"We will be entering the studio in April with hopes to release the album by this coming Fall. The new material is darker, stranger, and bleaker than Tempest, and the artwork will feature another masterful painting courtesy of Italian madman, Paolo Girardi."

Oakland-based harbingers Lycus will unleash the ominous curse of their debut LP "Tempest" next week on July 9th via 20 Buck Spin. The full album is now available for streaming at CVLT Nation here or in the player below. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"With a honed, masterful approach to their songwriting and delivery, Lycus seemingly adds new vitality to the funeral doom genre with Tempest, the album’s three expansive tracks consuming nearly forty-two minutes of your soul with each listen.
"Recorded and mixed at hometown Earhammer Studios with Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Pallbearer, Samothrace, High On Fire), the album is literally drowning in an ocean-sized pool of incredibly descriptive accolades from media outlets.
"While references to Mournful Congregation, Ahab, Thergothon, Noothgrush and My Dying Bride are inevitable, Lycus deliver both caustic and clean riffs and interject multiple vocal styles and additional instrumentation which elevate the material on Tempest to their own place among the scene’s veterans and forerunners." As "Tempest," the debut LP from Bay Area funeral doom unit Lycus nears release this July 9th via Washington-based 20 Buck Spin, today the first single from the release is available. Check out "Coma Burn" via Pitchfork.com here. The following press release was also issued about the album:
"Having existed since 2008 in some form or another, Lyrucsentered hometown Earhammer Studios with Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Asunder, Pallbearer, Vastum, Samothrace, High On Fire), who captured and mixed the band’s immense Tempest LP. A mature, diverse and utterly monumental album, the three massive hymns on Tempest range between nine-and-a-half minutes to over twenty.
"The canvas of this masterwork is classic funeral doom in the territory of Mournful Congregation, Asunder and My Dying Bride, yet the template is varied as Lycus' palette includes shades of hysteric black metal, old-school death doom pummeling, and even a bit of pull from noise/drone realms. Featuring an incredible oil painting by the Italian madman Paolo Girardi as cover art and a regal layout by Kevin Gan Yuen of Sutekh Hexen (who also contributes musically to the album’s closing moments), Tempest is the most promising debut of 2013 in the doom genre.
"Lycus is planning U.S. Summer tour actions across the West Coast with dates to be announced shortly, and will traverse the continent to wash away the East Coast in the Autumn months."
The "Tempest" track listing is:
1. Coma Burn
20 Buck Spin this week verifies the pending release of the debut album from Bay Area doom crew Lycus on July 9th, 2013. The "Tempest" track listing is:

The following press release was also issued about the band:
"Having existed since 2008 in some form or another, Lycus relocated to Oakland from Sacramento and recorded/released their Demo MMXI two years ago. The brooding, quality material of the demo not only saw eventual cassette release by Graceless Recordings (run by Mike Meacham of LOSS) and a vinyl release on San Francisco-based Flenser Records, but it immediately caught the attention of Olympia-based 20 Buck Spin -- the label having originated in the East Bay Area and continually having a soft spot for bands of the region -- who brought them onto the label’s roster for the release of their debut album.
"Late in 2012, Lycus entered hometown Earhammer Studios with Greg Wilkinson (Brainoil, Asunder, Pallbearer, Vastum, Samothrace, High On Fire), who captured and mixed the band’s immense Tempest LP.
