The blog Doomed & Stoned has put together an extensive compilation of underground heavy bands in Portland, Oregon, which features Ape Machine's "Angry Man," Blackwitch Pudding's "Swamp Gas Of The Nevermizer," and a whole lot more. The site's founder, Billy Goat, comments:
"Portland, Oregon is known for many things--it's the 'Rose City,' clustered around the mighty Willamette River and nearby Mt. Hood, the home of Nike and the Trail Blazers, even a major network television show called Portlandia.
"But to the hard working locals, Portland is home two the two big things that really matter: brews and bad-ass rock 'n' roll. Doomed & Stoned in Portland is a snapshot of the heavy music scene right now in Portland--from the ever-popular Red Fang, Lord Dying, and Toxic Holocaust, to rising stars such as Sons of Huns, Ape Machine, and Drunk Dad.
"Most of all, here is a collection of bands with a strong DIY ethic--everything from experimental metal to a distinct brand of Northwest punk to the ultra-heavy metal doom giants like Graves at Sea, Usnea, and Stoneburner. Not to mention the bands that just like to "Keep Portland Weird" (Blackwitch Pudding, Pinkzilla, Big Black Cloud). Over 65 bands waiting for you to lend them your ears--and a free download, to boot. You may just discover your next favorite bands."

Eolian Empire has confirmed the debut LP release from Portland's Drunk Dad this Summer. The label comments:
"Portland's one and only fuck-you-all-wave group is on a seemingly unstoppable trajectory. In the last two years they have hard-won the turned heads and knowing nods of enthusiastic youngsters and old cynics alike with their all-out assaults on rock and convention. Their art-fucked sludgy hardcore free-jazz noise rock is as unclassifiable as it is enthralling, the splendid result of a rare new band that not only knows what it wants but how to get it.
"Hatched at long disintegrating Portland punk house/venue Failhaus in 2010 -- at first an almost homage, albeit a convincing one, to their Northwest heavy heroes -- Drunk Dad quickly shoved their own way forward, dragging their dirty NW rock roots through sludge and noise and then mashing them together with metallic hardcore and avant diversions to form their own crusty scuzzcore.
"Their leavings, including a cassette-only Failhaus EP on Stankhouse Records and subsequent Morbid Reality 7" on Eolian Empire, have raked in accolades from all levels of media, as a 'strategy of fomented eclecticism -- push each influence hard enough, and they'll eventually crumble into one another' by Pitchfork, 'brilliantly energetic' by Echoes and Dust, 'a pretzel-like intersection of genre super-highways that go in all directions at once' by the Portland Mercury, and 'an off-kilter, barely-tethered mass of sludge/crust/whateverthefuck that is as delightful as it is shoeless n' shambling' by Last Rites.
"Not known for going easy, in the past year Drunk Dad went at it even harder, culminating in their first full-length and gnarliest, most inventive, expansive, and-dare we say?-sophisticated record yet. With their first LP Ripper Killer, Drunk Dad breaks down the stifling genre walls of yore and rewires the wreckage into a megaheavy alloy of scuzz, filth, and noise in a knock-down, drag-out war of ill will wrapped in a nasty bow."
Stand by for more banter on the pulverizing "Ripper Killer" as Eolian gears it up for release on heavyweight 12" and digital delivery this coming July 1st, 2014. The band will also hold a reefer madness listening party for the album:
4/20/2014 Valentine's - Portland, OR w/ J.O.P.O., Dark Wraith Covenant, Redneck

Black Cobra, the devastatingly heavy duo hailing from the bay area and backed by Southern Lord Recordings, has been added to Stumpfest 2014.
Black Cobra's recent album, "Invernal," was described by The Sleeping Shaman as "the sound of a schizophrenic octopus, high on speed, hard liquor and murderous hatred trapped inside the body of a man locked in a darkened jail cell."

In a constant barrage of new noise from Portland-based D.I.Y. noisemongers Eolian Empire, the label’s next conquest comes by way of the filthifying new 12” from local metalworkers Drunk Dad. The following press release was issued about the band:
"If they weren't such dirty fuckers they'd be one of the town's shining success stories of unrelenting hard work and dedication: in a surprisingly short time Drunk Dad went from favorite-band-shirts-on-their-hearts-on-their-sleeves to a unique and dynamic fusion of the heavy, the noisy, and the aggro, with a healthy dose of high drama, as they consistently churn out some of the most devastating live sets Portland has seen in years. Complex but in-your-face arrangements, push-pull duel-guitar interplay, searing behind-the-head leads, heavy motherfucking bass, and hard-hitting, tight, technical traps with dynamic, disturbing vocals to hold it all together evolves to ethical scumbaggery at its finest.
"Morbid Reality, the first vinyl release from Portlandian shitstarters Drunk Dad, merges off-kilter sludge/noise the Pacific Northwest perpetuates so well into a drugged-out but aggro vibe; elements of scathing crust-ish degenerate punk brutality of El Dopa or Dystopia are cold-filtered with slow-motion acerbic sludge basslines and noxious riffage with a post-Melvins experimental vibe."
Eolian Empire will drop the four-song "Morbid Reality" on 12” vinyl and digital download this coming June 11th. The track listing is as follows:
