing in the band has been an incredible experience and clearly one of the best times in my life. I have always been very fond of Lordi, its music and image, and will surely be following news about it closely. The band and the crew were and will always be a second family to me and I will be missing them and our fans greatly. However, seven years in the band has been physically and emotionally very demanding. You have to be in a band like this 100 %. If you are not able to do that anymore, you have to let go and give space for something new.

"I want to emphasize that I am not going to leave music or making music, because music is the most important thing to me in life. I am on a creative break now, but have several new ideas already. You will hear about them if and when the time is good. I also believe that I can still be seen behind the keyboards some day."

Mr. Lordi commented:

"We have been discussing this behind the scenes for quite some time, but nobody knew that this year would be this kind of a year of changes for Lordi. Of course you always believe and wish your current line-up would be permanent and final, but these are not issues of faith. Situations change, things happen and plans are renewed. All the rest of us in the band wanted her to go on with us, but we also understand her decision and respect that. We know that this decision was not easy for her either. It took a long time to come to this conclusion.

"We agreed already earlier, that she will not participate our next album studio sessions. In this case she would have had to hang out with us for the next couple of years. Naturally it would have not been fair to her, to the band or to our fans."

Lordi Announces New Drummer To Replace Otus

Finnish band Lordi announced that they have found a new drummer following the tragic loss of Otus a/k/a Tonmi Lillman in February. The new member's real and fictional identity have not yet been revealed. The following announcement was posted on the band's official website:

Lordi has got a new drummer. His character’s name will not be revealed yet and he will be simply called ”the drummer” for now. The mask and the costume are kept to the minimum, but enough to fit him visually in to the band for the upcoming shows.

'We don´t want to introduce a new character yet, because we feel it is still way too close to the time when our drummer Otus passed away. Making any kind of fuss about a new member would simply be too disrespectful. However, we need a drummer in order to play. And since we are Lordi, no-one will ever perform in the band as himself, without a character,' Mr. Lordi states.

'So, the new drummer does have a mask and his costume is more than a t-shirt and jeans, but this is not the outfit of the actual character yet. We could say he is in disguise. The name and the look of the character will be revealed at the same time when the whole band comes out with new costumes and masks. This happens traditionally before a new album comes out,' Mr. Lordi continues.

There are no official photos of the new drummer yet and it also looks like there will not be any before the character will be officially introduced. The new drummer can be seen for the first time in Italy, at Metalitalia.com festival on May 5th, 2012.

Metal Videos To Get You In The Halloween Mood 4

All Hallow’s Eve has finally arrived and it’s just about time to get the debauchery going full swing. Whether you’re getting the altar set up for a black mass or you just plan on drinking until werewolves and vampires seem like legitimate concerns, there’s a host of metal videos to help get the evening started right.

Earlier this month we showcased horror themed videos that went way over the top, focused on the devil and his minions, and then dipped into the atmopsheric and creepy videos. Now that Halloween is here we’ll finish off with monsters, serial killers, and even a few bonus clips.

Bleeding Through – “Kill To Believe”

The “Kill To Believe” video is like its own little mini redneck hillbilly horror movie. If you’ve seen all the “Wrong Turn” and “Texas Chainsaw Massacre” movies a couple dozen times, this one’s for you.

Lordi Splits With Drummer

Lordi has issued the following announcement about splitting with drummer Kita:

"It is our unfortunate task to inform that Kita is no longer a member of Lordi. Kita has made a decision to pursue his own career publicly as himself, without his alter ego Kita. This is in direct conflict with one of the cornerstones of Lordi’s image. Therefore it is not possible for him to continue as a member of the band anymore.

"Lordi will continue as always, masked and costumed, consisting of monster personas. Also, the upcoming tour will happen as planned. We thank Kita for the years he has been an important part of the band and our successes and wish him all the best in his future."
