It’s that time of year again- birds are chirping, trees are blossoming, the city’s Crowne Plaza Hotel is bombarded with numerous metal parties. And, of course, the local businesses in Worcester, MA hand out flyers that read “Dear metalheads (!!!), if you’re wondering where to get drunk tonight, come to our pub”.
It’s the New England Metal Fest weekend, which was held on April 22-24 and welcomed fans from all corners of the US, Canada, Puerto Rico and even UK. Probably the biggest and best festival on this side of the Atlantic. At least this year’s. I was giddy with excitement about this event since January and I lived to share my observations and opinions. More...

Ozzfest — the king of festivals — triumphantly returns this summer to celebrate its hard-earned 10th anniversary with the staggering line-up of BLACK SABBATH, IRON MAIDEN, ROB ZOMBIE, KILLSWITCH ENGAGE, SHADOWS FALL and BLACK LABEL SOCIETY. The summer's premier concert festival — which has propelled many of today’s rock bands to superstardom while paying close attention to its discerning fans — will roll out July 15 in Boston and visit 26 cities by the time it reaches West Palm Beach on September 4. The Hot Topic Second Stage will be headlined by ZOMBIE and feature a preview of rock's rising stars, including AS I LAY DYING, MASTODON, THE HAUNTED, IN FLAMES, ARCH ENEMY, THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER, BURY YOUR DEAD, SOILWORK, TRIVIUM, IT DIES TODAY, A DOZEN FURIES and more.
"I'm most proud of the success of Ozzfest," says founder Sharon Osbourne. "Everyone said it would never happen and 10 years later we are still in business." In fact, 125 bands, 238 shows and over 4 million fans later, the all-day extravaganza of music and deranged merriment is roaring louder than ever. History in the making, 2005 marks the first time metal legends BLACK SABBATH and IRON MAIDEN have toured together and also represents IRON MAIDEN's first Ozzfest appearance.
IRON MAIDEN singer Bruce Dickinson said, "This summer's MAIDEN touring is based on the recent 'Early Days' DVD and all the songs we do at Ozzfest will be from our first four albums — 'Iron Maiden', 'Killers', 'Number of the Beast' and 'Piece of Mind'. We will be bringing over our full European show, naturally including as special guest Eddie in various appropriate guises!! The stage sets, production and backdrops will recreate aspects of the shows on the tours around those albums — only bigger… much bigger!!! We don’t know if anyone has done anything like this before but we think it’s something the fans will really appreciate both in the choice of songs and in the production values."

