Today Is The Day has unchained a manic, animated video for the track "Heathen," culled from the group's debut Southern Lord LP, "Animal Mother." Check it out below, courtesy of Bloody-Disgusting.
"Animal Mother" brings forth some of the most incomprehensibly violent anthems from Today Is The Day in recent times, a personal exorcism of inner demons swirling through the depths of cult leader, Steve Austin's, mind deployed through a broad range of tactics.
Issues Austin of the "Heathen" video's inception: "I was on tour last fall and stayed at my long time friend, Neil Barrett's house. While I was there he showed some of the video work he had been doing and my mind was blown. Neil and Marco Morales are super creative dudes and Neil has been into TITD since the band began. Together, they make some really psychedelic mind expanding films; it's really cool to finally get to work on something together."
The video's creators themselves offer: "We've been in the dungeon at the Austin Enterprise compound for several weeks with no food, water or sleep creating this visual nightmare. We're just happy it's over. Steve Austin is a genius and a madman. We hope you enjoy the fruits of our suffering." More...
Today Is The Day hereby announces the band's return to widespread live performances this Spring, this week announcing a month-long U.S. tour to take place in April and May.
Following several months off the road recuperating consequent to a brutal highway accident in late November, which destroyed the band's van, merch, equipment, and seriously injured some of the members, Today Is The Day is now ready to take some aural savagery back to nearly thirty stages across America.
Additional stateside tour actions from Today Is The Day will be announced in the coming weeks, in addition to an upcoming European tour surrounding the band's set at this year's massive Temples Festival in Bristol. More...
Today Is The Day was in a tour van accident this weekend, and has now cancelled upcoming tour dates. The band comments:
"At 9:30 PM last night while driving to New York to meet up with our drummer, our van was struck by an out of control car that had collided with another car.
"My dear friend and TITD merch man Trevor and I had just left my home in Orland, Maine after a 4 day Thanksgiving break in between tours. We had just completed 50 + Shows since October 7th, both Headlining and Main Support for EyeHateGod. Our band was set to play 23 more shows starting tonight in Pittsburgh. We had been driving for 4 hours and had just crossed into Massachusetts.
"Suddenly, Trevor said 'Look Out!' I looked towards the passenger window and saw a car heading in a straight line for the side of our 15 passenger van. The car was within 3 feet when he saw it and it nailed us perfectly in the side spinning us around 180 Degrees, followed by flipping the van UPSIDE DOWN. Trevor and I were thrown super hard inside the van with glass bursting all around us, hot transmission fluid pouring down and sparks flying everywhere as the Van was sliding backwards and upside down the Middle of I-495 interstate. I truly felt at that moment that I was going to die.
"When we came to a stop, I held on tight and waited thinking the next thing that would happen would be a car finishing us off and slamming right into us. I screamed to Trevor to get out of the van immediately for fear that it would catch on fire and explode. We crawled through the driver and passenger windows worried that oncoming traffic would hit us. Once out, we made our way to the guard rail. Disoriented and in shock I was emotionless.
"In one terrible second:
#1 New van was completely Destroyed.
#2 Equipment was Destroyed.
#3 Merch was destroyed
#4 Tour cancelled.
"EMT's arrived and fire dept. They took me and Trevor by ambulance to the hospital. Cat scans, X-rays and morphine was given. My left arm was cut up by broken glass and the left side of my body was badly beaten and bashed on. We stayed in the hospital for 8 Hours and were finally released early this morning. When we got out the room we had reserved was gone and we spent another hour trying to find shelter and a place to regroup.
"It goes without saying that it was truly a miracle that he and I were not killed yesterday. Fuck Black Friday and all that it stands for. People had been driving wildly going from store to store to save $10 bucks in the name of xmas. The capper was that the 2 cars that had collided were full of liars that would not admit they were the ones who hit us even though the police can paint match who did.
"I am beaten and bruised and recovering. With the help of my friend Aarne Victorine that plays in UXO with me and his friend, we were able to pry open the back door with a winch to be able to get our broken stuff out of the van a few hours ago and rent a U-Haul to be able to get what's left home. The first single from Today Is The Day's tenth LP, "Animal Mother," has been released via Metal Injection through a disturbing new video for the ninth track, "Masada," which can be seen below.
Produced by visual architect David Hall of Handshake Inc., the visual accompaniment for "Masada" delivers the track in a vibrant, high-contrast collage of footage, combining imagery born of nature's itinerary and humanity's inherently sadistic and perverse ways. Cult leaders summon more flies to the fire while children learn to handle automatic weapons. Brains decay and maggots feast upon the flesh of mammals, while a twisted, obfuscated plot unfolds amidst several unnamed humans in this disgustingly satisfying slab of cinematic madness.
