Kingdom Of Sorrow has announced that founding member Kirk Windstein, who is also a founding member of Crowbar and Down, will not be taking part in the band's upcoming tour dates due to health issues. In his place will be Type O Negative guitarist Kenny Kickey.
Kirk Windstein states: "Hey all, Kirk here. Just wanted to let everyone know that I will be taking a much needed break and will not be joining my bros in KOS for Ozzfest. I have entered the AA program and am turning over a new leaf. 25 years of gigging and touring has taken its toll and my drinking is now preventing me from being the healthiest, best player that I can be. It’s been a fun ride, but I’m ready to tackle this sober and look forward to being at the top of my game with all of my projects! I am happy to say that Kenny Hickey will once again be filling my spot for these 8 shows. Thanks Kenny, I love you bro!!! Thanks to everyone for their support. All my best, Kirk Windstein."
Jamey Jasta adds: "The road is no place for Kirk right now. He has begun to address his problems so he can lead a happy and healthy life and continue to rock with Down, CROWBAR and Kingdom Of Sorrow. I only want the best for him and I feel like sitting this tour out is a step in the right path."
In a recent interview with MetalGeek, Crowbar leader Kirk Windstein, who is also the guitarist for Down and Kingdom Of Sorrow, talked about the forthcoming new Crowbar album and how the band is approaching it. An excerpt from the interview reads as follows:
Q: So what can you tell us about the new Crowbar record?
A: "Heavy (laughs)! What we have is really, really good, I think people will really enjoy it. When we come back to the states we will put it together. I told the guys ‘Let’s take a few more weeks even if it means that we can’t get it out this year’ – because it is too important of a record for us to rush it. It’s been this long since the last one so what the fuck... it has to be a really strong record so a couple more months is totally worth it."

Sludge metal legends CROWBAR have signed a worldwide deal with E1 Music. The band will be releasing a new full-length album later this fall. "CROWBAR is very excited to have landed this deal with E1 Music! We have always been very proud of what we do and the new record will not disappoint and of our die hard fans." says front man and guitar player Kirk Windstein.
The forthcoming album will be the follow up to the band’s last album, "Lifesblood for the Downtrodden," which was released out in 2005. Windstein continues. "Big thanks to Jamey Jasta, Steve Ross and the legal team at E1 Music. Get ready, with a real label behind us we will crush!"
E1 Music Vice President of Metal Scott Givens adds, "CROWBAR have influenced a generation of great bands and E1 is fully committed to making this the band’s biggest selling record of its long and storied career."
Kirk Windstein formed CROWBAR in 1991. Since that time, the band's sound has profoundly influenced a new generation of metal acts the world over. Weinstein is also a key member of KINGDOM OF SORROW (with HATEBREED front man Jamey Jasta) and DOWN.
Many cities across the world have become known for producing many great metal bands. Birmingham, New York, San Francisco are just a few, but one that frequently gets forgotten is New Orleans, Louisiana. New Orleans produced arguably the greatest bands in the sludge metal genre, and perhaps the greatest of these bands was Crowbar. Crowbar was formed from the ashes of hardcore outfit The Slugs, with the original lineup consisting of bass player Todd Strange, drummer Craig Nunenmacher, guitarist Kevin Nooger and frontman Kirk Windstein. They released their debut album, "Obediance Thru Suffering" in 1991 which was well received but failed to sell well. However, the band was helped tremedously by Pantera frontman Phil Anselmo when he produced their next album and gave the band a support slot on one of Pantera's national tours, as well as wearing a Crowbar shirt in the video for "I'm Broken."
Crowbar drummer Craig Nunenmacher decided to leave the band in 1996 and was replaced by Jimmy Bower of Eyehategod. This lineup released the albums "Broken Glass" and "Odd Fellows Rest" in 1996 and 1998 respectively, before the band briefly recruited drummer Sid Montz for the 2000 album, "Equilibrium." Montz was replaced soon after with original drummer Nunenmacher, though once again his tenure would be brief, as he left to join Black Label Society soon after. The band then went on a hiatus for a while as Windstein concentrated on working with Down, the band which also featured Pantera members Phil Anselmo and Rex Brown, along with Corrosion Of Conformity leader Pepper Keenan and long-time friend Jimmy Bower, before returning with a completely new lineup in 2004, which included Rex Brown and guitarist Steve Gibb, former guitarist of Black Label Society and son of Bee Gee, Barry Gibb. This incarnation of the band released the album, "Lifesblood For The Downtrodden" in 2005, though new members were recruited soon after in the form of bassist Patrick Bruders (of Goatwhore fame) and drummer Tommy Buckley (best known for his work in Soilent Green.)
The band has continued to tour since 2005 with the promise of a new album in the near future. Crowbar's continuity has been disrupted several times in recent years, owing largely to frontman Kirk Windstein being involved in Down, as well as Kingdom Of Sorrow, the band he founded with Hatebreed frontman Jamey Jasta in 2005. The band replaced guitarist Steve Gibb last year with Kingdom Of Sorrow guitarist Matthew Brunson and have since been touring steadily, most recently as special guests to Sepultura in Europe. Their influence on modern metal can be heard today, with many bands citing them as an influence and they remain one of the greatest acts to ever emerge from the legendary city of New Orleans... along with Fats Domino of course. Brazilian thrash metal legends Sepultura recently completed a tour of Europe which saw them appear in many venues, as well as several festivals. A message from the band reads as follows:
"First leg of European tour is over! 22 shows in a row! That was a first. We have never done so many shows with no days to rest in between.
"Of course we had some minor problems on the way. Jean got his thumbs busted and had to start playing with gloves on to protect the wound. In Prague, so cold! Derrick almost got a cold and lost his voice. And the problem with so many shows in a row is that you just don't have time to recover!
"Mr. Nick Harris (drummer, Armed For Apocalypse) had to wear a sign not to be mistaken with Derrick. More...

