Spawn Of Possession Discusses Upcoming Album

Spawn of Possession vocalist Dennis Röndum recently conducted an interview with Metalbay.net to discuss the band's upcoming album, which will be the follow-up to "Noctambulant." An excerpt from the interview follows:

MB: What can fans expect to hear in the new album? What differences/similarities can we expect?

Dennis: I think this new album is quite an extension of the creativity that Spawn of Possession encompasses. In comparison to the previous releases it feels much broader and epic this time around. We’ve tampered a bit with structures and things like that just to mix it up and to bring more nuances into the music. The good old Spawn grooves are definitely still there but with a new set of twists and turns. Another major factor is that there have been some serious line-up changes since Noctambulant. Compared to the old setting we have three new guys in the band that consists of Erlend Caspersen on bass, Henrik “Morris” Schönström on drums and Christian Muenzner on guitar. The only originals are I and Bryss and I’ve stepped down from the drums to focus solely on the vocals. We’re right in the middle of recording this album so it’s kind of hard to describe it since it’s still unfolding in the studio. All I can say for sure is that this album will lift some eye brows and make some jaws drop when it hits the streets.

MB: Will the music still fall on the technical side?

Dennis: Well first of all I have to say that we’ve never put the technical aspect in front of the music. In other words we would never make a song or a riff abnormally technical just for the sake of it. We’re all about writing good solid music and the whole tech thing is just a part of our style since we don’t really hold back any tools. But to answer your question this album will generally be just as tech as anything we’ve done in the past, probably even a bit more here and there.

Spawn Of Possession Signs To Relapse

Swedish metal act Spawn of Possession has announced its signing to Relapse Records. Spawn of Possession (Jonas Bryssling: guitar, Dennis Röndum: vocals, Erlend Casperson: bass, Henrik Schönström: drums, Christian Münzner: guitar) formed in 1997 and has previously released two full-length albums.

The band is currently writing for its Relapse debut and follow-up to "Noctambulant," which is set to be released this fall. Spawn of Possession's Jonas Bryssling commented on the signing and upcoming release:

More good news is on the way so keep your eyes open for a brand new Spawn of Possession website which will be launched soon. As usual we like to keep what is coming under wraps, but rest assured this record will be quite a slab of imaginative brutality for you guys to sink your teeth into."

Spawn Of Possession Re-Recruits Dennis Rondum

Sweden's Spawn of Possession has issued the following announcement about re-recruiting Dennis Röndum:

"Yes Dennis are back in the band, where he belongs. We would like to thank Chalky for the time he was a part of the band, He helped us bringing SoP back to life for a moment and without him we could not have done the Australian tour. So we are thankful for everything he did for us and wish him the best of luck. Line-Up: Jonas Bryssling, Dennis Röndum, Erlend Caspersen, Richard Schill, Cristian Muenzner."

Dennis also stated: "I’ve been quite disconnected from the band for a long time now so when Bryssling got in touch with me it felt kind of surreal. But non the less amazing when he started to describe his visions for the next Spawn of Possession record and that he wanted me to handle the vocals for it. Now mind you, it’s been over four years of silence between us and we parted on a somewhat bad note but that’s in the past. The focus is now on the new material, which Bryssling has invited me to get involved with and after listening to the temp tracks, all I can say is that I’m in for a serious ride. Although my presence have been lacking in the scene I’ve been busy writing and recording with my new band. It’s still all under wraps but hopefully I’ll be able to share it with you in a not too distant future. With that said, I’m really excited to be back in the SoP camp and I can’t wait to join the others to complete what I believe will be a masterpiece of unparalleled proportions." More...

Spawn Of Possession Streaming Pre-Production Song

Sweden's Spawn of Possession is currently streaming a pre-production track online via the band's MySpace page. Spawn of Possession issued the following statement about the song and update about an upcoming album:

"Just breaking the silence a little bit. This is a preprod recorded at home in n-track and cubase with digital drums. So the production is pretty bad and muddy. But the production for a preprod is not very important anyway. We record preprods so we can work with the arrangements and etc. Since we cant rehearse together, we do this instead. This is the first version of the song. So its not perfect.

"Some stuff which gonna be different on the album version are: * The bass intro * some guitar stuff in the middle of the song * the vocals patterns gonna be polished * new/polished drum patterns * A guitar solo in the end before the verse starts again.

"Eight songs are now complete, so there are four songs left to finish up, and the song writing process has been quite good lately. The new songs are more massive (epic), detailed, faster, melodic, brutal, catchier and energetic than the old ones. And so far I'm (we) are happy with the result. It sounds really close to the vision I got right after the recording of Noctambulant. Which was to take everything one step further. To me personally the third album will be the ultimate SoP album. Because this time I finally got the time to sit down and write down those visions which has been haunting me for years. This would never have been possible with the old members. They where pretty much exhausted and done after Noctambulant. Can't blame them for that, It was a difficult period with a lot of stress and hard work. I was pretty fucked up myself after being isolated for one year of songwriting and practicing. More...

Spawn of Possession Drummer Dennis Röndum Quits

Drummer Dennis Röndum of the Swedish technical death metal outfit SPAWN OF POSSESSION has announced his departure from the band. His statement on the matter reads as follows:

"After 10 years in SPAWN OF POSSESSION I have decided to move on and attempt other challenges in life. My reasons for leaving the band are various but the one most notable is my lack of interest in drumming as of late, where I feel I don't have the dedication to be an extreme metal drummer anymore. My interest in music [is] still there but my drive to play blast beats is lost.

"I wish to send out a big thanx to all the fans and other bands I've had the pleasure to encounter on the road while touring with SPAWN OF POSSESSION. You all made it worthwhile. I sincerely wish the guys in SPAWN OF POSSESSION the best of luck in the future and I look forward to new sick tunes from the band."

SPAWN OF POSSESSION's sophomore album, "Noctambulant", was released last year via Neurotic Records. The CD was recorded at Pama Studios in Kristianopel, Sweden with producer Magnus Sedenberg.