Issued director David Hall of the video: "I'm always honored when Steve Austin asks me to create a video for Today Is The Day. Early on we decided that 'Masada' should be the track people hear first from the new album because it really represents the album in terms of rock and diversity and TITD insanity. Steve wanted a video that would infect minds and reflect the madness of the music. I ate some meatloaf and went on a vision quest and was shown a couple in a desert being corrupted by their dysfunction and desire to control one another. So this is what I made."
Southern Lord will release "Animal Mother" on LP, CD, and digital download in North America on October 14th, as the band's first venture for the label. More...
As Today Is The Day prepares to assault the masses with tenth full-length album, "Animal Mother," Southern Lord today discloses the LP's track listing and a visual trailer featuring the first precursor of the hostile and haunting audio the album promises to unleash.
The band's lineup features the rhythm section of bassist Sean Conkling (Regression, Burn Your Halo, Sprawl) and drummer Jeff Lohrber (Enabler, ex-Harlots), fronted by cult leader, founding guitarist/vocalist Steve Austin. The "Animal Mother" recording sessions took place at Austin Enterprises in the deeply wooded Maine wilderness this brutal past Winter, the material fully produced and mastered by Austin.
The cover art for Animal Mother was created by Samantha Muljat. A video trailer produced by David Hall of Handshake Inc. can also be seen below. More...
Southern Lord Recordings is beyond stoked to broadcast that Today Is The Day has joined with the label's roster for the release of a tenth studio album later this year. The label comments:
"Early this year, Today Is The Day's newest lineup was announced, as the foundation of the then unnamed album was taking shape. Guitarist/vocalist Steve Austin welcomed Sean Conkling (Regression, Burn Your Halo, Sprawl) on bass as well as returning member Jeff Lohrber (Enabler, ex-Harlots), Lohrber having previously handled touring drum duties for TITD many times in the past.
"Conkling and Lohrber tracked most of their sessions in December and January at the founding frontman's own Recording and Mastering Studio in Maine. Since, Austin has been painstakingly layering guitars, vocals and more, and as the final sessions for Today Is The Day's tenth studio full-length will be taking place in June, the band happily unveils the name of the impending LP, as Animal Mother."
"Sometimes things just dial-in and align perfectly," Steve Austin stated on signing with Southern Lord. "Myself and Today Is The Day are extremely excited about working with Southern Lord Records and Greg Anderson. To me they have the right idea about the kind of music they release; heavy, real, experimental, integrity-driven music is what the label represents to me. Today Is The Day's Animal Mother LP on Southern Lord in 2014... I don't think I could ask for anything more!"
Added Southern Lord owner Greg Anderson on the union, "Southern Lord is deeply honored to be working with Today Is The Day Steve Austin has been a long time force in the underground and we're stoked to now be a small part of the TITD legacy." More...
Today Is The Day has confirmed a new lineup, as two new trusted assassins have been engaged to forge the band's tenth studio full-length, which is fully written and already coming to fruition.
Now joining Today Is The Day's founding guitarist/vocalist, Steve Austin, Jeff Lohrber is laying down this album's percussive attack. Formerly also a touring drummer for Trap Them, Shai Hulud and Dead To Fall, in addition to providing vocals/guitar for Harlots, Lohrber currently pummels society as lead vocalist, guitarist, songwriter and recording drummer in Milwaukee, Wisconsin's Enabler.
Sean Conkling has been inducted to handle bass guitar. Conkling has supplied bass, vocals and countless other musical/engineering contributions to a plethora of acts including Jermflux, Regression, Nobody, Burn Your Halo, Sidra, Sprawl and others, and since 2005 has been an engineer at Burning Blade Studio in Tempe, Arizona. As "Force My Hand," the debut recording from Psalm Zero, is set for release next week, Invisible Oranges is now hosting a listen to the EP's B-side excursion: the outfit's eclectic rendition of "Willpower" by Today Is The Day. Give the song a listen below. The following press release was also issued about the stream:
"While the original track boasts TITD's monumental, visionary style of tormented metallic extremism, Psalm Zero rebuilds this now twenty year-old classic in a whole new way, interpreting the song as an experimental neo-folk dirge, with delicate acoustic guitars, orchestral percussion, synth drones, and Medieval vocal harmonies; virtually portraying the track as a whole new work of their own.
"NYC-based duo Psalm Zero aligns Andrew Hock, of Castevet, and Charlie Looker, of recently-disbanded Extra Life, in a new experimental rock venture, pulsing with a vibrant blend of genres and style into a mesmerizing style of their own. The duo has confirmed that Profound Lore will be releasing their debut LP in Spring 2014, but the material on the Force My Hand 7" is exclusive to this release. Force My Hand will be available through Looker's own Last Things Records on November 19th.
"Psalm Zero will perform at their record release show for the 7" Brooklyn on November 22nd alongside Kayo Dot and Vaura, followed by a gig in Queens on December 5th supporting avant-noise technicians, Gnaw."
