Eyehategod Frontman Released From Prison
EYEHATEGOD frontman Mike Williams has issued the following update:
"Hey kids — I'm out of jail, AGAIN. Just a minor technicality, though. It's all part of the game. Society fucks us all sooner or later in one way or another; but two months in Orleans Parish Prison really ain't nuthin' compared to the bullshit of everyday life. If, and I mean IF, you wanna play the Drug Game (all caps) you better be ready to deal with the consequences — it ain't NO joke. The time I did in Morgan City was like a fucking hotel stay compared to O.P.P. That's yer choice, though. Time runs out sooner or later, the hourglass is running for YOU, brothers and sisters. You get in the system, you STAY in the system. All is well though. I'm in one and a half pieces and that's good. Listening to DYSTOPIA and THE SMITHS and COCKSPARRER and drinking wine... Oh yeah, the judge, Honorable D.W., decreed that I'm to stay out of Orleans Parish for five years. Banned in N.O. So looks like no shows there for a bit, but there's always Jefferson, Covington, the world, etc."
Mike Williams previously spent 91 days in the Morgan City jail in late 2005. You can read his interview with Decibel magazine from December 2005 a few days after Williams made bail.
Eyehategod Reissue Cancelled
Canada's Moshpit Tragedy Records has scrapped the planned reissue of Eyehategod's "99 Miles of Bad Road" CD at the band's request.
In a recent email to Moshpit Tragedy, Eyehategod bassist Gary Mader wrote: "We have been debating on whether or not to do this re-release for several reasons. First and most important, we feel that Emetic Records has been better to us than any label we have dealt with, and for that we feel that we owe some loyalty to them when it comes to any release. Finding an honest label is a rarity these days, and since we've got one, we'd rather not ruin that relationship. Aside from that, we are just less than enthusiastic about releasing yet another retrospective project. There are already three full-length CD releases like this, and if I remember correct, we left these tracks off of 'Preaching...' because some of us thought they were substandard."
Moshpit Tragedy co-founder Rayny Forster commented in a statement: "We have no hard feelings and also want what is best for Eyehategod, Emetic Records and the fans. If they don't think it is a worthy release, we'd rather not release it. I have been in contact with Mike [Williams, Eyehategod vocalist[ and we still plan to release something from one of their many side projects in the future."
Eyehategod CD/EP To Be Release By Moshpit Tragedy
EYEHATEGOD have announced they will re-release their ultra-rare “99 Miles of Bad Road” seven-inch on CD through Canada’s Moshpit Tragedy Records.
The CD will feature re-mastered demo recordings of the songs “99 Miles Of Bad Road”, “Story Of The Eye” and “Jackass In The Will Of God” (originally released on Brazil’s 2+2=5 Records) as well as bonus live tracks and enhanced live video footage.
Regarded as the founders of American sludgecore, EYEHATEGOD have become one of the most important bands to emerge from the NOLA (New Orleans, Louisana) Metal Scene. EYEHATEGOD formed in 1988 and became known for their heavy, detuned and bluesy guitar riffs, combined with walls of feedback and tortured vocals to create a harsh misanthropic vibe.
Moshpit Tragedy Records (who’ve signed an exclusive N. American distribution deal with Cargo Music, Inc.) have also recently announced plans to re-issue crust legends EXTINCTION OF MANKIND “Ale To England” on CD with new cover art and bonus live tracks.
Eyehategod Tribute In The Works
Emetic Records have announced the release of 'For The Sick – A Tribute To Eyehategod', set for the fall of 2006.
All the artists involved in the release are friends or fans of the sludge legends. Below is a list of most of the bands involved:

Headline News
Superjoint Ritual Is No More
In a recent interview with Live-Metal.net, SUPERJOINT RITUAL bassist Hank III discussed his new solo album, "Straight to Hell", and revealed that he is working on a new project with SUPERJOINT RITUAL/ex-PANTERA frontman Philip Anselmo called ARSON ANTHEM. A couple of excerpts from the interview follow:
Live-Metal.net: What is going on with SUPERJOINT RITUAL?
Hank III: "SUPERJOINT is in the grave right now, because someone tried bossing the boss and you NEVER boss the boss. Now he had to learn the hard way, so Philip has laid that band to rest. It might come back. I seriously doubt it. But in the meantime, DOWN is working on their new record and getting ready to be touring here soon. I've got another side project with Philip. I'm playing drums and Philip's is playing guitar. Mike Williams from EYEHATEGOD is screamin' and it's called ARSON ANTHEM. So far we've got eight songs of it recorded. So we're still having fun and making music, just getting in there and jammin', man."More...

Byzantine Recording Eyehategod Cover For Tribute
West Virginia thrashers Byzantine recently entered the studio to record a cover song for an upcoming upcoming Eyehategod tribute album. Lead guitarist Tony Rohrbough offers this update:
"Hi everyone. Just a quick update here to let everyone know what’s up. While most of you were chowing down on some Easter dinner last Sunday, we were in the studio. We went back to Aaron Fisher’s 101 Productions Studio, where we recorded our previous albums and recorded a cover song for an upcoming Eyehategod tribute album. We recorded 'Shoplift' from their Take as Needed for Pain album. I really like the way it turned out. It sounds absolutely nothing like us but it also does in some ways. Sludgy-as-all-hell-stoner-doom. You’ll just have to hear it. We don’t have a release date on the album at this time but whenever it comes out, we’ll be selling copies at our shows. Until then, you’ll just have to bug one of us to let you hear it."
Byzantine is currently biding time playing headlining shows to support the band's 2005 release, '...And They Shall Take Up Serpents' before appearing at the 8th Annual New England Metal and Hardcore Festival on Sunday, April 30. Then, the band will be support for Kittie on select shows through mid-May.
Byzantine has also added a live video of "Hatfield," from the band's Prosthetic debut 'The Fundamental Component,' featuring a guest appearance by Lamb of God's Randy Blythe on the Byzantine MySpace page (http://www.myspace.com/byzantine).

