Mayhem To Use Euronymous Hologram

In recent years, it's becoming increasingly (and frighteningly) common for dead musicians to be brought back to the stage using holographic technology, with the likes of Michael Jackson, Tupac Shakur, Elvis Presley and even Ronnie James Dio all being seen by live audiences again. While the use of these projections a great deal of debate and controversy, mostly owing to the ethics of using the likenesses of musicians who died before they could give any consent to such use of their image and the argument that the holograms cheapen both the memories of the musicians and the live experience overall, it is nevertheless becoming a more common sight. It has now been revealed that the latest band to use the technology will be Norwegian black metal legends, Mayhem, who will use it to recreate the image of deceased guitarist Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth.

Mayhem will be hitting the road this year to perform their classic debut full length, "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" in full and to mark the occassion, the group has teamed up with Eyellusion, who worked on the Ronnie James Dio hologram to bring back Euronymous and give fans who never got the chance to see him in person the opportunity to do so. No word has been given yet on whether his image will be used for one song or for the whole performance, but it's sure to be a decision which is divisive among fans.

Aarseth was infamously killed in 1993 at the hands of Burzum mastermind and former bandmate, Varg Vikernes, who performed bass on the "De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas" record. He was given the maximum Norwegian prison sentence of 21 years, but released in 2009. More...

Mayhem Gearing Up For Spring Tour

New Bands Added To Brutal Assault 2017

A bunch of new bands have been announced for the 22nd edition of Brutal Assault, which takes place this year in Fortress Josefov near Jaromer in the Czech Republic on August 9-12. Returning once more are heavy-weights Hatebreed, who last graced the fortress stages in 2012 and 2013. This is reportedly in response to festival-goers requests for more hardcore in the line-up.

The Dillinger Escape Plan will be including the festival in their series of farewell dates. It looks like the band's appearance here won't be affected by the bus crash that caused some European tour dates to be cancelled last month. Dillinger last played Brutal Assault in 2015.

Thrash veterans Overkill, touring in support of their recently released 18th studio album, "The Grinding Wheel", have also been added. No stranger to the fortress stage, Overkill last appeared at the festival in 2013.

Helsinki's Wintersun are newcomers to Brutal Assault, appearing for the first time. Can we assume they will be playing material from their long-awaited third album? There's no official word as yet. More...

Varg Vikernes Discusses Famous Black Metal Moments

Varg Vikernes, the founder of one man black metal band Burzum and former bassist for Mayhem, has posted a series of videos online discussing some of the famous moments in Norwegian black metal history, including his relationship with Øystein "Euronymous" Aarseth, the Mayhem guitarist who he fatally stabbed in 1993. You can watch some of the videos below.

Vikernes remains one of metal musics most infamous characters, having also been convicted of arson in 1994 for the burning of three churches and more recently being arrested with his wife in 2013 on suspicion of plotting acts of terrorism in France, though no charges were filed against them. Watain Re-Releasing Album, Announces Tour Dates

Watain's latest album "The Wild Hunt" will be available again August 19th, 2016 on black and clear vinyl, with pre-orders up at this location. The return of "The Wild Hunt" also follows the announcement of select appearances across Europe. Watain comments:

"We can now announce that in December this year, we will be performing 'Casus Luciferi' in its entirety on a few select dates across Europe. These concerts will be done together with Mayhem, performing the entire 'De Mysteriis Dom Sathanas.'

"The reason why there are only 6 dates is that these venues and promoters were the only ones across all Europe who had the guts to take on this tour package. All honour to them. Meanwhile, those that were too scared and morally subdued to accept the nature of the tour will keep on rotting in fear. For they know well that the law and order they are so desperately trying to uphold by boycotting Black Metal, is about to collapse.

"Join us in December and witness the sacred horrors of the past come to life yet again... Black Metal Chaos awaits!"

Temples Festival Cancelled

Temples Festival - which was due to take place in early June and feature such outfits as Mayhem, Agoraphobic Nosebleed, and Carcass - has now officially been cancelled. This news arrives after several bands pulled out over the weekend, citing a lack of flight deposits, visas, and other pre-arrangements never being met. Festival organizer Francis Mace just posted this message online:

"After an arduous 48 hours of uncertainty, and with deepest reluctance we have been forced to cancel Temples Festival 2016. At the beginning of last week, the organisation we had onboard to finance the event pulled their funding, and with limited access to advance ticket sales and no sponsors to back us we have been unable to source the funding required to cover the overheads which would allow Temples Festival to go ahead.

"Following Temples 2015, we were left with a sizeable debt and as opposed to dissolving the company and declaring bankruptcy - I decided to take on the debts personally and subsequently pay off all our creditors in installments as quickly as possible, this meant bands, staff and contractors were all paid late - and it's had a crippling effect on both my professional and personal life as a whole - truth be told, I made a series of bad business decisions and dealt with the situation very poorly - which I take full accountability for.

"I've spent the past week trying to gain access to the funds we need to make this year work and avoid the problems we encountered following last year's event, with our financiers pulling their involvement - it's been an uphill battle, which I've fought to the best of my abilities - and unfortunately, have been defeated.

"Over the past weekend, I've been attempting to produce the festival's continuation on a 'scaled down' level so we can offer something for those of you who have purchased tickets, accommodation, transport etc and allow the bands who are touring, UK based etc - unfortunately this morning it became clear that even if we were to proceed as such, we'd be left with another huge debt and therefore unable to pay the bands, staff, venue, contractors and a number of other crucial overheads the festival relies on - thus repeating the mistakes that were made last year.
