Latest The Black Dahlia Murder News
Below is our complete The Black Dahlia Murder news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Break out your tissue box and keep those cyanide tablets handy (just in case): you’re in for a bummed-out train wreck of an episode this week on the MetalUnderground.com Official Podcast. Stay tuned to the end, however, to see if your opinions match up with those of your silver-tongued co-hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure).
Before we begin, yet another reminder of our upcoming ticket giveaways at Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. First comes The Black Dahlia Murder (supported by Suicide Silence) on Monday, October 13th, followed by Attila (supported by Crown The Empire and Like Moths To Flames) on Friday, November 14th.
If interested, please fire an email to email@example.com with one (or both) of the headlining bands in the subject heading and your full name (matching your ID) in the message body.
Additionally, if you’re an unsigned metal band with a kickass song you’d like to hear featured as our weekly intro music, we’d like to hear it! Please contact us via the email address above.
Now, time to get depressed. Mike bids solemn farewell to an underrated talent in the global metal underground: Tobias Graf, founding drummer of German melodic/symphonic death metal group Deadlock, who this week passed away for undisclosed reasons at the young age of 35. Graf left the band in April of this year, but played on all releases since the band’s 1997 formation.
Next… here come the Thought Police! We wish it were a joke, but a Kentucky youth has indeed been arrested and charged with domestic terrorism threats… for posting Exodus lyrics on Facebook. The Bay Area thrashers’ 2010 album “Exhibit B: The Human Condition” featured a song titled “Class Dismissed: A Hate Primer,” which told of the 2007 Virginia Tech shooting spree through the eyes of the deranged killer. The absurdity of this incident speaks for itself, but that doesn't stop us from commenting on it.
We all saw this coming over the course of the week, but still, it seemed to happen so damn fast. In the ultimate case of déjà vu, frontman Mark Hunter of Chimaira has been completely deserted by his bandmates en masse for the second time in three years. This time, he’s decided to throw in the towel, effectively putting an end to fifteen years and seven albums of cutting-edge American metal. Stay tuned for our thoughts on the matter.
Finally, we react to Swedish metal veterans In Flames’ new studio album “Siren Charms,” due for a September 9th release and currently streaming. Considering our devotion to this band through thick and thin over the years, our frustration in discussing this lackluster and disappointing new release is palpable, and it ain’t pretty.
If some of this stuff is too “scene” for you, or if you live nowhere near Florida, then share this information on social media for your friends. The further we spread it, the more ticket giveaways we can launch elsewhere, perhaps for YOUR favorite bands. You elitist prick.
Otherwise, for those able and willing to make it, fire an email to firstname.lastname@example.org with one (or both) of the headlining bands in the subject heading, and your full name matching your ID in the message body.
Now, on to this week’s topics. Co-hosts Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) and Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) discuss some disappointing news: the impending hiatus of long-running Massachusetts metal crew Shadows Fall. After seven albums and over a full decade of worldwide touring, various factors have compelled the guys to hang up the spurs indefinitely.
Next, a happier subject, if murder, cruelty, and icepick lobotomies are your idea of a good time. If not, then you can always ignore the outrageous lyrics and enjoy the musical brutality, because death metal classics Cannibal Corpse are returning with a new album, “A Skeletal Domain,” the band’s thirteenth. Mike received an early promo and is eager to tell you all about it.
Finally - and you probably knew this was coming, so shut your trap and listen if you don’t like it; you might learn something - we discuss the latest Slipknot news (actual news, not gossip). The Iowan progenitors of the “American New Wave” of heavy metal have at long last revealed all pertinent details of their upcoming album “5: The Gray Chapter,” as well as unleashed a new single, “The Devil In I.” Stay tuned for our variety of personal reactions to these developments.
We may be the Metalunderground.com Official Podcast - the operative word being “metal” - but that doesn't mean we’re above shamelessly promoting some “FedoraCore” when it suits our interests.
