The Eternal will enter Colour Sound Studios in Melbourne, Australia to commence work on the band's 5th studio album tentatively titled "When The Circle of Light Begins To Fade." The band will track 13 songs and will be working on the recording process for the next 6 months. Singer/Guitarist Mark Kelson has this to say about the project:
'We are approaching this recording quite differently than our previous albums, usually we have very comprehensive and complete demos, but we have decided to start tracking at the basic idea stage and see where it takes us. As for the material, I have spent a lot of time reflecting over our back catalogue and everything we have achieved since we formed at the start of 2003 and I really wanted to write an album that reflects all the elements of our sound. I feel the new material takes elements of 'Sleep Of Reason', 'Kartika', 'Under A New Sun' & even 'The Sombre Light of Isolation' and blends them all together. We will still approach the new material very melodically as we always have done, but I have a feeling this will be a little heavier and darker than 'Under A New Sun' as the last year has been hard for me on a personal level and I feel that comes across in many of the songs composed thus far. Australian gothic metal band THE ETERNAL has issued the following studio update:
"Just a quick update for you all on the new album 'Under A New Sun,' for those of you that have kept up to date with the blog you will know we are at the final stages of the recording process, all the music and most of the mixing is done. We will head back to 301 with Jeff Martin at the start of Febuary to track vocals and add the final touches to the mix. The sound has to be the best we have produced to date, so at the moment we are feeling quite proud of this one. We have no plans for the release date at this stage as we would like to take our time and shop this album around, but expect to be hearing it in 2010. So make sure you check back in on the studio blog the first week of Febuary, until then happy new year to you all, we hope you will join us for a great 2010!"
"Under A New Sun" has been named as the title for the upcoming album from The Eternal, set to see the light of day in 2010. The album will be the follow up to the acclaimed "Kartika" and also the band's fourth full length album. Song titles include "Control," "Under A New Sun," "A Thousand Shades of You," "Collapse," and "Cast In Stone" to name a few.
The band entered 301 Studios in Byron Bay on December 4th. Their new studio blog will be updated daily throughout December with pictures and the latest news on the recording process.
"Under A New Sun" will be produced by Jeff Martin (The Tea Party). Jeff adds this about the album: "I proudly re-introduce The Eternal… The type of band I’ve been waiting to produce. It’s been a year now since Mark and I agreed to embark on a journey that begins this December. For The Eternal this will not be a stepping stone but a launch pad. For me, a creative working relationship that allows me to realise an artist’s vision and re-connect with past influences, all the while looking into the future…darkly. I envision an alchemical marriage, a musical landscape anchored by organic rock and roll and infested with industrial overtones. To put things lightly, you’re not playing with kids here. The Eternal are the real deal."
The album will be co-engineered by Paul Pilsneniks, who has worked with such artists as The Living End, The Mars Volta, Silverchair, Grinspoon and Alanis Morissette, and The Eternal has also enlisted acclaimed Finnish keyboard player Maria Ilmoniemi (Tarja/Husky Rescue) to contribute.

Australian goth/doom metal band The Eternal has posted a tour report from Europe and the US, plus a hint at details for their upcoming fifth album, hopefully due out in 2010.
“We have finally returned home from our extensive world tour which saw us play through Australia, Japan, Portugal, Spain, Belgium, Holland, Germany, Finland, Hungary, USA, Canada & Mexico. We played with bands such as Katatonia, Swallow the Sun, Anathema & Tarja (former Nightwish vocalist) as well as many other fantastic bands along the way. It was an amazing tour for us, with some very difficult times and some of the best moments that band has experienced. We would like to thank every promoter, band and fan we met and made along the way and anyone that believed in us or gave us somewhere to sleep, the tour could not have happened without you and we are truly grateful. Expect a mass of pictures and video online in the near future.
“We have been working on a yet to be titled 4th album that we are currently planning to record in december and it should see the light of day in 2010. We have some great people involved in this project and we look forward to sharing some more details with you in the coming months. We have the basis of around 7 songs written, but more on that later!”
The Eternal guitarist Terry Vainoras has left the band during their European tour. Here's an update from the band:
“Greeting from Helsinki Finland! We are currently 21 dates into our ‘Kartika’ world tour. So far we have had a fantastic time, but not everything can go as planned and due to reasons out of our control, guitar player Terry Vainoras departed the tour in Jyvaskyla, Finland on the 15th of April. We will complete all remaining dates as a three piece, so far we have done Firebox Metal festival in Seinojoki, Finland with this format and the show went off without a hitch! So as usual all engines are full steam ahead in The Eternal camp and we look forward to seeing you on the rest of tour. Thanks to those that have supported us through this, it just aint rock n’ roll without some drama!
Mark, Dave & Marty”
