Author & Punisher Streaming "Women & Children"

Propagated by sound manipulator/engineer/former robotics major Tristan Shone, Author & Punisher relentlessly challenges the traditional principals of doom, industrial, and heavy bass music.

His latest ode comes in the form of “Women & Children,” the title track of Author & Punisher’s upcoming fifth full-length, set for detonation this June. In anticipation of its release, Stereogum is offering up an exclusive stream of the tune here (you can also check it out below).

Describes Shone: “‘Women & Children’ is a sullen voyage from the beginning to the end of time, from primordial bliss to devastating chaos. That's how it feels to me anyway." More...

Author & Punisher Kicking Off Tour

Following a U.S. journey with A Life Once Lost earlier this Spring, Author & Punisher will ship his machinery overseas for a short run of European live dates.

Scheduled to commence on May 4th, Author & Punisher will ravage his way through the Netherlands, Germany, the UK, Belgium and Slovenia before bringing the proceedings to a ceremonial close in Czech Republic. Notes Pitchfork of the project's live experience: “…seeing Shone play his music is a much different experience: He renders these songs using massive devices he builds himself to control an onstage laptop. A bit like a cyborg, Shone grapples with and writhes among his machines, making music that’s not necessarily alien with tools that are.”

Author & Punisher Reveals New Album Details

West Coast-based Author & Punisher, the long-running, one-man industrial doom project propagated by sound contortionist Tristan Shone, is pleased to announce his fifth and latest creation of audio rebellion. Shone elaborates: "Author & Punisher's newest sonic endeavor combines elements of both machines and more traditional apparati to stretch and blur the dynamic palette from doom to industrial, to heavy bass music, and back again."

Adds Seventh Rule Recordings label head Scott Flaster: "The new Author & Punisher? On first listen I was thrown into a grey world where the bleakness of early industrial music layered with a heavier contemporary dirge."

The "Women & Children" album will be released on April 30 via Seventh Rule Recordings. The track listing is as follows:

1. Women & Children
2. In Remorse

Author & Punisher Streaming "Flesh Ants"

American Aftermath has just posted an interview with Tristan Shone, the man behind nightmarish electronic/doom mindfuck Author & Punisher. The site is also hosting an exclusive stream of "Flesh Ants," a brand-new song off the project's forthcoming Seventh Rule Recordings debut. Check out the interview and stream here, or listen to the song in the player below.

"Ursus Americanus" is due out as digipack CD on April 24, 2012, and will be unleashed upon the public via a West Coast tour (dates to be announced soon!). Seventh Rule Records commented on the band:

"Author & Punisher can be described most succinctly as 'industrial doom,' but of course, is much than a mere genre tag. This one-man project utilizes primarily custom designed and fabricated machines and speakers, devices that draw heavily on aspects of industrial automation and robotics and focus upon the eroticism of interaction with machine. The machines are designed to require significant force from the performer, aligning he or she with the plodding doom influenced sounds that are created - 'Like Godflesh meets The Bug meets Flying Lotus,' according to MSN Metal's Adrien Begrand." Author & Punisher Signs With Seventh Rule

Seventh Rule has issued the following announcement about signing a deal with Author & Punisher:

"Seventh Rule Recordings is proud to announce the latest signing to their eclectic roster, San Diego's AUTHOR & PUNISHER. Iconoclastic in the truest sense of the word, Tristan Shone, the sole propagator behind this haunting, claustrophobic cacophony inverts the tenets of doom metal completely, relying on cold steel and soulless machinery to bring despondency to life. His new record, entitled 'Ursus Americanus', will be his first release on Seventh Rule, and is due out as digipack CD and other digital formats on April 24, 2012.

The machines are designed to require significant force from the performer, aligning he or she with the plodding doom influenced sounds that are created - 'Like Godflesh meets The Bug meets Flying Lotus,' according to MSN Metal's Adrien Begrand.

"AUTHOR & PUNISHER has performed with and shown these machines extensively at festivals and exhibitions in the United States and abroad, and has more live actions planned for 2012."
