Brutal Assault Festival Band Upddate Announced

Brutal Assault Festival announces another band update for its upcoming 2019 edition. Tells the festival promotion agency:

"Let’s open this mega update with a black metal stormblast! Over seven years, deathlike silence has filled the halls of the world’s biggest black metal forge, whilst powers have been gathering to resurrect the band right in time for their 25th anniversary. And now DIMMU BORGIR have finally returned with a vicious work of art that is their latest album Eonian and they are coming to storm the main stage at Brutal Assault!
Wicked aural filth comes from the islands with GODFLESH, who are highly regarded as one of the pioneers of industrial metal; they took industrial to the next level with their fuse of heavy guitars and mixing it with slow drum loops and effects and their unique approach has spawned several musical styles since their conception.
Brutal Assault will also present a combo of iconic thrashers that need no introduction, ANTHRAX and SACRED REICH will make it to the fest alongside upcoming crossover thrash ministry IRON REAGAN and a staple name of the genre PRONG. More...

Oceans Of Slumber Guitarists Leave The Band

Houston, Texas based progressive metal outfit Oceans Of Slumber has announced that both guitarists Sean Gary and Anthony Contrereas have left the band. A statement on Facebook reads as follows:

"As many of you have seen, we’ve been having a rough patch over the last few years. Especially October. After Anthony decided to leave us (which was something we somewhat expected sadly), Sean informed us that he too would be exiting. He needed to concentrate on his personal life and career and that meant no more touring and band commitments. We’ve known for a bit about this and have auditioned a handful of people. We’ve got one of two covered now... Now the hunt begins for the next.

"Severing ties in a relationship is never easy. Losing two of the founding members of this band after 7 years of close proximity sucks too. Anthony and I have been in multiple bands together and have traveled all over the world together in them. Sean has been my right hand man from the get go. It’s taken a lot of work to get where we are. But things change. They always do. We will miss them immensely, but this house isn’t finished being built and we’re left with the task of completing it. Though there is an amount of hurt and sadness on our end, we will power through all of this and come out just fine. We must stay vigilant not to be dragged down with the daunting task of moving forward. With all of that said; goodbye to the two of you and we hope all of the things you want and need happen for you."

Epica Enchants Kentish Town Forum

Over the past ten years or so, symphonic metal has really exploded in popularity, thanks to the success of groups such as Nightwish, Within Temptation and Theatre Of Tragedy. Last Friday, I had the pleasure of witnessing another of the sub-genre's most revered bands, Epica, at their show in London where they were joined by Myrkur and Oceans Of Slumber to craft a night to remember.

Opening the show was Houston, Texas progressive metal outfit, Oceans Of Slumber. Not being familiar with the quintet, I had no idea what to expect. Like many opening bands, they had to fight through some relatively poor sound at the beginning of their set but fight they did and those in attendance were treated to a magnificent display of atmospheric metal. Vocalist Cammie Gilbert was superb in showcasing her soulful voice which fit alongside the gloomy, My Dying Bride-esque music very well. Songs from their new album, "The Banished Heart" such as "The Decay Of Disregard" sound fresh and intriguing and it won't be long until Oceans Of Slumber are headlining tours of a similar size. Oceans Of Slumber Reveals New Album

Houston-based progressive metal outfit Oceans of Slumber has just announced the release of the forthcoming full-length album "The Banished Heart," which will be issued on March 2, 2018 via Century Media Records.

Singer Cammie Gilbert comments, "Guided by our resolve to only make music that is real to us, we explored a new depth and crawled deep inside ourselves to uncover what had been hiding and bring it out into the light. Sometimes in life there are places where we are able to turn away, to get away with applying the utilities of denial, but not this time. This time we forced ourselves to stay in that uncomfortable and terrifying place. To explore its vast and dark void in hopes of uncovering a better path out of it, not only for ourselves, but for all those familiar with that same dark place within themselves."

Oceans Of Slumber mystifies listeners with atmospheric melodies over darkened dynamics that range from the perversely sinister to the adventurously progressive, creating an undeniably epic wall of sound that has become the Texans’ trademark.

More details on the album will be revealed soon. More...

Oceans Of Slumber Posts "Turpentine"

With the release of Oceans Of Slumber's "Winter" on the horizon, the band shows the world yet another cut with "Turpentine." The band comments:

"...and now to the other side of what we do, we bring you all the boudoir vibe and the delta blues sounds of 'Turpentine.' A song that combines our furthest influences with our most primal, this is the opposite side of our extreme metal leanings and our Prog tendencies and the ultimate result of the Bayou City that helped spawn what we are today."

The Century Media Records debut, which also marks Oceans Of Slumber's sophomore full-length release, will see a worldwide release on Friday, March 4th 2016.

Oceans Of Slumber Releases New Music Video

Oceans Of Slumber, the genre defying Texan quintet, just delivered yet another dose of dark, boundless progressive metal with a brand new video for the track "Suffer The Last Bridge."

This new song is taken off the band's forthcoming Century Media debut, "Winter," due out March 4th, 2016 and up for digital pre-order here. Drummer Dobber Beverly also comments:

"Living is an imperfect consequence of being born. We are fallible creatures and we must adapt and learn to overcome our fear of living. 'Suffer the Last Bridge' is the call to embrace your imperfections and walk away from the things you can't change. The video follows Cammie on a contemplative journey through the beautiful Texas landscapes we call home.

"It's her journey to a place of realization and the acceptance of change and loss. And eventually finds her walking away from the unavoidable consequence of being alive. Musically we wanted to write a huge arena style melodic metal song. Combining all the elements of what we do into this brief glimpse of a larger story. An Etude. A picture. We have many directions to take and many more surprises for you." More...

Bayou Doom Fest III Details Announced

The Houston Doom Brigade is pleased to announce that this year’s edition of the Bayou Doom Fest will be headlined by none other than Houston legends Helstar. Bayou Doom Fest III will take place on August 8th at Fitzgerald’s in Houston, TX. In addition to Helstar, the fest will feature Century Media’s newest signees, Oceans of Slumber, plus Las Cruces, Sanctus Bellum, Project Armageddon, Funeral Horse, and many more.

Speaking on the festival, Helstar vocalist James Rivera stated “Although most people wouldn’t consider us to be a doom band in the traditional sense, doom is a style of music that is very near and dear to our hearts and it’s one that’s been a big influence on us. Doom metal has a darkness to it that we incorporate into our sound as well. In honor of the occasion, we’ve got a very special set planned that will showcase some of our doomiest tracks. We’ve also got some surprises planned around the theme of the late, great Christopher Lee as Dracula. Godfathers of Doom and Nosferatu anyone?”

Houston Doom Brigade co-founder Doomstress Alexis commented “There’s been no bigger friend to the doom scene in Texas than Helstar. Though they may a somewhat unorthodox choice as headliner, there’s not a doom fan in the state that isn’t a big fan of Helstar. That makes them a great fit for the fest.”

Now in its 3rd year, Bayou Doom Fest has showcased the best talent that the Gulf Coast region has to offer. Festival alumni include Venomous Maximus, Warbeast, Wo Fat, Cauldron (ex-Gammacide), Mothership, and Destroyer of Light. More...
