Background
Formed in 1998, Himsa has stood through intense beginnings that could only tear other bands apart. Having grown through many line-up changes, Himsa has progressed into an original metal-hybrid band that has its roots firmly planted in the hardcore scene. The combination of speed and technical precision in their music leads to mind-numbing changes and hints of harmonic thrash-metal not seen before in a band from this genre.
No stranger to determination or ambition, Himsa has seen parts of the world no-one would think of playing. Himsa has paved the way for touring bands in reaching the outskirts of an unrecognized fan base. Arranged by Himsa's bass player, Derek Harn, Himsa successfully toured and played in some of the most remote areas to be touched by hardcore. Many of the cities visited had never hosted a touring band of any kind, let alone a band from another country. China, Indonesia, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Korea, Hong Kong, and Japan were some of the countries that graciously hosted and supported an amazing experience for the band.
The name Himsa is a Sanskrit word that has varied meanings in different cultures, mostly with violent or negative connotations. Derek offers his reasoning, "I don't want to give a strict definition because you may find it means something different to someone else and it kind of relates to how I want our music to be thought of." The band's focus is not as political or personal, as it is aggressive. "We look at our negative surroundings and expel our disgust through our music to cleanse our existence."
Look for Himsa on the West Coast with the new and improved line up and prepare for another lp entitled The Blind Strategy Of Transition out in the Spring of 2002.

Himsa Post New Track Online, Embark On EU Tour
Century Media has given us a little update on rookie metalheads Himsa. The band's new metal assault, Summon In Thunder, is now set for a Sept. 18th release. Himsa will also head overseas this September for a month-long European tour alongside As I Lay Dying, Darkest Hour and Maroon. A U.S. fall tour announcement will also be made in the coming weeks.
Johnny Pettibone states; "Summon in Thunder - History has repeated itself in nature's vicious circle, giving a warning to the deterioration and collapse of humanity around us all. The heaviness of inspiration and failure, the strive to succeed and the pain of defeat. A call of cleansing for man's evils throughout the ages be it political, environmental, religious, or individual mental being. We all are guilty in the journey of survival."
Summon In Thunder will also include such exclusive extras as a video for the track "Unleash Carnage," a 15-minute making-of-the-album documentary, photo gallery and a bonus disc featuring tracks from an array of Century Media's most promising new artists. The scathing new track, "Big Timber," can now be streamed on the band's official MySpace page.
The disc's eye-popping cover art was handled by the renowned Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Red Chord).
Himsa Post Album Update
Himsa have posted the following update reguarding their new album entitled, "Summon In Thunder", which will be released September 18th on Century Media records, the band's new label. "Summon In Thunder" has the music produced by Steve Carter, the vocals being produced by Devin Townsend (Darkest Hour, Lamb of God), and the mixing and mastering being done by Tue Madsen (The Haunted).
Derek Harn (bass) states: “”Summon In Thunder” was paid for in blood, sweat and fury. Over 5 weeks straight of 20-hour days, and metal masters from three countries worked tirelessly under tight deadlines to create this monster. It was pure — but ultimately rewarding — anguish. In the end, it all paid off, and the intensity of the recording process carries through the album like a horde of stampeding wildebeests.
During our endless hours in the studio, we had a great idea for a video that we couldn’t pass up and decided to make this our first enhanced CD. The video is for our shortest, thrashiest song, “Unleash Carnage”, and is truly one of the grossest, most ridiculous displays in all of metaldom. Also on the CD, we included video footage on the making of the album, sort of a diary of how the process was working out at the time. To top it off, we put lots of pretty pictures of us in a photo gallery, so all the girls can make posters of us and hang them on their bedroom walls.
Speaking of pretty pictures, the ever-masterful Paul Romano (Mastodon, The Red Chord) created all the art and design for this album’s packaging. He researched what ancient cultures believed created thunder in the heavens and worked closely with Pettibone’s lyrics to create the imagery of mythological creatures and the power of nature’s dark wrath. It’s amazing art.
We are incredibly proud of this album and feel it’s a pure representation of who we are as individuals and as a band. We are anxious to get back out on the road and see all our friends across the globe.”

Himsa Complete Writing New Album
HIMSA enters the studio today (April 23rd) to begin recording their highly anticipated Century Media Records debut. The group will track the drums, bass and guitars with Steve Carter (who produced the Courting Tragedy and Disaster album); DEVIN TOWNSEND (STRAPPING YOUNG LAD) will be tracking vocals and the renowned Tue Madsen (DARK TRANQUILLITY, KATAKLYSM) handling mixing duties. The album is currently set for a late August release.
Derek Harn (bass) states: "The new album draws from the strengths of our last two records, Courting Tragedy and Disaster and Hail Horror, but this is an entirely new chapter for HIMSA and our fans. Sammi Curr (guitars) wrote a lot of the music for Courting, and Kirby Johnson (guitars) wrote most of the tracks on Hail Horror (when Sammi wasn't in the band), so the two of them have joined forces to craft a whole new level of rage. We're looking at about 10 or 11 songs right now, and are extremely proud of them. More...

