Nervosa To Release New Album In April
Metal heroines Nervosa have announced their new album, "Slave Machine," which will be unleashed on 3rd April 2026 via Napalm Records. Their sixth full-length shows the Brazil-based modern thrash metal band releasing their inner beasts at staggering speed and with formidable emphasis. Having performed at the biggest metal festivals worldwide, from Wacken to Hellfest, and making a lasting impression on fans and critics alike, Nervosa aims to consolidate their standing as genre frontrunners. With founding guitarist Prika Amaral established as their new singer with their previous record, "Jailbreak" (2023), they tear through the scene with the force of a sledgehammer. Along with the announcement, Nervosa released the title track of the upcoming record. You can check out the video for the song below.
"Slave Machine" serves as a perfect first harbinger of the fury the Brazilian group is about to unleash on the world: instantly turning up the speed and showing a slightly different side of the thrash band with a catchy alternative bridge, the crushing track kicks off a new era for Nervosa.
Nervosa comment on new single "Slave Machine": "This song is everything that we want to say and play, many different vocal layers and guitar melodies like a scream to say that we are all part of the ‘Slave Machine.’" More...

Testament Thrashes With Titans In Bristol
Metal fans have always talked about their beloved genre with a sense of belonging and brotherhood. It's something which can sound very corny and many times, doesn't seem to ring true. However, in the world of thrash metal, especially nowadays, there's definitely more truth to this claim than in other areas. Frequently, when a thrash band heads out on tour, they'll bring fellow veterans with them, with Exodus's tour with Exumer and Hirax last year being one such example. This Autumn, Europe will experience a huge display of such camaraderie in the form of "Thrash Of The Titans," co-headlined by Testament and death metal stalwarts Obituary, while also featuring thrash metal flag bearers Destruction and Nervosa on what promises to be one of the tours of the year. Having kicked off in Hanover, the four bands made their way across the Channel to come to Britain, with their first stop being the Beacon, formerly the Colston Hall, in the south western city of Bristol.
Opening the show was Nervosa, marking what I believe to be my sixth time seeing them. Ten years ago, I conducted my first in person interview with their then vocalist Fernanda Lira at their first UK gig supporting Cryptopsy and Brujeria, so in addition to being a fan, I've always had a soft spot for them and have enjoyed seeing them grow as a band. Their latest album, "Jailbreak," showcased perhaps their most focused material yet and few would argue that guitarist Helena Kotina has breathed fire into their sound, helping to really beef up their sound. This was evident for everyone to hear as soon as the band ripped into the opening number, "Seed Of Death," which landed like a gut punch from Tyson Fury.
From then on, the quartet continued to fiercely shake the Beacon awake with more cuts from the aforementioned "Jailbreak" album, including "Behind The Wall" and the title track, which all sounded superb. They're clearly very proud of the record, and rightfully so, but it was nice to hear material from previous albums too, including "Kill The Silence" from "Downfall Of Mankind," and two helpings from "Perpetual Chaos," in the form of the title track and "Venomous." Nervosa seemed to be having a lot of fun and so were the crowd, including a man in full Elmo costume taking part in the pit and crowd surfing. The audience let out a sad groan when vocalist/guitarist Prika Amaral announced that they had one more song left, namely "Endless Ambition," and the band delivered a final sonic assault before ending their set. As I mentioned, I've been following Nervosa since their first album and I daresay that this was the best performance I've seen from them yet. More...

70,000 Tons Of Metal 2024 (Day Two)
Day two of 70,000 Tons Of Metal was an early start, and by early, I mean around noon. The first bands of the day normally start playing around ten in the morning, but only the very hardcore or the still inebriated fans are having metal for breakfast. One of NWOBHM’s elite bands, Tygers of Pan Tang, was the first band on our list that day. They were good, but at this point of their career, they reminded me of your friend’s fathers band playing classic heavy metal at your local bar and grill. Next up was Nervosa. There have been so many line-up changes over the past couple of years, I wasn’t sure who was currently in the band other than Prika Amaral. There were some technical issues at the start of their set, but they were cruising along by their second song.

