Mainman Nergal was only 14 when he formed Behemoth back in 1991. The three- piece quickly made a name for themselves in the black metal community with their second demo “From The Pagan Wastelands” (1993) and mini album “And The Forests Dream Eternally” (1994).
Behemoth’s first LP “Sventevith (Storming Near The Baltic)” came out through the Polish underground label Pagan Rec. in 1995 and gained a positive response which resulted in a new record deal with the German label Solistitium Rec. Their second album “Grom” saw the light of day in 1996 and remains their most controversial release to date, mainly because of the incorporation of female vocals and acoustic guitars.
The third release “Pandemonic Incantations” saw the addition of the very talented drummer Inferno and marked the band’s vastly improved musicianship and production. In the fall of 1998, after an extensive European tour, Behemoth signed to the Italian label Avantgarde Music. With the highly successful “Satanica” (1999), the group ventured into the realm of death metal by replacing the raspy black metal screeches with a forceful growl. Thanks to this remarkable release and the attention it gained, Behemoth secured two European tours with Deicide and Satyricon.
In the years to follow, Behemoth maintained the same pace by releasing a consistent string of intense album, which further combined their early black metal influences with the ferocity and technicality of death metal. With “Thelema.6” (2000) the band continued to expand musically and lyrically. Vocalist and lyricist Nergal was aided by poet Krzysztof Azarewicz in his efforts to achieve a sophisticated and intimate obscurity. “Thelema.6” was the first of Behemoth’s albums to be released in U.S. through Olympic Records.
Touring opportunities with bands like Nile, Morbid Angel and Carpathian Forest began to pour in. In 2001 the band made its debut at the most prestigious European summer festival- Wacken.
“Zos Kia Cultus (Here And Beyond)” was released in 2003 and furthermore established the band’s undeniable potential and creativity. Rave reviews started to flow in and Behemoth made its North American live debut at the New Jersey March Metal Meltdown festival. The several nationwide tours that followed ( with bands like Deicide, Amon Amarth, Danzig and Six Feet Under) and the release of the Conjugation EP, all helped make 2003 a breakthrough year for Behemoth.
In 2004 they released a DVD called Crush.Fukk.Create, followed by their latest studio album “Demigod” ( featuring guest appearance by Nile’s Karl Sanders). Again, it received great praise in the media. In addition, the group’s first video “Conquer All” debuted on Headbandger’s Ball.
In early 2005, Behemoth embarked on an extensive North American tour with Suffocation, King Diamond and Nile.

Nergal, the prolific front man of blackened death metal act Behemoth, has announced the band will begin rehearsals for a new album in September, following performances at several European festivals over the next two weeks. The new release will follow the band's latest album "Evangelion" (reviewed here).
Additionally, the band will embark on a tour of Eastern Europe in the fall. More tour dates and news regarding brand new music from Behemoth will be released as it becomes available. Nergal elaborates on the upcoming tour dates: "This is what I call the perfect ending of a touring cycle. Finally, we are arriving in Eastern European and South American shores this fall. I know it's been ages…and I know there've been legions waiting for us…on behalf of the band I must say though: the wait is over; we are coming back rejuvenated and hungry! See you all very soon!"
Nergal is also proud to announce that he will be endorsing Demon Energy Drink. As in every project Nergal approaches, this will be on his own terms: a portion of the proceeds will benefit the DKMS foundation. Nergal, frontman of Polish blackened death metal kings Behemoth, has been named as one of the most valuable Polish stars by Forbes Magazine.
Commented Nergal: "That's quite unexpected I must say. Excuse my ignorance but to be honest I've never been a Forbes reader and I'm not sure what this is all about… I reckon it's quite an awarding affair though. Anyway, I really hope I'm the first extreme metal musician that has ever appeared in the pages of this elite magazine. Am I?;)" More...
And then it was Saturday! Day two of Tuska again started a bit earlier then the hungover and tired festival goers may have wished but the drowsy vibes quickly vanished (though not the rain clouds) as the day started on a much folkier note. Tuska Day Two promised another heavy day of good music, good people and the summer vibe that has Finns and Non Finn's coming from all over to partake in the festivities.
First up today was Estonian folk metallers Metsätöll! I have been excited to see these guys for years now and it was with bated breath that I entered the photo pit this morning! And here I will be a bit blasphemous and state that Lauri (Varulven) Õunapuu is quite simply a god of folk instruments. Throughout the set he seamlessly switched from bagpipes, to flutes, and numerous stringed Estonian folk instruments. Each one was expertly played and gave the performance a mysterious lovely quality. The Estonian language is quite obviously similar to Finnish, and in fact singer Markus "Rabapagan" Teeäär wows the predominantly Finnish crowd (and presumably wins their hearts) by speaking to them in Finnish. It needs to be said: his accent is much better than mine. Metsätöll is one of those folk metal bands that clearly love what they do, and though the music is fun and foly as ever, there is a lovely mysterious undertone that lends one’s mind to thinking thoughts of dark forests and legends of old. This year's Summer Breeze festival will be taking place from August 16th - 18th, with full details available at the festival's website here. The organizers of Summer Breeze have now issued the following announcement about confirming new bands:
"Since the release of their amazing breakthrough album 'Inwards', Dew-Scented have been at the forefront of European thrash metal. Since then, the cool bunch led by frontman Leif Jensen have been producing fantastic albums full of unstoppable riff power and overwhelming intensity at nicely regular intervals, cementing the band's excellent reputation time and again. In 2012, Dew-Scented aim at kick-starting their career with an entirely new line-up – with the exception of band boss Leif – and the fantastic new album 'Icarus', and are gearing up to shatter the Summer Breeze Open Air into small pieces. We are stoked to welcome the indestructible machine called Dew-Scented at our festival once more. Get thrashed!
"When Agrypnie played the Summer Breeze festival in 2008 for the first and only time so far, they were booked as consolation for all those who were mourning the recent disbanding of Nocte Obducta. Four years, one studio album and one EP later, the Hessians have made a career for themselves, having now reached the same level as the aforementioned group. Their new studio album is still being recorded as we speak, but their last EP 'Asche' was already an announcement for big things to come in the realm of post black metal. Expressive, multi-faceted, melancholic, dynamic – all these attributes fit Agrypnie like a glove and are underlined by the fact that their songs don't ever become predictable or interchangable. One of the most exciting bands our scene has to offer nowadays."

