A week after releasing the band's first official video for "Going Down," Spider Rockets will hit the road with Saliva in the midwest and the south.
"We haven't been on the road since our runs with Trapt earlier this spring," admits lead singer, Helena Cos; "...but we haven't visited the south in at least a couple of years! So that, along with Saliva being cool enough to share the stage with us is pretty awesome."
Spider Rockets has a new stage show consisting of various backdrops, a smoldering rocket ship, probing searchlight, whips, megaphone, and a mannequin head.
"The rocket ship will be a work in progress, hopefully we won't need to abort any missions!" jokes John Nap, the band's guitarist. "But the real challenge as an opening band has been coming up with staging that won't interfere with the headliner's space; one that is modular enough to adjust from venue to venue, but that also packs light... And I believe we've found it." John refers to a series of self-standing vertical, retractable banners or scrims (neither, really) that can be extended, shortened, and rearranged depending on the size and configuration of the venue's stage. Bassist, Greg Manning, adds: "We just hope we don't end up with a 'Stone Henge' situation!" More...
A creepy red mini-van, counterfeit money, and a warning about "going down" highlight new videos this week. More...
After the band's first foray into video land with "Scream" two years ago, Spider Rockets has now released a video for "Going Down."
The song lyrics play off the sexual and hostile interpretations suggested by the track's title, often walking a very fine line between the two. Singer Helena Cos comments: "I wanted the listeners to make up their own minds which way I'm leaning when I'm singing, 'When you come here you're going down."
The video weaves around vintage black and white footage to add a bit of levity into what is otherwise far from a funny song. This idea was inspired by videos from other legendary rock bands like Ratt's "You're in Love," Iron Maiden's "Run to the Hills," and Metallica's "One."
"We were also on a budget and knew we'd have to fill some frames," admits guitarist John Nap, "and it's amazing how much they were asking us to pay for some other common rights 'free' footage that never made the video, like clips of Betty Boop and Popeye!" More...
New Jersey's Spider Rockets will finally unveil a first official music video for the single "Going Down" this Friday the 13th.
"Going Down" is the follow-up to the group's first foray into the video arena, a combination of production and live clips for the anthem, "Scream." It was the first track recorded for the group's current release "Bitten."
"Going Down" has knocked out some national heavyweights on a number of cage-matches at active rock radio including Five Finger Death Punch, Pennywise and Hellyeah. "It's mind blowing that we could take on those guys and win! And win we did... Over and over it seemed," revels a stunned Helena Cos, the group's lead singer.
The video, produced by film graduate, Jason Nappi, was a zero-budget endeavor. Johnny Nap, the group's lead guitarist, admits, "it started with some real nice guys at an old warehouse in Jersey who let us in as a favor, and a bunch of offbeat common license footage that fit the theme of the song. We didn't want to take ourselves too seriously."
"We heard Van Halen shot 'Jump' for just $400!" sets up drummer, Dan Prestup, "...and we thought, we don't have that kind of money!" laughs bassist, Greg Manning.
Look out for "Going Down" on Friday the 13th of September. October tour dates from the band will also be released next week.
Spider Rockets has officially announced a new addition to the close-knit arachnoid family. Greg Manning has filled a permanent position with the group as bassist and back-up vocalist.
"Greg has been a long time friend of ours and was always a big fan of the band. He's also a seasoned vocalist, so he's able to blend nicely with my voice in harmonies, or pull off grittier leads like the male vocal parts in tracks like 'Gasoline.' And his hair speaks for itself," states lead singer, Helena Cos.
Spider Rockets will show off the new goods when the group debuts Greg (The Mane) Manning supporting Trapt at Monirae's in Pennellville, PA on Friday, February 8th at 8:00 pm. The band supports Trapt again February 10th in Clifton Park, New York, while breaking away Saturday, February 9th for a performance at Downtown Quarterback in Endicott, NY.
The latest Spider Rockets release, "Bitten," was named "Top 10 Hard Rock Album of 2012" by Metal Odyssey. For more details and show information, head over to the band's official website.

Live shows are the backbone of the local music scene, but sometimes they are also host to the drama-laden, the dangerous, and the downright bizarre. Every week we get in touch with rock and metal bands to share their most memorable stories from live shows, and this week Spider Rockets tells a tale that's less brutal than many we've had before, but covers a constant problem at gigs: spilt beer and show-goers who have had a few too many.
We were performing in Berlin, Germany and there was this guy walking on the edge of the pit with a cup of beer. Turns out he was a bit too close to the action because next thing he was on his butt and his cup flew up in the air and he was showered with whatever had been in the cup. He jumped up, all wet, and was looking to go after whoever got him, but no one was paying attention. He was so angry! Later that night, we saw the same guy peeing against the building, so he must have gotten more beer to replace his flying brew.
Spider Rockets wants to be sure that everyone is ready to get "Bitten" with its new album on June 5th. To give the fans a taste of what they can expect on its new album, Spider Rockets is offering 10,000 free downloads of the new single “Scream.” Head over to this location and download your free mp3 now.
