Below is our complete Brutal Truth news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Italy's Cripple Bastards has been confirmed for the upcoming Obscene Extreme Festival. The following press release was also issued about the appearance:
"You could say this is a 'grindcore hat-trick' as it is the third OEF appearance in 2014 for Italian hate mob Cripple Bastards after headlining the insane Obscene Extreme Asia in Tokyo and Obscene Extreme Australia in Melbourne earlier this year. But if you really want to see the Bastards play at home, then Obscene Extreme Trutnov is the grounds for the final massacre. They have been blasting the shit on stage since the festival's birth back in 1999 and raised the most infernal stage diving pits for countless times through the years that followed.
"26 years after their conception Cripple Bastards still hold the banner high as Italy's most hostile and aggressive grind/hardcore unit around. With one foot firmly in the past and all the vicious savagery of manic fast 80's hardcore extremity, Cripple Bastards are also charging forwards. With bloodshot eyes and a rabid 'get out and bite them' attitude, this band are ready to introduce their brand new 2014 full length 'Nero In Metastasi' on Relapse Records and they will consolidate their ongoing mission of bringing nihilistic, fuck-you-all, grinding hatred to every corner of an underserving mankind. Cripple Bastards will also be introducing for the first time ever on Trutnov's Battlefield their 5 piece line-up with new axeman Wild Vitto on second guitar which will only enhance their wall of hate/grind fury!"
The Obscene Extreme festival will be taking place from July 16th - 20th, with ticket information available at this location. Now the festival has announced several new additions to the lineup, including Brutal Truth and Morgoth. The festival organizers comment:
"Few bands represent Obscene Extreme as fully as US grind legends Brutal Truth – they've weathered break-ups and line-up changes, but never once have they halted in their mission to keep pushing the bleeding edge of grindcore.
"Never complacent, each steamroller of Brutal Truth album has furthered their sound and moved the goalposts for the whole damn genre in the process. Now bassist, founding member and extreme metal champion Dan Lilker approaches his 50th birthday, he's stepping back from music and his baby - Brutal Truth - will be no more.
"When the band returned in 2006, it was Obscene Extreme the following year that welcomed them back as very personification of the festival. Now, seven years later we'll bid them farewell with one final performance. Obscene Extreme 2014 – this promises to be unforgettable!!!
"Another band that will be stepping out onto the Obscene Extreme stage this year will be fathers of the German death metal scene, the mighty Morgoth. Originally split in 1998 after only three albums - the coffin-lid hammering of 1991's ‘Cursed,’ 1993's forward-thinking ‘Odium’ and their most divisive albums ever, 1995's post-punk ‘Feel Sorry For The Fanatic.’ More...
Brutal Truth has teamed up with Terrorizer.com to release a new music video for "The Stroy," which can be seen below.
The track comes off Brutal Truth's split with Bastard Noise titled "The Axiom of Post Inhumanity." The entire split can be heard at this location.
In related news, Dan Lilker recently announced he would be retiring from music later this year. Read the full statement right here.
Dan Lilker of Brutal Truth has checked in with the following announcement about retiring from music:
"I regret to inform Brutal Truth fans that as of October 18th, 2014, I will be retiring from being a full time recording and touring musician.
"That date is my 50th birthday, so I chose it symbolically as a significant milestone to make such a weighty decision. As a lot of you know, I've been an active member of the metal scene since the early 80s with the thrash metal bands I've been in before the formation of Brutal Truth in 1990, and I'm simply just tired of the rigors of touring mostly.
"Unlike some of my peers from the 80's who went on to sell millions of records I have always been drawn to extreme underground metal. I don't care about staying in 5 star hotels and having a big cushy tour bus but I am getting tired of squeezing into a van for 8 hours after all these years on the road. I have always played what I believe in and that is been priority #1, but the time has come to have a little bit more stability in my life.
"Brutal Truth will still be active on the touring front until mid-October and will aim to do as much as we can in the next 9 months or so. After that, I will still have creative output with my 2 local bands in Rochester NY, Nokturnal Hellstorm and Blurring and do the occasional project tour, but yes, as of mid-October, Brutal Truth will no longer exist.
"I do realize that will be an extreme disappointment to all the grind freaks out there that have supported this band so rabidly all these years, and your enthusiasm will always have a special place in my heart, but I've made my decision, and I hope everyone can respect that." More...
Brutal Truth released a new music video for the track "Lottery," which appeared on the 2011 album "End Time." The footage was filmed between 2009 and 2011 and was directed by David Hall and edited by VHS Skillz.