Himsa Signs With Century Media Records
Century Media Records has announced the signing of Himsa to a worldwide deal.
Himsa further describe their feelings over the new partnership: “We are very excited, thrilled and honored to be asked to join the Century Media army. All of us are huge fans and supporters of the label and have always admired CM's continuous drive for releasing great and memorable albums throughout the years. The relationships that have grown and prospered between CM and other bands on their roster shows the honesty, loyalty and sincerity they have as a family. We feel it is the best move for us as individuals and as a band. With Sammi Curr (guitars) rejoining Himsa and writing new material with Kirby Johnson (guitars), our integrity and passion are at an all-time high with this next step. As soon as the new album is recorded, we will be back on the road destroying your towns."
Himsa's debut full-length, Courting Tragedy and Disaster (2003), was hailed by Revolver as "a manic 11-song effort that's as speedy and raw as it is technical and melodic," earning the band a highlight as one of 10 bands labeled as the "future of metal." However, it was 2006's Hail Horror that began to show what this band was truly capable of, as they let their brutal catchiness naturally coexist alongside musical complexity. The album, produced by the renowned Tue Madsen (The Haunted, Mnemic), perfected the formula that has allowed the band to continue building their own niche in the current metal scene and gaining attention from MTV, FUSE, Revolver, Guitar World, Outburn, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer and countless other outlets.
In other news, Himsa have been added to the Century Family's Third Annual Christmas Balls show, which takes place Wednesday, Dec. 13 th at The Key Club in Hollywood, CA. The event will also feature the LA based quintet In This Moment and will be headlined by Sweden's Dream Evil, who will be making their American debut and only U.S. appearance of 2006.

Report
Darkest Hour Brings Down Asbury Park, NJ
Friday night, March 31, 2006, I was sitting at home on my computer and on AIM. I hadn't planned on doing anything until out of nowhere, one of my friend's instant messages me, asks if I like Darkest Hour, "yes", I replied, so began my Friday night.
After running a few errands, my friend, his friend, and I headed towards Asbury Park to see Darkest Hour, A Life Once Lost, the Acacia Strain, and Himsa at Club Deep in Asbury Park, NJ. Now, this would be our first time to this venue and were told that it was right across from the legendary Stone Pony. When we got to the Stone Pony, we where relieved to find out we hadn't been misinformed. We walked in after paying at the door and I was surprised to see a pretty decent venue.
Club Deep consists of a decent size pit area, a bar in the back, and a divider separating the stage and pit area and the merchandise area. Also, in the merchandise area, there are a couple pool tables and the rest rooms. Club Deep is about the size of the Stone Pony which isn't very big, but isn't extremely small. Club Deep was just the right size for a good show.
Now, because of the errands we had to run, we showed up 20 minutes late and missed the Acacia Strain. We made it just as a Life Once Lost go on. A Life Once Lost was ok, not really my thing, sounded very hardcore influenced, and we enjoyed some of their songs. After them, Himsa went on; we aren't too big of Himsa fans because their drumming, in my opinion, overpowers the rest of the band. Also, I believe the drummer is too good for that band. After we sat down for Himsa, there's a little leather couch built into the divider to sit on, we stood back up for Darkest Hour.
Darkest Hour, the band we came to see, made the night worth the $12 spent to get in. Their vocalist was having trouble with his microphone in the beginning, but that was resolved after the first couple songs. Darkest Hour tore through songs from all three of their albums, including their single, "Convalescence", off their newest album, "Undoing Ruin", which I purchased along with a shirt after the show. Darkest Hour put on an amazing performance for their whole set. I found the guitar work to be exceptionally good. At the end of their set, their vocalist decided to stage dive, right into my arms. A much unexpected surprise! I bet he and I were both glad that I caught him!
That was the end of a Friday night that started as nothing besides me and my computer spending some quality time. Anyone who says AIM and computers are a waste of time and bad for you, I suggest you take a look at how this amazing night started.
Himsas Hail Horror #1 On College Radio
HIMSA's "Hail Horror" has overtaken the #1 position at American metal radio, as measured by FMQB, a radio trade publication. Beating out fierce competition at both college and commercial metal radio, the success for "Hail Horror" comes at a perfect time when the band is receiving hoards of positive press both domestically and overseas, as well as logging video airplay for the single "Sleezevil" and partaking in the hugely successful "Undoing Ruin 2006" tour alongside DARKEST HOUR and Prosthetic Records labelmates THE ACACIA STRAIN. MTV2 will be re-airing the "Sleezevil" video on this weekend's edition of "Headbangers Ball," while HIMSA will continue touring the US through April 8 before heading back to Europe with DEATH BY STEREO and THE BANNER live appearances in April and May.
