Absu Embarking On North American Tour
Absu today announces details on an upcoming tour, titled the "North American Connexus Conjuration." The 26-city tour will see the band perform two full sets with music spanning its entire 20-year recording career.
This is the first full tour by the Texas-based mythological occult trio since the release of "Abzu" (reviewed here), the second of a planned trilogy of recordings. Vocalist/drummer Proscriptor shares:
“Since the release of our latest recording, Abzu, the response has been extremely vehement and now is the perfect moment to commemorate the album’s essence throughout North America. We purposely waited until the timing was ideal to embark on this journey, as we shall contaminate the communities with our craft of Mythological Occult Metal. We’re attempting to divide the concerts into two sections: the first act will showcase songs spanning from our entire discography, as the second act will focus on Phase Two from the album Tara: The Cythrául Klan’s Scrutiny. For the past couple of years, many of ABSU’s followers have requested specified songs from this chapter of Tara, so it is our aspiration to give the people what they want.” More...

Absu Cancels Chaos In Tejas Performance
Mythological occult metal artisans Absu regretfully announce the cancellation of their set at this weekend's Chaos In Tejas festivities, where they were confirmed to headline the show at Red 7 this Saturday with support from Terrorism, Loss, Morbosidad, Ares Kingdom and Black Witchery.
Immediately following a bludgeoning performance at the opening night of this year's sweltering installment of Maryland Deathfest this past Thursday night, Absu drummer/vocalist Proscriptor had to rush back to Texas due to a knee infection.
Following two surgeries, Proscriptor will be in good health and back to 110% efficiency by the mid portion of June, but not in time to perform as scheduled on Saturday night.
This cancellation is disheartening to the band for the moment, as the act was fully planning on leveling all in earshot at the performance this weekend; however, this procedure will now ensure that the band will be fully operational for the previously mentioned forthcoming Absu live assaults throughout North and South America, which are being confirmed now to be announced in the weeks just ahead. Stay tuned to be inundated with new information on said events.
Absu Gearing Up For Maryland Death Fest

A week after MDF, Absu will slay this year’s Chaos In Tejas in Austin, Texas on Saturday, June 2nd, headlining the indoor stage at Red 7, with support from Terrorism, Loss, Morbosidad, Ares Kingdom and Black Witchery.
5/24/2012 Sonar – Baltimore, MD @ Maryland Deathfest
6/02/2012 Red 7 – Austin, TX @ Chaos In Tejas
Further live assaults throughout North and South America are being devised now for disbursement in the coming weeks. The following press release was also issued about the band's latest album:
"Absu’s sixth full-length, 'Abzu,' takes the band’s signature occult black thrash mythology to dark new calculating territories through a whirlwind of razor-sharp riffing and some of the extreme metal world’s most top-notch drumming. The second part of an ongoing trilogy of albums, which began with 2009’s acclaimed 'Absu,' and will eventually come to a finale with 'Apsu,' 'Abzu' was recorded at Nomad Recording Studios in Carrollton, Texas, and finds drummer/vocalist Proscriptor and bassist/vocalist Ezezu sharing equal vocal duties and debuts the skills of new guitarist Vis Crom. The record was mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus), and features original cover art from Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader)." More...

Absu Reveals New Album Artwork
Candlelight Records today has confirmed October 4th as the North American release date for Absu’s new album, titled "Abzu." As previously announced, the album is part two of a planned trilogy of recordings from the Dallas-based mythological occult metal band. Mixed by J.T. Longoria (King Diamond/Solitude Aeternus), the album features the original works of Polish artist Zbigniew Bielak (Watain, Behemoth, Destroyer 666, Vader). Check out the cover artwork below.

Recorded at Nomad Recording Studios in Carrollton, Texas, "Abzu" finds drummer/vocalist Proscriptor and bassist/vocalist Ezezu sharing equal vocal duties and debuts the skills of new guitarist Vis Crom.
Proscriptor comments, “Abzu is the first studio release to feature a co-vocalist alongside myself since our third album, The Third Storm of Cythraul. Ezezu’s vocal presentation is beyond superlative and I am overly pleased with his execution and delivery. The songwriting undertakings were equally distributed between both Ezezu and Vis Crom and I must admit it brings an admirable multiplicity to the album as a whole. The last song on the album, 'A Song For Ea,' was composed in six movements, as it brought the entire band together as an equivalent songwriting team. Vis Crom has definitely proven to be Absu’s most proficient guitarist in the history of the band.”
Writing began on Abzu last autumn as Proscriptor notes, “This album has not only been the most challenging in Absu’s discography, but the quickest paced – composition and arrangement wise. The current line-up is scattered all across the United States, so the album was physically written utilizing internet file sharing. We even rehearsed, at times, while communicating via cell phones. Lyrically, the album descends deeper into Enki's lower world as well Thelemic and Enochian Magic(k) Systems. My lyrical architecture is extremely convoluted, so I decided to create a generalized synopsis explaining the themes behind each song. I feel these are my best poems since 2001’s Tara.” More...

Absu Comments On Upcoming Album
Texas-based mythological occult metal trio Absu is currently hard at work on "Abzu," the follow up to the band’s 2009 self-titled album. The album is being tracked at Nomad Recording Studio in Carrollton, Texas and mixed by none other than J.T. Longoria. (King Diamond, Solitude Aeternus).
Drummer/vocalist/lyricist Proscriptor confirms, "The entire rhythm section has been successfully tracked and all that remains are mellotron passages and vocal lines. Before attempting the final mix, we plan to transfer the rhythm section onto two-inch tape to thaw out its digital timbre. With this record, we are appending dirtier elements of psychedelia and fusion. Lyrically, it will descend deeper into Enki's lower world as well the Enochian Magic(k) System." Continuing he notes, "I can tell you this album will definitely not be a 'natural progression' from previous releases, but a feat of metaphysical conquest and murkiness."
"Abzu" is the second of a three-part series and is planned for release later this year. The tentative track listing is as follows:
I.) Ontologically, It Became Time & Space
II.) Circles of the Oath
III.) Abraxas Connexus
IV.) Skrying in the Spirit Vision
V.) Earth Ripper
VI.) A Song for Ea including:
a. E-A
b. A Myriad of Portals
c. 3rd Tablet
d. Warren of Imhullu
e. The Waters – The Denizens
f. E-A (Reprise) More...

Immortal Plows Through Chicago
It's only fitting, in an ironic way, that Immortal finally arrived in Chicago during a winter when my city was buried under two feet of snow. It's one of those coincidences that I'd have a much easier time appreciating if I wasn't trapped in my own home for four days a mere three weeks before the show. Despite taking almost a decade to return to the Windy City, Immortal was still worth the wait.
Unfortunately I missed all but the last two songs of Absu's set since the CTA thought it was a great idea to name two stops Ashland on the Green Line and I'd personally like to meet whoever was responsible for that decision, so that I can challenge that person to a bloody duel to the death suspended over a pit of lava with spiked clubs. I ended up taking the train in the exact opposite direction towards the second Ashland since jumping on the train saying that it was heading to the Ashland stop seemed like a great idea at the time. That whole ordeal managed to take up over an hour of my life since I ended up at the exact opposite end of Chicago that I wanted to be at. Thank you very much CTA. You really know how to create wonderful, memorable experiences. More...
