Spanish progressive outfit Obsidian Kingdom today releases the first new track from upcoming album, "A Year With No Summer." Check out "Away / Absent" below.
Regarding the new track, Obsidian Kingdom comments: "What if artificial paradises could last forever? 'Away / Absent' is a song about not being here, but not being quite there yet, either. It's a frozen frame in a huge leap to the void, as if one could endlessly cherish the joys of letting go, without having to hit the ground, ever. But this time, your daily dose of evasive drugs is going to taste a little bit more sour. Prepare yourself for 'A Year With No Summer.'"

We kindly ask you to give a warm welcome to our new, young and talented members: Seerborn Ape Tot on guitars and Om Rex Orale on bass."
To celebrate the album announcement, the band have released a video showcasing a special "Drone Set" performance featuring Brunetto on "BCNmp7. Metal·lúrgies." This clip was recorded at Centre de Cultura Contemporània in Barcelona on June 4th, and can be viewed below.
The band comments: "Aside from our studio production, we combine our 'rock band' aspect with the Obsidian Kingdom Drone Set effort; an ephemeral live project focused on impromptu and sonic experimentation. Through active listening and an exclusively live approach, we amalgamate drone, noise, ambient music and video projections to display a unique and surrounding audiovisual live experience."
The band continues, "In these sessions, which sporadically take place in little venues or art galleries, the performers rethink their connection with their instruments, deepening their sonic possibilities through an unorthodox use, while supported by the heavy application of pedal effects. All of this is organically entwined with the work of a video artist, who arranges and screens video fragments from the other side of the stage, and becomes one more member of our avant-garde jam sessions." Spain’s progressive metal outfit Obsidian Kingdom has released a cover of the Nirvana classic "Breed." The cover was recorded at the request of Spain's leading hard rock publication RockZone and can be heard below. This version of "Breed" also appears on the compilation "Bipolar Sessions #2," which commemorates this year's Record Store Day.
Regarding the track, Obsidian Kingdom comments: "As so many kids from the nineties, one of the things that made us break into playing an instrument was receiving a mixtape from the weird guy at school that featured the very best of alternative rock, from Alice In Chain to Tool and from Marilyn Manson to Soundgarden, which had us desperately falling in love with rock music.
"When RockZone offered us to participate in the second edition of their 'Bipolar Sessions', we felt like those kids again, and hurried back to our garage to remove the dust from our old distortion pedals.
"We have always had a huge penchant for Nirvana, especially in their noisiest, and we have chosen 'Breed' because it is the perfect pop song with all the punk rage and teenage angst that we loved so deep back in the day." More...

The organizers of the Bloodstock Festival have checked in with the following update about confirming more bands for the 2014 edition:
"Things are hotting up at Bloodstock HQ and even more bands are unveiled for 2014!! Joining the main stage bill are the newly renamed, Entombed A.D. After having to change their name from just ‘Entombed’, LG Petrov and his fellow band members are once again ready to let the music do the talking after a year of internal struggles. They release the highly anticipated new album ‘Back to the Front’ on 4th August via Century Media and are eager to get back on the road.
"Getting the heads banging on the Sophie stage on Thursday are British trad metalheads Monument, and bringing their own brand of theatrical madness and extreme metal are former ‘Metal 2 The Masses’ winners, Gethika. Bringing an international flavour on Sunday are death/thrash metallers Krow, who hail all the way from Brazil. Fancy something a little different? Then check out 16-yr old blues star in the making Aaron Keylock, also performing on Sunday’s Sophie stage.
"Not content with that, Bloodstock can also reveal six killer bands for the Jagermeister stage! Grab a couple Jagerbombs and come headbang to Undersmile and King Creature on Friday, plus Massive Wagons and a special acoustic set from Orphaned Land on Saturday. If you’re still standing come Sunday, be sure to catch Rabid Bitch of the North and The Heretic Order."
With Cult of Luna & God Seedout together on European Tour, Indie Recordings approached select artists about remixing tracks from the two bands. Indie Recordings comments:
"The results have been astonishing. From dark drone to heavy beats, to a club mix of God Seed and even a trip to the Cult of Luna circus... We’ve had what can only be described as an eclectic mix come back to us.
"Over the next couple of weeks, we’ll be releasing tracks on to the Indie Recordings Youtube page. To start things off, we have two Cult of Luna remixes, and one God Seed. ‘Passing Through’ has been experimented on by Petrels, Poland’s Whalesong have given us their spin on ‘In Awe Of’, whilst God Seed have had ‘Lit’ re-worked by rising Spanish progressive metal act Obsidian Kingdom." Season of Mist is proud announce the signing of Spain’s progressive metal outfit Obsidian Kingdom.
Founded in Barcelona in 2005, the band self-released the concept album "Mantiis – An Agony in Fourteen Bites" in 2012 (which is still available for streaming over here). Obsidian Kingdom comments:
"Obsidian Kingdom is no longer an independent band. We have come to this hard resolution having one and only one thing in mind: to keep making music for you. Because we want you to know about us if you don't already. We want to be able to play in your town or very near. We want you to spin our records without having to pay inflated shipping prices. And we would rather invest our limited and valuable human resources in making music, not in bureaucracy.
“...From now on, we will be working side by side to bring our music to your ears in the best and most efficient way possible, starting with the long-time demanded re-issue of our debut album, ‘Mantiis’, which will happen in the autumn. In the meantime, we are already writing more music for you to bask in... Wish us luck on this brave step, and we will repay you a thousand-fold!”
In addition to the forthcoming new album, Season of Mist will reissue Obsidian Kingdom's "Mantiis" later this year. More...
