The Banner Covering Killing Joke

Good Fight Music announces a special treat to kick off 2016: coming up on January 8th, the label will release "Love Like Blood," a limited cassette single from New Jersey vets The Banner.

The single features The Banner's new cover of Killing Joke's 1985 anthem, "Love Like Blood," and Norfolk, Virginia industrial act hERETICS iN tHE lAB's new remix of "Send Me Down," a song off The Banner's latest album, "Greying."

1) Love Like Blood (Killing Joke)
2) Send Me Down (hERETICS iN tHE lAB remix)

Followers of The Banner will not be surprised to find the "shadowy, metallic hardcore antiheroes" (in the words of Decibel Magazine) paying respects to Killing Joke. Standouts of the Jersey scene since the early '00s, The Banner was ahead of the curve in bringing goth/industrial elements into hardcore. More...

The Banner Streaming "Unbaptized"

The Banner today offers up another track off forthcoming new album, "Greying." Stream "Unbaptized" below, thanks to Alternative Press.

The Banner frontman JSS comments: "'Unbaptized' just barely didn't make it onto our previous album, 2008's 'Frailty.' After simmering for a long time I chopped off the second half and tried to crank in as legit a thrash part as I could muster, to counterbalance the ignorance of the beginning. The lyrics are a fairly common theme for me, more or less about my growing feeling of disconnection with the places that I once felt most at ease."

The Banner's third full-length album (and first in six years), "Greying" hits stores December 9th on Good Fight Music. The album was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Will Putney (Body Count, The Acacia Strain) and Randy Leboeuf. See the band live on these dates:

The Banner Posts "Send Me Down" Video

The Banner has teamed with Revolver Magazine to present newest single and video, "Send Me Down," off the upcoming third album, "Greying," due out December 9th on Good Fight Music. Check out the clip below.

Just in time for Halloween, the industrial-powered lament of "Send Me Down" shows off the New Jersey band's full range, from somber to venomous.

The Banner arrived with a bang in the early '00s, forcing dark theatrics into metallic hardcore. Ahead of its time, The Banner helped pave the way for the massive resurgence of goth influence within the scene.

The Banner's third full-length, and first in over six years, "Greying" was engineered, mixed and mastered by Will Putney (The Acacia Strain, Body Count) and Randy Leboeuf. See the band live on these dates:

The Banner Reveals New Album Details

"Greying," The Banner's first new full-length in six years, is set for a December 9th release on Good Fight Music. "Greying" was engineered, mixed, and mastered by Will Putney (The Acacia Strain, Body Count, Stray from the Path) and Randy Leboeuf.

The cover art (available below) was handled by The Banner founder and front man JSS. The track listing is as follows:

1. The Dying of the Light
2. Circle of Salt
3. Crippling Despair
4. Sunlight
5. Unbaptized
6. A Quiet Corner
7. Send Me Down
9. She Upon the Black Wolf
10. Bones to Dust
11. Sunset

JSS states: "The writing for Greying began shortly after the recording of Frailty and continued right up until we entered the studio. My motivation was to get a seamless fusion of the sounds and ideas of Each Breath Haunted and Frailty, as much as possible, then expand on that focused vein as best as I was able. Fortunately we linked up with Randy in the studio and he made this all possible in a way I believe other engineers wouldn't have been able to. I'm very grateful to have had Randy and Will working with me on this album. I think that Greying is without question the most 'The Banner' album I've done." More...

The Banner To Release New Album

New Jersey outfit The Banner injected morbid, gothic vibes into metallic hardcore in the early '00s – along with bands like Ink and Dagger, The Banner turned a whole new generation onto a tradition set forth by The Misfits in the '80s.

Now, well over a decade since its formation, The Banner returns, vital as ever, ready to push things forward once again.

The connection between The Banner and Good Fight Music runs deep: Good Fight boss Carl Severson released The Banner's previous two albums – 2005's "Each Breath Haunted" and 2008's "Frailty" – on his former label, Ferret Music.

Good Fight will release The Banner's fourth full-length album, "Greying," in the upcoming months. The band's first album in more than five years, "Greying" was produced by Will Putney (The Acacia Strain, Poison the Well), who was also the producer of 2008's "Frailty."

With the final touches now being put on "Greying," today The Banner reveals one new song off the album: "Crippling Despair." Stream the track below.

The Banner founder and frontman JSS states: "Greying is a mix of Each Breath Haunted's darkness and Frailty's heaviness. To bring you this album we mobilized the same team that brought you Frailty: producer Will Putney and label boss Carl Severson. Greying is very much a continuation of what we built in the last decade, pushing everything forward to create the best music we've ever made." More...

