Stratovarius To Work On New Album in 2010
Stratovarius, who recently confirmed their appearance at Wacken 2010, will continue their European tour starting in January. The band also plans to start work on a new album in 2010. Here is a news update from the band:
"We're still in the middle of the Polaris world tour, but we do have a bit of news.
"The European summer festivals earlier this year were nice and relaxing as always, and then we embarked on a long three-month leg which covered the Far East, North and South America, and Finland. One highlight was Beijing, a place none of us in the band had played or visited before.
"Some of Lauri's video blogs from the past year are at http://www.stratovarius.com/tour.
"After a break for the holidays, the caravan will roll on in 2010, and we will do a long tour of Europe in January and February (see dates below). You can always check an up-to-date list of any upcoming dates at this address: http://www.stratovarius.com/tour.
"We have some more good news: we just confirmed to play Wacken in August 2010, which is always great fun. It's the biggest metal festival in the world, and has a great crowd, but also since there are so many bands there, you can always reconnect with many old friends backstage and in the VIP bar. This gig will mark the end of the "Polaris" would tour which spanned four continents with close to a hundred gigs. Wacken's website is at http://www.wacken.com/.
"We have finally made available the remaining stock some of the band's older merch. It's available for sale now at the 'treasure chest' on Stratovarius' official webshop at Fanzone. Some of these classic items are pretty unlikely that we will reprint, ever. The information about the old "treasure chest' merch you can find here (pdf). The main webshop with all the stock you can find at this address: http://www.fanzone.fi/stratovarius/.
"We have also confirmed an appearance on the '70,000 tons of metal' Caribbean cruise in late January, 2011. You can find details about this very nice cruise here: http://www.70000tons.com.
"We saved the best piece of good news for last: next year we will start work on a new full-length record, a follow-up to 2009's 'Polaris.'
"Best regards, happy holidays and have a great new 2010!"
Remaining confirmed tour dates are as follows: More...

Timo Tolkki Gives Personal/Band Update
Timo Tollki, formerly of Stratovarius and currently with Revolution Renaissance and the more recent Project Strato, has issued an updates on a number of things from his personal projects to the status of Revolution Renaissance:
"Sorry for the lack of updates. I have been really busy working hard with different things and projects. Some mixes for my mixing service, composing songs for Project Strato, one Finnish female artist and producing a record for a really cool new Goldenworks artist.
"I've been also writing my book and it is almost finished. It is sort of an autobiography covering the years 1975-2009. It is called: "Intermission - Entr'acte". Some kind and beautiful people are helping me with this by editing and translating. For free. That is truly amazing.
It will come out in English, Finnish, Portugese and Spanish. I try to make the price as low as possible. You will be able to order it from a certain webshop (I'm negotiating about it at the moment) and from some bookstores and record shops. I hope to get it out early September.
"Things don't look too good for RR unfortunately. We have tried but we have no gigs confirmed and actually we don't even have a record deal at the moment. Anyway, we have been working on a new website at least and it should be up in some time soon. There is an intropage already at www.revolution-renaissance.com if you want to have a look. For those who have speakers in their computers, the intropage has a little surprise.
We had to close down the forum to weed out the spam bots and fill in some security holes. This might take some time. Sorry for that.
"When we have something to tell about the possible gigs and new recordings, we will of course inform you right away."
Cain's Offering Signs To Frontiers Records
Frontiers Records has announced the signing of Cain's Offering for their debut album “Gather the Faithful,” to be released on August 28th in Europe and September 11th in the USA.
The band is the new artistic creation of Jani Liimatainen, the guitarist/songwriter formerly of Sonata Arctica and Altaria. In 2007 Jani parted ways with Finnish power metal act Sonata Arctica, a band he has contributed to found in 1996 and to which he devoted his full time and energy for more than 10 years.
Following his departure from one of Finland's biggest music exports in recent years, all eyes were set upon his newest creation: Cain's Offering. “After parting ways with Sonata Arctica, I took 'a leave of absence' from the metal circles, feeling that I had not much to offer at the time and that I needed a break to charge my batteries” states Liimatainen. “After a year or so the hunger to play metal returned with a vengeance, and so I decided to put together a new group of my own. I gave a call to a few friends, and voila: Cain's Offering! Cain’s Offering is a collaboration of a world-class musicians and one of the best singers in the world of Heavy Metal. All of these guys are handpicked from the very best the Finnish metal scene has to offer and I’m very proud to have them join me in this band.”
Joining Jani are vocalist Timo Kotipelto (Stratovarius, Kotipelto), keyboardist Mikko Harkin (Solution.45, Mehida, ex-Sonata Arctica, ex-Wingdom, ex-Kenziner), bassist Jukka Koskinen (Norther, Wintersun) and drummer Jani "Hurtsi" Hurula (Paul Di'Anno).
Drawing its musical influence from both the classic hard rock scene, the fast-paced European power metal and a very modern heavy metal sound, Cain's Offering is a perfect example of today's living and breathing Finnish music scene. “To me Cain's Offering is a perfect combination of the things I value in music: beautiful melodies, emotions, top-notch musicianship and some kick-ass Metal! Basically it represents music as I like to hear it; every element is in its rightful place. I feel that what we came up with has all the traditional values, that so many metal-heads, myself included, hold so dear, but with a fresh new twist to it” says Jani. “Lyrically the songs deal with very basic, almost primal emotions and subjects most people will be able to relate to … and … there are absolutely no dragons allowed :)”
“Gather The Faithful” includes the following songs:
My Queen Of Winter
More Than Friends
Oceans Of Regret
Gather The Faithful
Into The Blue
Dawn Of Solace
Thorn In My Side
Morpheus In A Masquerade
Stolen Waters
Elegantly Broken
Ravage To Play With Stratovarious
Boston thrashers, Ravage, have issued the following update regarding the details of their upcoming North American tour:
"So the tour schedule seems to be coming together slowly but... maybe surely. We've got a lot of good potential shows put together including a possible gig with the legendary Vicious Rumors, and confirmed shows with ROSS THE BOSS (Guitarist of Manowar and The Dictators) and STRATOVARIUS. We seem to be having an easier time putting together shows on the west coast for some reason - so if you have some contacts in the East and south, particularly florida and the carolina's - and Canada - let me know. I've had a devil of a time getting any Canadian gigs so far." More...

Project Strato To Release Early Stratovarius Demo
Project Strato, the band featuring ex-Stratovarius members, has issued the following statement about releasing an early Stratovarius demo:
"This is really cool, we just found a person who has a demotape of the very early Stratovarius line-up when Tuomo was still handling the vocals as well. This is the very same tape that I rehearsed the songs from when I joined the band. I think it is from 1983. We will try to transfer the reels to digital form and see what we do with them. But this got to be the very earliest material Stratovarius has ever recorded.
"Cheers, Timo"
