Underoath Not Breaking Up, Dismisses Rumors

After remaining relatively silent since the dropped off the Warped tour in in late July, Underoath has finally made a cryptic statement about their status as a band and some of the various rumours that surfaced in the aftermath. One of the more popular rumours was the NOFX's Fat Mike had somehow tormented the band to such an extent that the band had left the tour, one that Mike quickly refuted.

Instead, the band left this brief statement:

"Don't belive the rumors, Underoath did not break up, no one has been kicked out or quit or in rehab or any other silly places people are talking about. The dudes are getting ready to do their Canadian tour and then Taste of Choas international and then will do a headline tour in the US after that."

The wildly popular Christian metalcore act is supporting their 2006 full length, Define the Great Line.

mewithoutYou Drop Off Warped Tour

With cancellations coming fast and furious, mewithoutYou has dropped off the Warped Tour. Like labelmates Underoath, the band is citing exhaustion, among other things:

"We will not be returning to Warped Tour. There are multiple reasons why... First and foremost being the bus... Our bus is currently in the shop getting some much needed TLC. No bus, no touring. Pretty simple math. Also, Aaron is still nursing his throat and will be back good as ever soon enough."

The pattern developing this year seems to be entirely around newer acts in their first or second runs on the tour. Previous cancellations came from Spitalfield, From First to Last, Gatsbys American Dream, He Is Legend and The Fall of Troy.

NOFX Comments On Underoath's Departure

Since Underoath announced last week that they'd be leaving the Warped Tour to focus on the bandmembers' friendships, there has been a load of speculation regarding the move. The most popular explanation making the rounds blames NOFX frontman Fat Mike for their departure. Fat chance, Mike said in a statement Monday night. "As much as I do like controversy, there really isn't any to report on this subject," he wrote. "Underoath have left the Warped Tour, and as much as people want to give me credit for that, the truth is they just really needed a break apparently. Some people have suggested that they bailed because I made too much fun of them [for their religious beliefs]. Problem with that theory is that I have made fun of plenty of bands on this tour. I have also taken plenty of jabs at Christians, Jews, Buddhists and Muslims. I feel I am an equal opportunist when it comes to getting laughs from an easy target."

NoFx Attacks Underoath and Christianity

Underoath released a statement on Friday, July 28, stating they are dropping off the Vans Warped Tour to save their friendship. NoFX frontman, Fat Mike, made several comments directed at Underoath and the bands beliefs. Fat Mike was on stage and opened with "most bands on the warped tour this year really aren't that good, like Underoath, not that good. We don't care about our fans, we just want to offend as many people as we can." He later stated "if you are Christian or believe in God like Underoath, i would leave right now because i am trying to offend as many Christians as i can." The song "Idiot, Son of an Asshole" was later dedicated to God.

Upon hearing that Underoath dropped off the Warped Tour, Fat Mike called the band on their bus and apologized for the comments he made and assured the band they were made lightheartedly.

Initial Bands, Dates Announce For Taste of Chaos

The Taste of Chaos tour will return in the fall of 2006 and initial details are coming to light. The International Rockstar Taste Of Chaos 2006 tour is the only Worldwide Lifestyle Music Tour. "The event combines great musical artists with lifestyle concourse activities." This year the international tour will be playing in 12 countries. The 2006 International tour has attracted a stellar lineup of Taking Back Sunday, Thursday, Anti-Flag, Underoath, Senses Fail, Alexisonfire, Saosin and many more.

As with last year’s tour the smaller local stage will be reinstated to showcase the talents of local acts in front of thousands of fans.

In 2005 the inaugural international indoor music festival was a runaway success with Taste of Chaos shows in Australia, Japan, UK and Germany attracting in excess of 100,000 fans. In response to the demand we have added 8 additional countries this year.