Legendary grindcore godfathers Brutal Truth (covered in our Sunday Old School column earlier this year) and abrasive-noise terrorists Bastard Noise have released their new split, "The Axiom of Post Inhumanity."
Combining over four decades of grinding noise dominance, "The Axiom of Post Inhumanity" is a long overdue pairing of extreme music veterans that is sure to push the limits of even the most masochistic listeners. Check it out in the player below.
Brutal Truth drummer Rich Hoak commented on the collaboration: "Working with Bastard Noise has been an honor! together we have created The Axiom of Post Inhumanity with the specific purpose of frying your brain, so please listen LOUD!!" More...
It’s been a while since Sunday Old School has looked at a truly extreme band, and music doesn’t come much more extreme than grindcore. The grindcore movement was doing well by the late eighties in Europe, but America was yet to produce a proper, standout band in the genre. Perhaps the first band to do just that, was Brutal Truth. Brutal Truth was formed in 1990 by bassist/vocalist, Danny Lilker as a side project while he focused his efforts on the thrash metal outfit, Nuclear Assault. He was joined in the endeavour by guitarist, Brent "Gurn" McCarty and drummer, Scott Lewis and it wasn’t long before the trio recorded their first demo, "The Birth of Ignorance." They soon went from three members to four, when they recruited music journalist, Kevin Sharp to become their new vocalist, allowing Lilker to focus his attention on playing bass. They performed when possible, eventually attracting the attention of grindcore home, Earache Records, who offered the band a record deal, as well as Lilker’s escape route from Nuclear Assault, who he had grown distant from.
Brutal Truth recorded their first album, "Extreme Conditions Demand Extreme Responses," which was hailed immediately as an instant classic in the still burgeoning grindcore genre and in 2009, was voted the best American grindcore album of all time by Terrorizer magazine. The album spawned music videos for the songs, "Ill Neglect" and "Collateral Damage," the latter earning the group a spot in the Guiness Book of World Records for the shortest music video ever, clocking in at only four seconds. They soon hit the road to support the record, perhaps most notably when they teamed up with three of the biggest names in British extreme metal, Carcass, Cathedral and grindcore godfathers, Napalm Death for a North American tour, before heading to Europe with Fear Factory. Veteran bassist Dan Lilker (Brutal Truth, Nuclear Assault, Nokturnal Hellstorm, etc.) has signed on to compose original music for "Seed to Son," a sci-fi horror short in pre-production in Rochester, NY.
The filmmakers are currently raising funds for the short via kickstarter, where you can find more information about the film and see a teaser featuring music by Lilker. Check it out right here.
Lilker has previously worked with director Mark A. Zuniga on the quirky short Red Balloon 2, available at YouTube.
This years edition of the the Eindhoven Metal Meeting will take place from December 12th - 14th, 2013.

Brutal Truth's Danny Lilker comments: "Brutal Truth is psyched to head back over to Europe this summer to grind! We hope to see all the grindfreaks coming out to witness the mayhem. SMOKE GRIND SLEEP."
Dan O'hare adds, "I can't wait to get out and play brand new songs from our upcoming release for all the sick grindfreaks in Europe. This will be my first summer festival tour as the new guitarist in Brutal Truth and I can barely contain my inner grind animal! Grind until you're dead!" More...

Red Fang drew my attention first during day two. Contrary to their name, Red Fang’s bite energized rather than paralyzed the crowd. Although they came from the land of fog and towering trees of Oregon, their riffs were the size of Texas and filled with a gritty quality not unlike the festival’s dusty, trodden paths. Their catchy rhythms, guitar solos and drum fills grabbed the modestly sized audience and injected groove into their stoned bones. With prior SXSW appearances, Red Fang has become a well-recognized force in Austin’s festival circuit. Make sure to check these guys out on their touring supporting the “Murder the Mountains” album.

Earache Records is celebrating 25 years of bringing extreme metal to the masses and, as part of the celebrations, has released the "World's Shortest Album," striking fear into the hearts of radio DJs everywhere.
Earache is no stranger to world records, having previously claimed two official Guinness World Records, for the world's shortest single with Napalm Death's "You Suffer," as well as the world's shortest music video with Brutal Truth's "Collateral Damage."
Now, Earache is taking the idea of "shorter, faster, louder" to the extreme, with the shortest, fastest and loudest album around. "Earache: World's Shortest Album" celebrates brevity as an art form, featuring 13 extreme, straight-to-the-point tracks totalling just 87 seconds, smashing the previous 121-second record held by Canadian dance group Chromeo.
The attempt at setting the new record for the world's shortest album has been rejected by Guinness however, which no longer recognizes "world's shortest" records, explaining:
"The nature of competing to make something the 'shortest' by its very nature trivialises the activity being carried out, and Guinness World Records has been forced to reject many claims of this kind. As such, we have been forced to cease listing records for the shortest song, shortest poem and indeed the shortest concert."
"Earache: World's Shortest Album" is still available to the public however, and is out now on iTunes at this location.
The full track listing and times for the album are as follows:
01. Napalm Death - You Suffer (00:04)
02. Napalm Death - Dead (00:05)
03. Napalm Death - Your Achievement (00:06)
04. Wormrot - False Grind Sodomy (00:04)

06. Brutal Truth - Collateral Damage (00:04)
07. A.C. - Howard Wulkan's Bald (00:09)
08. Lawnmower Deth - Be Scene Not Heard (00:07)
09. Painkiller - Trailmarker (00:08)
10. Brutal Truth - Blockhead (00:07)
11. Morbid Angel - Bil Ur-Sag #2 Lava (00:06)
12. A.C. - Windchimes Are Gay (00:10)
13. Insect Warfare - Street Sweeper (00:13)
Total running time - 01:27