That’s right, boys and girls: this week we’re launching another ticket giveaway for Revolution Live in Fort Lauderdale, FL. In addition to The Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence and friends on Monday, October 13th, we invite you to check out Attila, Crown The Empire, and Like Moths To Flames on Friday, November 14th.
If interested, submit an email to email@example.com with one (or both) of the headlining bands in the subject heading, and your full name matching your ID in the email body. Listen in with bated breath as co-host Kevin Perez (n0thinghead) fills in the rest of the details.
Next, co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) offers a gushing sneak-peek reaction to one of the year’s most anticipated metal albums: “The Singularity (Phase I - Neohumanity)” by Swedish death-prog powerhouse Scar Symmetry. He’s convinced it will monopolize many a year-end favorites list, and urges fans (Kevin included) who may have lost interest after the loss of former superhuman vocalist Christian Alvestam to reconsider. The latter incarnation of Scar Symmetry has truly come into its own. The first of a planned concept trilogy, “Neohumanity” drops in North America on Tuesday, October 14th.
Finally, in another round of his “Miami Metalhead Problems” saga, Kevin relates an epic personal concert misadventure involving the bands Erra and Reflections. We’ve all had them, we’ve all struggled and bled to make it to see our favorite bands, and every now and then, something unique and memorable occurs along the way that we wouldn’t have traded for all the well-timed, well-organized shows in the world.
After the success of our DevilDriver giveaway in June, we’re inviting South Florida residents (or any able/willing to attend) to see The Black Dahlia Murder, Suicide Silence, Chelsea Grin, and Alterbeast on Monday, October 13th. If interested, email firstname.lastname@example.org with subject heading “Black Dahlia Murder,” and submit your full name matching your ID.
Even if you can’t make it, lend us a hand and share our giveaway far and wide on social media; the more popular it gets, the more we can spread this experiment nationwide and to a venue near you.
Next, co-host Mike Smith (OverkillExposure) weighs in with a rather prickly and pessimistic insight on the longterm effects of Internet culture on the music/metal scene, specifically the downsides (and there are always downsides).
The downloading issue has been talked to death, but Mike sees some mass psychological implications at work here as well, and they do not bode well for the future. His hypothesis: due to the increased platform the Web offers to egoistic, insecure, and often talent-starved amateurs, there will never again emerge a tremendously popular, universally loved rock ’n’ roll band, much less a metal band. Listen in to hear his full thoughts on the matter.
Finally, Kevin offers a detailed review of the new self-titled album from Darkest Hour, which boasts a new rhythm section and a potentially divisive new direction in style - although Kevin puts up a passionate and justified defense on the album’s behalf. Do you agree?

The line to get into Mohawk was split in half between minors and adults. Although The Black Dahlia Murder has more than a decade under its 30-something beltline, the band is still a hot commodity among young listeners. The older demographic spawned by Carcass and Gorguts wasn't always welcoming to the 'core kids and their icons, TBDM; however, in terms of attendance, Decibel Magazine was onto something when they squeezed together, and I do mean squeeze, these disparate bands.
Baltimore, Maryland upstarts, Noisem provided a jolting dose of death/thrash. Featuring tracks culled from their recent "Agony Defied" album, the A389 recording artist played fast and spurned on oncoming body-mass wall. Standing on the first balcony, I often found myself checking out the bang bodies below. Long-hairs and spiked dos came together, often in a brutal-yet-loving fashion.
As they continued to prepare the Scumship for war, the unstoppable force known as Gwar has announced two Australian headline shows in addition to appearances at this year's Soundwave Festival.
The first show is set for Wednesday February 26th in Sydney at The Factory Theater and the second show is set for the following night Thursday February 27th in Melbourne at 170 Russell.
Supporting the Scumdogs on these two dates of devastation are Amon Amarth, Satyricon, and The Black Dahlia Murder.
"The sickest, heaviest, most beastly bands of this years Soundwave will be joining forces to create the most hideous noise ever," said notorious asshole Oderus Urungus, lead singer of Gwar and despoiler of the planet Remulak. "It's an amazing line-up and I fully expect to see mounds of flaming corpses where once stood smiling fans."