Eyehategod Was Jailed On Narcotics Charge
EYEHATEGOD guitarist Jimmy Bower (also of SUPERJOINT RITUAL and DOWN) has revealed to The Gauntlet that the recent arrest of the group's frontman, Michael Williams, was drug-related. "He is basically incarcerated on a narcotics charge, and he was on probation when he got busted," Bower said in a brand-new interview conducted on Friday (Oct. 14). "It just really sucks because he's in a small town, he's got a high bail, he was on probation and it looks like it's going to be fifteen to twenty thousand dollars to get this resolved."
EYEHATEGOD will be releasing a two-disc live set in the coming weeks to help raise funds for Williams' release. "One [disc] will be our set from Tokyo (three songs from this are featured on 'Preaching...'), and the other from our last tour," the band had previously stated in a posting on their web site. "Both recordings sound great. We will release this on the band's 'label,' Press Pause Media/Cassettes, so that ALL of the money, excluding pressing costs, will go toward Mike's defense."

Fundraiser For Jailed Eyehategod Frontman
Legendary New Orleans sludge kings EYEHATEGOD have issued the following statement:
"[EYEHATEGOD frontman] Mike Williams has been arrested, and is being held in Morgan City Jail, about an hour west of New Orleans. We won't elaborate on the details as a precautionary measure; if you'd like to know, write him (info below). he was on probation at the time of his arrest, so having a cop breathe in his general direction was a threat to his freedom.
"As of [mid-September], Mike was in good spirits. Jimmy [Bower; EYEHATEGOD/SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist, DOWN drummer] was able to visit with him, and said he looked healthy, and most importantly, has a positive outlook and good sense of humor with regards to his situation. He did say they had no TV, so drop him a line; show your support when it counts the most. No magazines, CDs, stickers, etc... just letters. Keep in mind that his letters are screened, and this a small, Christian town (this is a major understatement). Please do not write anything that may affect his treatment as an inmate. We wanna keep his only connection to everyone wide open.
"We will be releasing a two-CD set in order to raise money for his defense. One will be our set from Tokyo (three songs from this are featured on 'Preaching...'), and the other from our last tour. Both recordings sound great. We will release this on the band's 'label,' Press Pause Media/Cassettes, so that ALL of the money, excluding pressing costs, will go toward Mike's defense. Any help with distro, advertising would be greatly appreciated as we barely have enough $$$ to press this. We will try to have this out within a month. Contact Gary (ghawg@bellsouth.net) for anything related to this release. Seriously, your help will make a difference."

Eyehategod Frontman Is Alive and Well
Following initial reports that EYEHATEGOD frontman Mike Williams was "unaccounted for" in the wake of the devastation caused by Hurricane Katrina late last month, it has now emerged that Williams has in fact been located and is said to be alive and well. According to various reports, Mike stayed behind in the New Orleans area but managed to stay out of harm's way and has since made contact with his bandmates.
EYEHATEGOD recently released 10-song CD collection, entitled "Preaching the End-Time Message", through Emetic Records. The album includes several rare and live recordings as well as three brand-new tracks recorded on March 10, 2005.
Down Drummer Says There Will Be A New Studio Album
In a recent interview with Metal Maniacs magazine, EYEHATEGOD/SUPERJOINT RITUAL guitarist and DOWN drummer Jimmy Bower revealed that he is "sure we'll do another DOWN record. I've talked to Phil [Anselmo, DOWN/SUPERJOINT RITUAL/ex-PANTERA frontman] and everybody else. Everybody's expressed interest in wanting to do a DOWN record, so that's basically all it takes. Hopefully within the next year or two that can happen. DOWN records are fun. Phil's doing a lot better as far as handling [Dimebag's death]. It's been a big wake-up call for a lot of people over the the last five, six months. People are doing cool things with their lives; cool, positive things. Let's save metal!"
DOWN is the New Orleans "supergroup" featuring Anselmo, Bower, Pepper Keenan (guitars, C.O.C.), Rex Brown (bass, ex-PANTERA) and Kirk Windstein (guitars, CROWBAR). The band's sophomore album, "Down II", was released in March 2002 on Elektra Records.

Eyehategod Says Pantera Were Discussing Reunion
EYEHATEGOD vocalist Mike D. Williams has posted the following message from the band at his Southern Nihilism Front website (www.southernnihilismfront.com):
"I know by now you've all heard this bullshit... Its sad as fuck, I can't even put into words the scope of the violence involved in this... a couple of my other friends were shot as well.
The fucked up thing is that the shooter was apparently pissed 'cos Pantera broke up. The goddamn irony of it all is (nothing was set in stone), but they were just starting to talk about doing some reunion shows and put all their petty differences aside. What a fuckin shame.
I got tons a stories about how much fun we had whenever we hung with Dime, staying at his house, BBq'ing and generally getting blitzed, cuttin' up and talkin' trash..
Blasting D.A.Coe and KISS with that freakin dry ice machine/light show in his living room (!!) and even going fishing with him in Arlington. We'll never forget all that. The dude lived to have a good time.
...Roll the dice and do a shot of Blacktooth for Ya boy... EHG 2004."