Devised by Kevin Lyman (Founder of the Vans Warped Tour), John Reese, President of Freeze Artist Management and Darryl Eaton of Creative Artist Agency, Taste Of Chaos was developed to cater to a largely ignored legion of young fans with non-mainstream musical tastes and give fans six hours of varied entertainment for an affordable ticket price. "The demand from fans all over the World has been overwhelming. We are excited to expand to more countries and bring fans a great show." states John Reese

The International Rockstar Taste Of Chaos 2006 will see the continuation of Rockstar Energy Drink’s naming rights association of this year’s United States and Canada Taste Of Chaos tour. The company makes its first foray into International markets with this tour.

The tour will be presented by HURLEY (One of the World’s premier lifestyle apparel makers) while Ernie Ball and PETA will continue their on-going relationship with the event.

Partnerships from 2005 will continue this year with Triple J, Channel [V], and Bombshellzine all committing to the Australian leg of the tour. Also on board, for the first time, are Blunt Magazine and Myspace Australia. In New Zealand Groove Guide and C4 TV will join the fold. Kerrang will be involved in the UK version of the tour. Additional sponsors will be announced soon.

External to the main arena areas, each Rockstar Taste Of Chaos show will feature a selection of kiosks which offer gaming, artist signings, prizes, product participation and displays and promotions ensuring Rockstar Taste Of Chaos becomes an event, not just another concert.

Tickets to Rockstar Taste Of Chaos 2006 go on sale in Australia on Friday 30 June at 9am local time. For more information on specific country on sales and which bands are playing go to: www.rockstartasteofchaos.com

New Underoath Album Streaming Online

As Underoath prepare for the June 20 release of "Define The Great Line", MTV2's "The Leak" is now streaming the entire album online. The surrealistic video for "Writing On The Walls" --the band's first single, arriving at Modern Rock and Active Rock radio on June 27--can also now be viewed online. The video—helmed by Popcore Films--has debuted via an all-day premiere on MTV2's "Unleashed" and was added to Fuse as well.

In other TV news, Underoath are the special guests for MTV2's "T-Minus Rock" show airing all this week. Meanwhile, look for Underoath to host MTV2's "Headbangers Ball," airing Saturday, June 17. The band will also guest host the official Vans Warped Tour kick-off episode on Fuse TV's "Steven's Untitled Rock Show" airing June 14th. Fans can also tune in to Fuse to catch the band's special half-hour documentary titled "Making Of Define The Great Line," beginning next week and airing five times during the week of June 19.

Meanwhile, Hot Topic has come on board with Underoath after a successful chain-wide (675 stores in all 50 states) listening party last week that marked the first such event in the chain's history. As part of the band's partnership with Hot Topic, they'll participate in a June 20th in-store signing in their hometown of Tampa, FL while in the midst of their summer trek as a headlining main stage act on the Vans Warped Tour from June 15-August 13. The Hot Topic affiliation also encompasses storewide programs such as chain-wide mallway signage, listening stations and front of store displays.

Crafted with the help of Atlanta-based producer/drummer Matt Goldman--who helped pour the rhythmic foundation--and Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, the genre-defying "Define The Great Line" is a mind-blowing and cohesive album. While marking an artistically dark turn for the band, it remains undeniably accessible. "Define The Great Line" marks the follow-up to their 350,000-selling indie smash They're Only Chasing Safety, which has been on the Billboard new artist chart for 104 weeks—no other rock record currently on this chart has had a longer run than this.

Underoath will be touring on the Vans Warped Tour 2006 beginning this week in Columbia, Maryland. Also look for the band to round out their year by touring in many of the 27 countries releasing "Define the Great Line."

Underoath Set To Release Third Album, Tour Hard

Coming off their 350,000-selling 2004 indie smash They're Only Chasing Safety disc, UNDEROATH return June 20 with DEFINE THE GREAT LINE, their third album on Seattle's Tooth and Nail/Solid State Records. Catapulting them far beyond their previous works to create a sound that's both epic and intimate, UNDEROATH deliver one highlight after another including "Casting Such A Thin Shadow," "In Regards To Myself" and the haunting first single "Writing On The Walls."

