Set to kick off their headlining North American tour this week with country mates Omnium Gatherum, Finnish melodic death metal act Insomnium has announced a live replacement for vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevanen, who was forced off the tour due to a family emergency. The band previously announced a replacement for guitarist Ville Friman in the form of Sanctuary's Nick Cordle.
The band posted: "Dear fans, last Saturday we got unexpected phone call while driving to Gothoom Festival in Slovakia. Unfortunately, serious illness had taken place in Niilo's close family. We all felt devastated but somehow we were still able to pull through the show. However, due to these unpredicted circumstances, there was no way Niilo could have been able to leave his family behind and attend the upcoming US tour. Family is the most important thing and always comes first.
"We were left with two equally bad options. To cancel the tour altogether or to go and try to find replacement for Niilo in couple of days notice. We had already invested considerable amount of money on this tour and whole tour personnel had made commitments to take time off from other work to do this tour. At the same time we felt really bad about thinking about financial side of things while one of our best friends was going through terrible family tragedy. After series of emergency meetings we decided to go and look if there would be anyone that could help us out. All things considered, 50% original line up would be better than no line up at all. We also did not want to let down all the people who had already bought the tickets. Most importantly, we did not want to give up.
"So we went and wrote to all our friends on the state side and asked if anybody knew anyone. The response and the number of people who wanted to help us out overwhelmed us. Several talented individuals were ready to step in with short notice. We are eternally grateful and humbled by this response and it only shows how dedicated and compassionate people in US metal scene are. After numerous encounters we came across Mike Bear (ARTISAN, PROTOTYPE) who will be handling growling and bass duties on this tour." More...
Ready to embark on their first USA headlining tour this August, Finnish melodic death metallers Insomnium have announced a split 7" with Omnium Gatherum, who will be direct support on the trek. This release is "double A-sided" (meaning, each band has their own front-cover side) and contains one track from Insomnium, "Out To The Sea" (which previously appeared on the now sold-out Shadows Of The Dying Sun deluxe CD box-set edition), and one track from Omnium Gatherum, "Skyline" (which will appear on the band's new album due out February 2016). Featuring artwork by Olli-Pekka Lappalainen (who previously created designs for both bands), this tour exclusive 7" is limited to 500 copies and available at all shows while supplies last. See below the track-listing and dates: More...
Finnish melodic death metal act Insomnium announced that Sanctuary guitarist Nick Cordle (ex-Arch Enemy/ex-Arsis) will fill-in as guitarist for Ville Friman on theupcoming North American tour.
The band embarks on the first headlining tour of the U.S. this August. The statement in part reads: "Due to his very busy work schedule, Ville Friman is not able to join the band on this run of dates, but fans can still expect the dual face-melting, guitar hero onslaught of Vanhala & Cordle every night!"
Friman commented: "My sincere apologies for not being able to take part in Insomnium's touring schedule this year. I've tried my best to work my way around work and band and will be doing as many shows as possible. Unfortunately, I won't be able to take part in this run. But worry not, Nick has kindly accepted to step into my shoes and will be shredding his way into your hearts every night. In the meanwhile, I'll be concentrating on coming up with new Insomnium tunes. Hope to see you soon in North America."
Nick Cordle adds: "It'll be an honor and a pleasure to sit in with Insomnium on this run! They're an awesome live band and I'll try to hold up my end of that 'face melting guitar hero onslaught' as promised!"
Kicking off at the Heavy MTL festival on August 9th, the tour also features Omnium Gatherum as direct support. Stay tuned for details about a special tour split 7" with both bands coming soon! More...
After successfully completing an extensive trek with Dark Tranquility in January, Finnish melodic death metallers Insomnium are excited to announce their return to North America this Summer/Fall for their first ever USA headlining tour! Featuring Omnium Gatherum as direct support, the run kicks off at the Heavy MTL Festival on August 9th.