Louisiana's Suicide War, who recently announced the addition of Goatwhore's Ben Falgoust for vocal duties, has now issued the following update about recruiting Kirk Windstein:
"Yes!! It is true.... Kirk will be doing vocal duties along side Ben in Suicide War. He will also be filling the bass duties, if and when Suicide War plans to do some shows. I know some people are expecting his signature Crowbar style vocals, but he has approached this project from a completely different angle. We are so pleased, and thankful to have Kirk involved with this project. We hope all the fans appreciate what we are trying to accomplish with this beast, and we promise you all wont be let down! Thanks and spread the word!"
Sample Suicide War tracks can also be heard via the band's MySpace page.
For the first time in over twenty years, two amazing metal bands from the sludge-covered city of New Orleans shared a stage. The crowds came out in droves for the show, bearing the freezing temperatures to see what will be considered a landmark show. There were many familiar faces in attendance, but the large amount of middle-aged non-metalheads was staggering. I can only speculate that these people came because Exhorder was one of their favorites as a kid, and even though they don’t like metal anymore, they wanted to see a band from their youth. It was similar to the crowd from their first show in years in November 2009 that had even less younger people. Regardless of the differences in the crowd, everyone had a great time watching the incredible event unfold. More...
For the first time since 1992, Exhorder and Crowbar will share the same stage at Metal Gras 2010 on Friday, February 12th with Flesh Parade opening. The show will take place at The Hangar, located at 1511 S. Rendon in New Orleans during the biggest weekend of Mardi Gras. Tickets are $20.00 with doors at 9pm. The show starts at 10pm.

Vocalist Kirk Windstein, of the sludge metal band Crowbar, has issued the following update:
"Hey to all of the Crowbar supporters out there. I will be having a bunch of updates coming your way really soon. For starters, Matt Brunson (Kingdom Of Sorrow) is now the permanent guitarist in Crowbar. We of course all remain very good friends with Steve Gibb, but his personal training business and gym are doing great I'm happy to report, but that, and his family at home simply do not give him the time to play with Crowbar any longer. We love him dearly and thank him for his dedication while he was jamming with Crowbar."
"I would also like to inform anyone that doesn't already know, the first show of the Stillborn Fest with Hatebreed has been moved from Syracuse to Electric Factory in Philly. This will take place on the 26th of December. Please check www.hatebreed.com for any more updates. There are a lot of good things going on in the Crowbar camp and I will be updating the site frequently. "

Veteran bands Hatebreed and Cannibal Corpse alongside Unearth, Hate Eternal and Born of Osiris makes for an unforgettable evening that no metalhead has an excuse to miss. COG presents Crowbar.
It’s been a while since the sludge gods have played. Yes, they’ve been around town at other shows and have played with their other bands, but Crowbar is something that cannot be forsaken. For twenty years, they have been covering metalheads with a thick layer of Louisiana swamp muck that you’ll be hard-pressed to wash off. But with all of the rough past, drugs, bands, records and line-up changes (and, believe me, they’ve had a lot of line-up changes), Crowbar is still the king of sludge metal. On July 25th, they graced the stage of One Eyed Jacks in the heart of the historic French Quarter and killed. More...

HATEBREED has revealed the release date and tracklisting of their new covers album, "For The Lions." The album is set for release on Tuesday, May 5th, 2009 via E1 Music (formerly KOCH Records). This new release is the follow-up to the band’s #1 Billboard charting DVD, LIVE DOMINANCE (released September of 2008).
The songs on "For The Lions" were carefully selected by HATEBREED to represent a panoramic view of some of their favorite artists and greatest musical inspirations. Having completed the album in 2008, the band felt their work wasn’t done yet and just returned to the studio with original guitar player Wayne Lozinak to record additional tracks for the album. The four new covers are among the most bludgeoning the band has yet to record. These include, “Ghosts Of War” (Slayer), “Supertouch/Shitfit (Bad Brains), “Thirsty” (Black Flag) and “Suicidal Maniac” (Suicidal Tendencies).
FOR THE LIONS was produced, engineered and mixed by long-time band associate Chris "Zeuss" Harris.
You can preview of “Suicidal Maniac” on the band's MySpace page.
In additional HATEBREED news, the band announced the departure of guitar player Sean M. Martin, welcoming back to the fold original guitarist Wayne Lozinak.
Front man Jamey Jasta says, “I speak on behalf of all of us and we support Sean's decision to leave and want him to be happy and successful at everything he does. There are no bad feelings at all and you'll probably see him hanging on stage at some of our local shows. We're family and he will be missed but HATEBREED will forge on.” More...

EYEHATEGOD 20th ANNIVERSARY on
AUGUST 29th - KATRINA's 3rd ANNIVERSARY -
at ONE-EYED JACK's - NEW ORLEANS, LA.
W/ HELLKONTROLL & CROWBAR
Here's the official press release:
"New Orleans own EYEHATEGOD have served up 20 years and 7 albums of original, painful and misanthropic feedback laden Hardcore Blues to an ever increasing doomed climate of world-wide despair and degradation and have absolutely managed to have fun doing it. Multiple tours of Europe, the USA and even Japan have seen these southern gentlemen 'Preaching the End-Time Message' and influencing new generations of hedonistic roustabouts to spread their Rock-n-Roll nihilism since 1988. The band will play at One-Eyed Jack's on the 3rd anniversary of Katrina, Friday August 29th with CROWBAR and Hellkontroll". -MIKE IX