The Banner Singer Forms Wolve

The Banner frontman Joey Southside has announced the launch of a new band called Wolve. Here's what he had to say about it:

"So as some of you obviously know already, I have started a new band. Well it's been 'started' for awhile now but I've just recently started recording demos. The band is called Wolve and the first record/demo is being written by me and Will Putney (same dudes who wrote Frailty).

"No, The Banner isn't breaking up, we're probably not going to be touring anymore, but we're not breaking up (we'll have a new EP out middle of next year). Basically on Frailty there was a lot of more melodic and more out there stuff than the previous records, and though I think it's perfect for the record Frailty, it's definitely not something I want to do on another TB record. So The Banner will be going back to basics and Wolve will be where all the melody and more progressive shit goes."

A demo track from the group (sans vocals) can be heard here.

The Banner Reveal New Album Title

New Jersey’s THE BANNER have posted the following update:

“Ok so for all the people who continue to ask about the new record it will in fact be called ‘Frailty.’ Writing has begun in earnest resulting in so far 3 new songs ‘The Hellbound Heart,’ ‘LeechBath,’ and a third as yet unnamed. This new record will, in the tradition of TB records, be slightly different from Each Breath Haunted and the other 3 records previous. This record is definitely taking from the previous records and fusing them more than we did with Each Breath Haunted.

THIS RECORD WILL BE HEAVIER THAN THE OTHER RECORDS, we’re telling you now! haha we know alot of you love the original EP (Posthumous) shit. we loved it also, so we have infact decided that this record we’re going to a, what we feel a heavier tuning for the songs. Will we still be playing the songs from the other records? Of course, we’re upgrading them slightly so everything sounds awesome and can be played together when we eventually start playing these live.

I know how this might sound to some of you and how it might be scary to some of you but if youre a fan of the band…please trust us. Anyway this is where we’ll be putting updates on the record front from now on so if youre interested please check back. Also well start playing the new songs soon.”

The Banner Working On New Album

The Banner broke up in August. Then in November they announced that they weren't done just yet, with plans to play additional shows. Now they've revealed that they are currently writing material for a new full-length. Here's what the band has to say about the upcoming release:

"Writing has begun on the new Banner record to be released through Ferret as well as the new Wolvez [group side-project] record to be released through... probably Ferret? I think it's a contract thing, who knows. Ferret rules. No time frame yet for actually recording, but we'll be posting demos as soon as they're available and let me just say... hard. The new Banner record is looking up to be our darkest, hardest, fastest record yet."

The Banner Plan More Shows w/ Founding Member

After breaking up in August, and confirming a final show for December 20th, New Jersey hardcore outfit The Banner has announced plans to tour again in early-2007 with original/founding member Garrett back in the line-up. Here's a statement from vocalist Joey Southside:

"We will be doing limited touring on the East Coast/Northeast tentatively starting in January. The plan right now is to only do limited touring and depending on how it goes we may extend it if there's a demand. Quite frankly I just dont have it out of my system yet and need to get my ass back in the van... To our Western friends, the Northeast/East Coast stuff is all we have planned for right now. We'll get back out to Cali and such at least once before it's over over."

The Banner Calls It Quits

New Jersey's The Banner has disbanded. Formed in 1999, the band has released albums with Blackout! Records and most recently, Ferret Music. Vocalist Joey Southside has issued the following statement:

"The saddest thing I've ever had to do is announce that The Banner is no more. After 7 years of playing, writing and recording i've decided its best for the band to simply put it to bed. Some of the members have decided that the full-time touring lifestyle just isn't for them and I cant' blame them. The Banner has gone through a zillion member changes since the its inception but the current line-up was what I most felt "The Banner" should be, with perhaps the inclusion of Garrett. I'd like to thank all the bands we played with, especially Folly, Modern Life Is War, GETREAL, Himsa, Death By Stereo, the Breakout, Mermaid In A Manhole, My Chemical Romance, The Sleeping, Burn the Tyrant, Senses Fail, Ensign, Shattered Realm and god only knows who else, I'm not thinking too clearly right now as I'm quite shitfaced. I'm reasonably sure Chris, Mike and Ian are all going back to school and I'll be continuing doing the comic books and concentrate on my new band Wolvez. Anyway, again thank you to all the kids and people who have supported us over the years, all the people who have gotten us shows or fed us or let us sleep at their homes on tour. Thanks to Blackout, Warmachine and Ferret records for all their help and thanks to our families and girlfriends for putting up with the bullshit. I personally want to thank all the Jersey kids who have stuck by us from the begining. I appreciate it more than you'll ever know or I could ever tell you with words. Your support was a lot more than I deserved."