Vocalist/bassist Niilo Sevänen commented: "We are very happy to return to North America so quickly! With each previous tour we have felt that we've clearly gone forward and gained new fans so now it's the right time to bring a full headliner show across the Atlantic Ocean. We are very much looking forward to playing in Heavy MTL festival and that will be an awesome kickstart for the tour. And naturally we are more than happy to be sharing the bus and stage with our fellow Finnish brothers in death metal, the almighty Omnium Gatherum! Killer shows expected every night so get your tickets way in advance. See you all soon!"
Guitarist Markus Vanhala - who will pull double duty this tour - added: "Here's the tour that every melodeathmaniac (except my back & neck) have been waiting for - the double trouble Insomnium Gatherum tour in North America! That's gonna a hell of a ride thru America and nice times with super dudes as both of my brotherhood camps will be staying in the same bus. The last year's Omnium Gatherum North American debut tour was a blast and also a great success, so I'm really happy to come back also with OG and have another round spin of 'Beyond the World tour' beyond Atlantic!"

Finnish melodic death metal band Omnium Gatherum is currently working with high pressure on the follow-up to 2013 album “Beyond.”
The new album is set to be released sometime in 2015, and in the meantime Omnium Gatherum is heading out for the “One Man Army Tour” in March 2015 supporting Ensiferum and Insomnium. The band commetns:
“Omnium Gatherum is happy to announce another European tour in support of the very well received 'Beyond' album, and we’ll be touring extensively in March/April as a part of this very very Finnish metalliUM trek with Ensiferum and Insomnium.
"We’ve already been busy touring Europe, Asia & North America after the release of 'Beyond' but apart from that we’ve had some secret time to forge some new OG anthems in the woods too, so we’re on a good path towards the next album sessions lil’ by lil’. For now it’s 7 songs ready an’ willing, nothing confirmed with the schedules and all yet, but just to say that the great days of next chapter are coming nearer.
"Before that, come to check out these shows and see when i’m sweating in pain playing two gigs per night those 21 gigs in a row as a part of Insomnium Gatherum hysteria!” More...
Omnium Gatherum has issued the following statement about cancelling upcoming Japanese shows:
"With heavy hearts we are sad to announce that due to unfortunate circumstances and betrayal Omnium Gatherum is forced to cancel the upcoming shows in Japan this week.
"We have to be honest about this and tell you that the tour organizer Korean guy Do-Su Kim (also known as Jusin) and Metal Asia Agency was deceiving everyone else in this event and caused this cancellation.
"With the heavy breach of contract Do-Su Kim didn't pay us any of our advance fee that was agreed and supposed to be done even one month ago. But we were still coming to Japan as we really wanted to do these shows and see our fans, but the next thing was that Do-Su Kim 'paid for our flights' and last week we noticed that there's something wrong with the flight reservation too - our flight booking reference number claimed that the flight status is 'cancelled' as they hadn't been paid for. “That’s a killer e-cig; where’d you pick it up?”
Actually, the stranger on the bus doesn’t say that. At least not in English. And judging from his condescending glare from a row up and across the aisle, I’m thinking he doesn’t approve.
I exhale the last puff of vapor toward the ceiling and shrug uncomfortably.
Rachel exchanges a few words with him, nudges me on the shoulder. “He’s definitely not from here - I can’t recognize his accent - but he says you’re not allowed to do that on the bus.”
“If he’s not from here, why’s he lecturing other people on the rules?” I shoot the man a neutral nod. “This stuff isn’t affecting him.” Still, I put it away. Some people, man. Busybodies.
Through my vest pocket, I finger the boxy outline of the pack of Marlboro Reds I bought last night after I caved. Post-Dimmu, our gearing-down at Nikky’s place a few blocks away became a relaxed, languid, drawn-out gab session, leading us to miss the afterparty band, Amorphis. For shame. Harakiri shame.
Instead, we ended up at PRKL, another rock club, well after midnight. After buying the pack and stepping outside to smoke one, I nearly got myself flattened by a passing street tram. That was probably some kind of sign. More...
