Once again, Iron Bonehead brings together two of the black/death underground for a split LP: Vassafor and Temple Nightside now combine forces for "Call Of The Maelstrom," due out February 23rd. Iron Bonehead Productions comments:
"Aptly titled, 'Call of the Maelstrom' unites both bands not simply by geography - Vassafor hails from New Zealand, while Temple Nightside hails from Australia - but rather, a shared sensibility and strive to explore the abyss, whatever plane it may manifest itself.
"Widely revered in the underground for their serpentine sonic sorcery, Vassafor here deliver four of their most direct tracks to date, grinding forth with utter barbarism that nevertheless retains the band's characteristically mesmeric quality - and a certain hideous hypnosis.
"On the flip, Temple Nightside carry forward the bestiality with two soul-rending shards of gnawing, beyond-sepulchral metal of death that, over their more extended length, frequently drive deep into totally doomed territory." More...

The track - a cover of Greek black metal band Varathron - hails from the band's forthcoming split vinyl LP with Sinistrous Diabolus, set for international release on June 16th via Iron Bonehead Productions. The track listing is as follows:

Dark Descent Records, in association with Parasitic Records and Ash St. PDX, has announced a two-day showcase festival taking place on October 4th and 5th at the Ash St. Saloon in Portland, OR. The line-up, much like the label's roster, is comprised of some of the best today's underground death metal scene has to offer. Tickets details are available at this location.

The dense black metal/sludge assault of the recent Vassafor album "Obsidian Codex" is represented in a substantial stream over on soundcloud. The band is streaming all 24 minutes of side C, "Nemesis," from the release. This double album is the official debut of the New Zealand band, after years of several minor releases. Vassafor has also posted other tracks from "Obsidian Codex" over on YouTube.
