Warbringer Announces New Drummer Carlos Cruz

Despite practicing and writing together the last two months, WARBRINGER has official announced that Carlos Cruz (Hexen) is their new drummer. The delay in announcement was out of respect to their old drummer and Carlos' former band mates and there was no question about Carlos' playing, songwriting or personality as the band ironically offered Carlos the spot in 2008.

"After years of putting forth nothing but blood, sweat, and tears into my tireless ambitions for playing music, I have finally found an outlet where no more time is wasted. It was flattering to have been approached by Warbringer the first time they made a personnel change in 2008, but this time around it couldn't have felt more like perfect timing," states Carlos. "They're a collective group of humble, open-minded, down-to-earth guys who share the same fanaticism for music as I do and are the tightest musicians I have ever played with. I've never felt so welcomed and inspired to move forward. Even past members of the band have congratulated me and it feels very much like family, not just another band. From some recent serious downfalls in my personal life came this beautiful opportunity and I couldn't be happier. We'll be seeing all YOU Warbringers out on the road soon!"

Carlos will be making his live debut in Mexico City on March 5th at the Eyescream Festival alongside Asesino, Anvil, Toxic Holocaust and Abigail Williams. WARBRINGER plan to record their third album in April with more live shows in May and June.

Metalunderground.com's Best of 2009 Awards

Here we are, more than one month into 2010, the Super Bowl past, as we've yet to post our staff picks for 2009. Nevertheless, I polled our staff here at Metalunderground.com at the end of last year to obtain their picks in several categories in metal for 2009 and will now present those results.

The outlook for 2009 in metal was perhaps positive, but not phenomenal before the year began, having seen a number of landmark releases and tours in the two years prior. But when the year was over, I'd have to say I was pleasantly surprised at what a good year in metal 2009 turned out to be. As the metalcore trend fades further into horizon, we had hardly a mention of metalcore bands in this year's poll. Sure, the stalwarts will still have success, but the novelty has worn off and the genre as a whole does not generate as much buzz anymore. The only noticable trend was the growth of the thrash resurgence, which is hard to fault, giving the year a very solid metal feeling.

That said, let's get down to the details and talk about those bands that made 2009 such a solid year for heavy metal by announcing the Metalunderground.com staff picks for 2009. Here are the Metalunderground.com staff picks for the following categories: Best Metal Album of 2009, Best Metal DVD of 2009, Best Metal Newcomer of 2009, Best Live Act of 2009, and Most Anticipated Release for 2010. After releasing their latest album “This is 13” and playing numerous festivals this summer, Anvil is touring the US and other countries this year to reclaim their old fans’ love and make new ones. At all-ages shows, the generations represented range from young kids who have never been to a rock show to metalheads older than the half-centurions in Anvil. I saw their first show in New Orleans Saturday night, and it was amazing. More...
