Overkill Releases New Music Video

After releasing a lyric video for the track, Overkill has now debuted an all new music video for the "Armorist" single. Check it out below courtesy of Noisey.Vice.com.

Directed by long time collaborator Kevin J. Custer, the video depicts the raw power that emulates from the bands viscous live show. "We had a head banging riot working with Kevin Custer, he has an eye for the performance and the fast editing hand. Just what the doctor ordered for a face-melting, thrash-a-thon," says frontman Bobby Blitz.

This is the third time Custer has directed the band's visual element. Prior to "Armorist" he was tapped for "Bring Me The Night," from "Ironbound" in 2010 and "Electric Rattlesnake" from "The Electric Age" in 2012.

Blitz continues, "I was quite blown away with his use of natural light in Armorist, as if he let the sun in through the windows, then controlled how it was used. Horns up Kids, here comes the Overkill/Custer, Armorist!"

Overkill will release seventeenth LP "White Devil Armory" on July 22nd via eOne Music in North America, and July 18th overseas via Nuclear Blast. Check out our review at this location. More...

Thought Chamber Pulls Out Of ProgPower USA

Glenn Harveston, promoter for ProgPower USA, has announced that San Francisco's Thought Chamber has been forced to pull out of this year's festival to be held from September 10-13th, 2014 in Atlanta Georgia.

The following announcement was made by vocalist Ted Leonard: "Ted Leonard here….We regret to announce that, due to my scheduling conflicts, Thought Chamber will not be able to participate in ProgPower USA 2014. I feel terrible about this, but have had unforeseen commitments arise that unfortunately cannot be changed. We are truly honored to have been invited to perform at ProgPower USA. Glenn Harveston has built one of the best progressive metal festivals in the world, and we hope that Glenn will forgive our unforeseen cancellation and allow us to return in the future. This was totally unexpected, and evidence that I've completely overloaded my plate. I would like to personally and publicly apologize to Glenn Harveston, my band mates, and to any ProgPower USA fans that may have purchased tickets solely to see Thought Chamber."

Harveston has named the replacement act as Greek progressive metal band Need. The band released the latest album "Orvam - A Song for Home" in January. As a preview, check out the track "Mother Madness" from the album here: More...

70,000 Tons Of Metal: Day One

It seemed like one year had passed in a blink of an eye. No sooner had I experienced my first 70,000 Tons of Metal, which included a birthday that saw Helloween, Rage (w/Lingua Mortis Orchestra) and Metal Church play, than I was plotting my next adventure on the high seas. The floating festival is not only the most unique and phenomenal metal sojourns in the world, its boasts a diverse genre spanning 40+ bands. Though the 2013 installment represented an array of bands more geared towards my personal favorite tastes, a “Barge to Hell” like fog is built up around this year with Carcass, Obituary, Massacre, Death: DTA Tours, Satyricon, Terrorizer among a few which has swung the pendulum towards a harsher environment. For the traditional and power styles there is return act and “athletic rock” legends Raven, German euro power and proclaimed “happy metal” act Freedom Call, German symphonic metallers Xandria, Israeli symphonic ambassadors of peace Orphaned Land and the 700 piece traveling city Haggard, which single handedly make this 71,000 Tons of Metal. Overkill, Kreator Kill Worcester With Aggression

As if the ante of seeing Testament, Overkill and Flotsam & Jetsam needed to be raised, the thought of seeing Kreator, Overkill and Warbringer was much too tempting an offer. I was fortunate enough to see Overkill on that fateful day – February 16, 2013 – the last show that Blitz would sing on the tour due to contracting pneumonia – which forced him into the hospital in Buffalo the next day and forced the band off the tour. Looking back on that day, I thought despite the illness, Blitz sounded great – however, he did leave the stage nearly every time he stopped singing. Chuck Billy of Testament, who was also sick, sounded pretty awful, but he was a trooper and put on a great show regardless. Flash forward to November 1st and The Palladium in Worcester would be witness to what I can only describe as the “Tour of North American Aggression.” More...