The Bloodstock 2012 organizers have issued the following announcement about confirming more bands to appear at this year's festival:
"After last week’s headliner announcement - where we revealed the mighty Machine Head will be letting fans pick the songs at their first ever UK festival headline slot - Bloodstock and Machine Head are now ready to take requests.
"If you head to Facebook you can now submit your suggestions via a poll. Each fan can pick five songs from Machine Head’s incredible debut 'Burn My Eyes,' and the five most popular tracks will be performed at Catton Hall this summer.
"Bloodstock can also reveal a further three acts for the Sophie Stage and one for the Ronnie James Dio Stage. Headlining the Sophie Stage on Thursday night, raucous rockers Viking Skull bring their loud and proud metal to Bloodstock, alongside Belfast metalheads Sweet Savage. Hotly tipped newcomers Death Valley Knights show why in just a few short months their powerful metal has earned them a much coverted spot at Britain’s most metal festival, and finally Canada’s Kobra & The Lotus make their Bloodstock debut opening the Ronnie James Dio Stage on Sunday." Things are intense and it feels great to be raging across Europe with renewed show and refreshed set list! Unfortunately, we were kind of cursed when it came to weather forecasts on this European trek. One show in Austria had to be cancelled due to a massive thunderstorm. Nevertheless, we kept on conquering. Eight shows completed. A perfect warm up before summer. Hail to everyone who was there to support us!"

The 2012 edition of the Bloodstock Open Air festival will take place this coming August 9th - 12th, and the organizers of the festival have now issued the following statement about confirming Machine Head:
"It is with tremendous excitement that we can now reveal our final headliner to be Oakland metal titans Machine Head, who will make their first ever UK festival headlining appearance on Saturday, August 11th on the RONNIE JAMES DIO main stage.
"Machine Head first graced UK shores in the wake of their landmark debut album 'Burn My Eyes' in 1994 as main support to Slayer. Fan reaction to Machine Head’s signature brand of crushing metal was so intense that the band would return immediately afterward to headline their own sold-out shows at many of the same venues, launching a massive swell of passionate fan support that continues to this day.
"Seven albums, a Grammy nomination and countless tours later, UK fans continue to champion and support Machine Head as feverishly as they did at those first shows, and this year, at Bloodstock Open Air 2012, they will be given the unprecedented opportunity to influence Machine Head’s set list!
"Commemorating the 20th anniversary of Machine Head’s first-ever live performance at their roadie Mike Scum's getting-evicted-from-his-house party - for which they performed five songs – Bloodstocker ticket holders will be given the opportunity to vote for the five 'Burn My Eyes' songs they most want to hear Machine Head play during their headline set Saturday night, with the five that receive the most votes included in the set list (details to follow)!
"Anyone that’s ever witnessed Machine Head live will attest to the fact that the raw, unbridled energy of their performance is unlike anything else you’ll ever see. With countless legendary UK performances already on record, and a first-ever fan-influenced setlist, it goes without saying that Machine Head’s headline set at Bloodstock Open Air 2012 is going to go down in metal history as one of those festival performances that you’ll forever be glad you got to see. Keep an eye on the official Bloodstock Facebook page for your chance to vote on the songs YOU want to hear."

The organizers of the upcoming Summer Breeze 2012 festival have issued the following update about confirming new acts:
"Italy is not exactly a hotbed for dark doom metal. Fortunately enough, there are always exceptions to confirm the rule. With the three albums they have released so far, The Foreshadowing have provided a master class in gloom and doom. Hailing from Rome, the band prove that it is indeed possible to write great atmospheric songs without falling into excessive pathos and kitsch. Especially singer Marco Benevento's clear, ear-piercing vocals take the group's material to a level which is only populated by bands such as Katatonia, My Dying Bride, early Anathema and even Opeth. Don't miss this black pearl of darkness! You will hardly experience anything bigger, darker and more epic at Summer Breeze 2012!
"Breakdowns aren't exactly the most innovative element in metal nowadays... However, if you use them with such conviction and vehemence as Bleed From Within, even the most athletically challenged of metalheads should soon mutate into pit fighter number one. The UK band have two albums out which should appeal to fans of As I Lay Dying, Bring Me The Horizon and Parkway Drive, while at times Bleed From Within are even more melodic than the aforementioned bands, only to dive into a brutal breakdown the very next second. All fans of metalcore and deathcore should highlight this band in their personal running order, as this is the perfect stuff for all of them!"
