My biggest issue with metal in the 2010s is that in contrast to the past three decades, there's just a lack of creativity. Newer metalcore is being increasingly influenced by nu-metal and post-hardcore as the new musicians who are in their 20s and 30s are now playing music that's entirely an amalgam of what they grew up with as teens rather than creating anything new.
Blackgaze was novel for the first few years but now feels like the light beer version of black metal at this point that doesn't have the same edge that metal is supposed to have. I'm not sure if I want black metal to have a kinder, gentler, dare I say, “cuddlier” face when compared to the antisocial behavior that defined the second wave. When I hear a band like Alcest or Deafheaven, I don't feel like these are maniacs with serious mental issues precisely because it sounds way too calculated and professional for my aging ears.
Djent is nice but often feels too monotonous to really do justice to how technical it is. For, “progressive metal” the songwriting lacks the same level of unexpected changes in direction that make progressive rock acts like Rush and Yes so appealing. Yeah, Djent is heavy but it's also often predicable when unconventional songwriting is half of what separates metal and makes it so special and unique. Blackened sludge on the othe rhand is only going to appeal to people who want extremely raw production... who will never be great enough in number to establish a trend rather than a fad. More...

The Berzerker, Australian-based death metal band, internationally renowned as one of the most brutal extreme metal bands performing today, has released a video clip of them performing a cover version of Russian pop song song, "All The Things She Said" by T.A.T.U. The #1 track was a ridiculously catchy song whose popularity was largely due to their status as underage lesbians and the film clip of the two girls kissing in school uniform in the rain.
The Berzerker's accompanying film clip had to up the ante on the original, featuring two of Australia’s best known fetish models getting raunchy and inspiring two schoolgirl viewers to explore their own sexuality, and each other, in their child-like bedroom.
You can watch the The Berzerker's video for "All The Things She Said" below. More...

UK metallers, Mithras, have announced the addition of their new vocalist/bassist, Sam Bean (The Senseless/ex-The Berzerker), to their line up.
Founder/guitarist Leon Macey issues the following comments, "Since joining Sam in his band The Senseless back in 2007 (as drummer) we've been working together closely on the new The Senseless record 'The Floating World', so I know we gel extremely well musically and have a similar attitude and vision. This combined with the huge amount of band/live/industry experience he has from all the work he's done with The Berzerker makes him the perfect guy to take the role and help lift Mithras to the next level. We're going to get gig ready asap then simultaneously start slaying audiences while working some more on the new Mithras record." More...

Swedish metallers, Visceral Bleeding, have issued the following update regarding the departure of guitarist Martin "Germ" Bermhedens:
"Due to Martin "Germ" Bermhedens busy schedule with The Berzerker we've decided to part ways. We wish him the best of luck with The Berzerker and all of his other projects." More...

Fed up with the music industry, THE BERZERKER has decided to stay independent and release their latest album, "The Reawakening," themselves on their own label, Berzerker Industries.
Band mainman Luke Kenny had this to say: “I’m fucking sick to death of fans NOT knowing where there money is going when they buy a CD, Steve (Albini) has the right idea, to expose this shit once and for all. I mean, a percentage of your money is going to the fucking retarded bitch sitting behind the counter at the HMV/Tower, wherever she is, on the phone painting her fucking nails and couldn’t even tell you where the ‘metal section’ is if you asked her. So what if we sell less records being totally independent? At least NOW with Berzerker Industries, if people want to support us by NOT downloading our music, they can.”
Luke Kenny, lead singer of the Australian act The Berzerker, has claimed that he was assaulted by a bouncer at The Underworld club in Camden, North London, last wednesday (2nd July). Apparantly, the incident happened as Kenney was returning to the stage after singing in the crowd. He is currently considering whether or not to press charges. Footage of his reaction after the incident can be viewed below: More...
Death To Music has provided yet another free download in ZARDONIC's "Chaotic Serenity" EP (DTM019). "Chaotic Serenity" is a collection of his early works, heavily influenced (and featuring) elements of raw black and death metal soldered to a raw backbone of experimental DnB industrial.
Originally recorded for aborted projects Burning Without Consumption and Digital Insanity, these aural assaults have been dug out of the hard-drive and "offered up on a bloody plate of download destruction."
"...I have decided to compile all of them into this conceptual piece of work for the Death To Music community, specially after the great response that the track 'Chaotic Serenity' (after which the EP is named) got from its release on the 'F**k Em All Vol. 2' compilation. For the DTM crowd, this is my gift to you. Harsh metal guitars and arrangements that were meant to sound raw, because raw was the language they wanted to speak, and raw is the language of the rebels. F**k the industry, f**k the system. f**k the church. f**k everything!..."
You can now download this EP by visiting deathtomusic.com. If you havent signed up with them before, send a blank email to email@example.com.