The band - lead vocalist SPENCER CHAMBERLAIN, guitarist TIM MCTAGUE, bassist GRANT BRANDELL, drummer AARON GILLESPIE, keyboardist CHRISTOPHER DUDLEY and guitarist JAMES SMITH - just arrived in Sweden to shoot two videos with the avant-garde production team Popcore Films (Cult of Luna, From First To Last "The Latest Plague"). Director Anders Forsman is helming the "Writing On The Walls" clip, while director Linus Johansson will lens the video for "In Regards To Myself." Meawhile, look for UNDEROATH to host MTV2's "Headbangers Ball" on the show airing Saturday, June 3.

In touring news, UNDEROATH will perform at the Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, NJ on Sunday, May 7 before launching their U.S. headlining tour with Poison The Well, As Cities Burn and Spitfire supporting. For the May 15 New Orleans stop at the House Of Blues, the band will donate all of their share of the proceeds to benefit Common Grounds, which restores homes for Katrina Victims in the Ninth Ward. In addition, there will be a table at the show so kids can learn more about how to help with hurricane relief. Then UNDEROATH will hit the road as one of the headlining main stage acts on the Vans Warped Tour all summer long from June 15-August 13.

"We didn't want to take the normal approach, with just two guitar tracks, drum tracks, vocal tracks or whatever," guitarist TIM explains about the making of DEFINE THE GREAT LINE. "We made an effort to expand in our minds what UNDEROATH could do."

The disc was crafted with the help of Atlanta-based producer/drummer Matt Goldman--who helped pour the rhythmic foundation--and Killswitch Engage guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, who lent his experience to help capture the guitars and vocals and encouraged these Warped Tour veterans to use E-Bows, reel bows and experiment with delays and effects pedals. As a result, DEFINE THE GREAT LINE is a mind-blowing and cohesive album and, while marking an artistically dark turn for the band, it remains undeniably accessible.

"I like how broad it is," says lead vocalist SPENCER about the album's title. "DEFINE THE GREAT LINE can be interpreted so many different ways. It's just an imaginary line that I try to balance myself on to be the best person I can be."

Underoath Comment On New Album and Producer

UNDEROATH have announced they’ll release their new album June 20 on Tooth and Nail/Solid State Records.

Co-produced by Matt Goldman and KILLSWITCH ENGAGE guitarist Adam Dutkiewicz, the Florida-based sextet are in Los Angeles mixing the as-yet-untitled album with Chris Lord Alge (GREEN DAY, ROB ZOMBIE). “This is the record we've been striving to write for the past five years, and I never thought I'd see the day when it actually happened,“ explains McTague. “I can't wait for everyone to hear what we've been creating for the past few months, but in the end, if everyone hated it, we'd still think it's probably the best record we may ever be a part of.”

This marks UNDEROATH’s third full-length CD and the follow-up to their massive breakout album "They’re Only Chasing Safety", which has now sold over 300,000 copies. In the Alternative Press cover story on UNDEROATH, the magazine described "They’re Only Chasing Safety" as “an unqualified success, one of the most coherent albums in post-genre rock, a movement that’s been spreading like wildfire since the walls between hardcore, pop, metal and emo were demolished” (September 2005).

In touring news, UNDEROATH is confirmed for the UK’s Give It A Name Festival April 29-30 in London and Manchester. On May 3, the band will kick off a headlining U.S. trek, with POISON THE WELL, AS CITIES BURN, SPITFIRE and SINCE BY MAN supporting. On Sunday, May 7, UNDEROATH will perform at the Bamboozle Festival in East Rutherford, NJ.

This Summer, UNDEROATH will hit the road as one of the headlining main-stage acts on the Vans Warped Tour ‘06.