Tygers of Pan Tang
With our boat cruising through the Atlantic Ocean towards Puerto Plata in the Dominican Republic, it was time to enjoy some of the other things on the Freedom Of The Seas other than just metal. There are several restaurants on board the ship that are not included within the price of admission. You pay extra for these restaurants and you must make reservations right away because the spots are limited. My wife and I made reservations at the Izumi Hibachi (Japanese steakhouse) and at Chops Grill (steakhouse) on back-to-back nights.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with the Windjammer Grill or the main dining room, but sometimes you just want to get away from it all and these restaurants are a good option and a not too terribly expensive option. There is also an Italian restaurant and a Johnny Rockets burger grill to choose from.
For late night eats, the standbys have always been Sorrento’s Pizza and the Promenade Café. However, the Windjammer is now offering late night eats from midnight until 4 am. This wasn’t available in 2020 and was much appreciated by the looks of all the metalheads filling up their plates to refuel in the middle of the night. More...
Nervosa Drummer Announces Departure
Brazilian founded thrash metal outfit Nervosa has announced that they have parted company with drummer Michaela Maydenova. Taking her place behind the kit is former Sinaya live drummer Gabriela Abud. A message from former drummer Maydenova reads as follows:
"At the end of the last year I decided to end my journey with Nervosa and the time has come to announce it publicly. The reason is to provoke myself to experiment more in the musical field. And, of course, I will still be playing drums.
"I was almost one year in the band, had super fun, saw and played many great places and gained a lot of experience for the short amount of time. Met a lot of people and I am thankful to every one of them for their time and energy!
Thank you Prika Amaral, Helena Kotina and Hel Pyre for all the great memories, wish you the best of luck with Nervosa!
"Let's see what 2024 has to offer."
A video message from the band, recounting Naydenova's time with the group as well as the recording of their latest album, "Jailbreak" and the introduction of Abud, can be seen below. More...

Diamond's Mine: The Best Of 2023
Another year over and another one that not many will be looking back on with any sense of fondness when it comes to the state of the world, but it was a pretty good one if one only looks at the metal music. We've seen bands break onto the scene and said goodbye to some favourites such as Kiss, The Agonist, Dark Fortress and Terrorizer (before saying "I thought you left?" to that last one when they announced their return seven months later.) Others announced plans to step away, either temporarily such as Nightwish and Cirith Ungol, other permanently such as Sepultura, Issues and Destrage. While it's sad to see bands go, it's always nice to welcome new names, which leads me nicely to...
Best Newcomer
There was plenty to choose from this year. My personal qualification is a band which released their debut full length album, so Cobra Spell, featuring former Burning Witches and Cypta guitarist Sonia Anubis leading the charge was a strong contender with their brand of 80s flavoured sleaze metal. Speaking of familiar names, Atheist frontman Kelly Shaefer, along with other members of the band brought the world Till The Dirt, whose debut album, "Outside The Spiral" subverted expectations, while fans of death metal will want to seek out Denmark's Plaguemace pretty quickly. Stoner and doom metal had a very strong showing with the likes of High Priest and Auralayer. In fact, it's from this genre that we find this year's winner of the award and appropriately for the roots of the style, it's a Birmingham band.
Margarita Witch Cult
With the kind of name which won't be forgotten in a hurry, the Midlands trio marked the release of their debut album in style, opening the Black Heart in Camden at this year's Desertfest. The album itself is everything fans love about classic, riff based heavy metal, providing plenty to sink one's teeth into such as exciting tempos, catchy choruses ("Diabolical Influence" will stay in your head for days) and as mentioned, some seriously tasty riffs. Stoner, doom, psychedelica and even a little thrash makes this self-titled effort an essential addition to any Sabbath worshiper's collection, while the group should definitely be seen live as soon as you get the opportunity. Nervosa Shares "Elements Of Sin" Video
Following a packed festival season including appearances at the legendary Wacken Open Air, Summer Breeze and many more, boisterous thrashers Nervosa release new single / video "Elements Of Sin." This raging track features some of the album’s most insane guitar work and thundering vocals, and is the third single cut from the fierce upcoming fifth full-length, "Jailbreak," released this Friday, 29th September via Napalm Records. You can view the video below.
Guitarist / vocalist Prika Amaral comments: "’Elements Of Sin’ was one of the first songs that me and Helena composed together. I remember when the riff from the chorus came at the end of 2021 and the lyrics of the chorus came together. We were so excited with this song that we also composed a few parts of the drums at that time. The process of composing of this album was very fun." More...