While The Black Dahlia Murder are now seven songs into the writing process for their upcoming new album "Miasma", the re-release of their "A Cold Blooded Epitaph" has seen some snags and as such has been delayed for the foreseeable future. THE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER's Trevor has checked in with a huge update. You can read it, in all its glory, below:
"Hey kids, we've got a brand new site for that ass. It's been a long time in the works, but lucky enough for us we've found ourselves a kick ass webmaster by the name of Mike. You can contact him with any ideas/concerns for making this shit better. We should finally be up to date, as Dave and I are finally on the goddamn Internet again.
For those of you who are wondering what blast master Cory Grady has been up to, he has now joined the ranks of the world's most dangerous band, Premonitions of War. Stop by their site and show Cory some love (http://www.premonitionsofwar.com).
We just got back from a tour of Europe with Marduk, Napalm Death, Fintroll, Vader, and Belphegor. It was a pretty interesting experience. Big horns to anyone that came out to show BDM love.
Just before we head into the studio, we have five days of support for the almighty Suffocation. Cattle Decapitation and Behemoth will also be thrashin'. Look to the shows section for more details.
As for now, we're recording a new demo to show to Metal Blade and Andreas Magnusson. It will only exist on the lost form of Mini Answering Machine cassettes, so you goons won't be able to see what we are up to until its time to strike. The new album, Miasma, is now halfway written, and completely destroys anything we've done prior. We are very proud of the new songs, and are sure that our fans will not be disappointed. The direction of the new shit is noticeably heavier and far more intricate than our previous work. The album will be recorded in a dark scary basement of Richmond, VA, beginning March 10th with Andreas Magnusson (of Scarlet fame) at the helm. The album will then be mixed in April with the infamous Eric Rachel at Trax East studios, NJ. If all goes as planned Miasma will be available in the early summer months. We'll be out with King Diamond and Nile before the disc drops, kicking off another year of perpetual touring by your favorite road warriors.
The heavily delayed "A Cold Blooded Epitaph" is now off at the pressing plant, and should be available in about two months. I apologize to those of you who have been waiting for this deluxe release. It has been
Re-mastered by Scott Hull, and features live bonus tracks (which will be the worlds first recorded glimpse at The Zach Dahlia Murder) and a live video from a killer set at The Palladium in Worchester, MA. The brilliant Mark Riddick, who finally captured the essence of The Black Dahlia Murder in visual form, handled the cover art. We are 200% satisfied with the end result, and are eager to have them in our dirty paws. We'd like to thank Guy at Blackmarket for being so patient and helpful with the project. We are excited to be a part of such an amazing young label.
For those of your who are artistically inclined and looking to make a few bucks, we are in dire need of some shirt designs. Send us your resumes. Serious inquiries only (firstname.lastname@example.org)
We'll be working on the site constantly, and should have a web store up in a bit, as well as some new photos.
HE BLACK DAHLIA MURDER have set "Miasma" as the title of their new album, tentatively due next summer via Metal Blade Records.
"The new album is now halfway written, and completely destroys anything we've done prior," vocalist Trevor Strnad writes. "We are very proud of the new songs, and are sure that our fans will not be disappointed. If all goes as planned 'Miasma' will be available in the early summer months. Birmingham’s Napalm Death wrapped up the 15-day European ‘X-Mass Festivals’ tour with Marduk, Finntroll, The Black Dahlia Murder, and Belphegor Sunday Dec. 19th. Vocalist Barney Greenway sends everyone from the tour and the band’s loyal fans this holiday message:
What a great way to finish the year in the company of some dear bands and people out in Europe on the X-mass Fests. Napalm now has some amusing new friends in the shape of the young-and-chunky Black Dahlia Murder, and the guys from Finntroll are such darlings, I would take them home to meet my parents...
I hope everyone has a good holiday. I'll be having a good one in the non-religious sense and just enjoying the fact that people-who-would-be-assholes at least attempt to not be assholes for at least, ooh, five days or so. I raise a glass to all you guys and gals who have supported Napalm during this special year, and hope that life gets better for those infinitely less fortunate than me. I hope that the forthcoming year exposes and takes to task those who suppress and take away human rights in the civil and bodily sense. Truly, fuck 'em.
Hopefully you guys will have heard a few select chunks about our forthcoming album "The Code Is Red...Long Live the Code" (street date: April 22). What more can I tell you? Well, it's a ripper - fast, progressive and a nice bit of art-noise. With Jello Biafra, Jamey Jasta and Jeff Carcass along for the ride, we hope it'll take your heads off - or at least get you thinking with them. Cheers.
The band will be performing two shows in England in January 2005, for information click here. Century Media released Napalm Death’s record label debut "Leaders Not Followers: Part 2" in Oct. 2004. They followed its release with an extensive North American tour supporting Cannibal Corpse. Look for the band’s new album "The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code" in stores April 22, 2005.
More details unfold about Napalm Death's special show to present their forthcoming album “The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code” live in Bochum:
UK’s grind-legend will be supported by labelmates Heaven Shall Burn and Maroon. Furthermore, Century Media’s new p&d partner Alveran Records added Belgium’s Do Or Die and Germany’s End Of Days to the billing. Presale for the tickets has already begun, so be sure you get your ticket for EUR 12,00!
Jan. 22 Bochum, D @ Matrix
Both dates will see special shows by Napalm Death focussing on “The Code Is Red… Long Live The Code” long before it’s release in April 2005.
After the release of their highly acclaimed covers album “Leaders Not Followers: Part 2,” Napalm Death are currently thrashing Europe’s stages on the X-Mass Festivals with Finntroll, Marduk, Vader, The Black Dahlia Murder and Belphegor: More...

Behemoth have been confirmed for the upcoming King Diamond/Nile/Black Dahlia Murder tour happening in April of 2005. The tour follows their January/February co headlining run with Suffocation. Here's what Nergal (guitars/vocals) had to say:
“Hey f(r)iends! We're touring Europe right now with Incantation and Krisuin in support of our brand new record, Demigod. The new songs have been sounding great live and we can't wait to play them for our U.S. fans! It seems we will be conquering North America a few times next year; I have just gotten the confirmation for the King Diamond/Nile tour. All I have to say is this is my dream line up!