Nervosa Debuts "Jailbreak" Music Video
Boisterous thrash metal engine Nervosa has revealed a brand-new official music video for the title track cut from their upcoming fierce fifth full-length, "Jailbreak," out September 29, 2023 via Napalm Records! This uncontrollable assault shows the four women on top of their game and attacks with a relentless thrash metal chorus and roaring axe attacks. The song delivers pure brutal power and comes along with a smashing music video that visualizes the energy and strength of this powerhouse quartet.
The upcoming album, "Jailbreak," marks a decisive start of a new era in the band’s history, as it's the first Nervosa album with guitarist and founding member Prika Amaral on vocal duties, and showcasing the mighty new lineup completed by the immensely talented and well experienced Michaela Naydenova on drums, Hel Pyre on bass and Helena Kotina on guitars.
Prika Amaral and Helena Kotina on "Jailbreak":
"This song is the roots of this new album. Helena and I love motorcycles, and wanted to write a song that gives freedom to the people, because this is how we feel when we ride our motorcycles. Also, 'Jailbreak' has one of the biggest guitar duos - people will be surprised when we play this song live. I can't wait for that!" (Prika)
"For me, 'Jailbreak' feels like the most heavy but also pure rock 'n' roll song on the album. It combines fast roaring guitars together with melodies and has this rebellious vibe." (Helena) More...
O.R.k. Debuts "Deadly Bite" Music Video
Controlled chaotic powerhouse, O.R.k. will be appearing at 2Days Prog + 1 Festival in Novara Italy and ahead of their performance the band reveal a new video for "Deadly Bite."
"Deadly Bite" has become a firm live favourite during the band’s recent shows, resonating strongly with the audience. The subject matter deals with the role of the subconscious and its function as a store of dreams and memories, and considering how it can shape everyday, waking life.
The lyrics touch on the subject of ‘waking life dream theory’, whilst also musing on the divide between fate and destiny.
In order for live performances and tours to happen, O.R.k. have previously juggled logistics, conflicting schedules and geographical distances between all four band members. However, this time, due to commitments with TU-NER, Pat Mastelotto, is unable to take his usual place with the band.
O.R.k. are instead very fortunate to be able to confirm that the highly talented Michaela Naydenova, (Nervosa) who appears in the video, will be filling in for the show on September 1st.
The band comments:
“Anyone who has seen Micheala play will know she is a fantastic drummer and we’re looking forward to her stepping into the O.R.k. live energy vortex. By way of introduction, we’d like to share this new video for Deadly Bite from our latest album Screamnasium.”
Regarding the single, Colin Edwin had the following to say:
"Deadly Bite" is easily the most ambiguous song on "Screamnasium" and invites multiple interpretations, and the accompanying video is rich with symbolism: a black car arriving from the unknown, mysterious bite marks as omens, the shock of awakening.... This is a song for anyone who has ever been bitten by a dream or unfulfilled desire, which I'd wager includes most of us” More...

Nervosa To Release New Album In September
Thrash metal frontrunners Nervosa have announced their fierce fifth full-length, "Jailbreak," out September 29, 2023 via Napalm Records! This will be the first Nervosa album with guitarist and founding member Prika Amaral on vocal duties, and showcasing the band’s mighty new lineup completed by the immensely talented and well experienced Michaela Naydenova on drums, Hel Pyre on bass and Helena Kotina on guitars. You can pre-order the album here.
Following the blistering standalone single "Endless Ambition," with "Seed Of Death," Nervosa serves up a second taste of what’s to come. Starting off with a beautiful, epic intro, "Seed Of Death" features philosophical lyrics that explore questions about the never-ending cycle of life, grabbing an omnipresent issue relevant to all of us. Check out the captivating official music video below!
Prika Amaral on the new single and album:
"I'm very happy with the result of this song and our new album. I always wanted to have a song like this but it never happened for different reasons and now we can finally make it happen. Also, we were able to take even more risks and do new things. With two guitars the doors open to a whole new world of possibilities, in fact Nervosa had two guitars in the beginning, but then we decided to go with one guitar for logistical reasons, since it would be easier to move with one less person for tours. Now Nervosa has a much bigger structure that allowed this addition, and we are really enjoying this moment of the band. The process of writing this record was the most fun and brought the most musicality, enriching the band."
Helena Kotina adds:
"I think 'Jailbreak' is Nervosa's most revolutionary record, both musically and lyrically. It was a very challenging process but at the same time very constructive. We were able to take care of every detail until we obtained the best result." More...
