Pit Stories: The Masked Midget

Every Tuesday we check in with metal musicians to get their favorite mosh pit stories from live shows. Today drummer Stephen Carr from Exotic Animal Petting Zoo shares the following story of a masked midget commanding the pit:

This pit story takes place in El Centro, CA and I think the venue was called the Print Shop. A little person at about 4' 3" was the king of the pit ordering every single person at the show to to circle pits and wall of deaths. Kids obeyed him firmly and he never revealed his face or identity the entire show. It was pretty freakish and awesome at the same time. Proof of his existence can be seen in our video below at 0:20 - 0:25.

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo will be hitting the road with Polkadot Cadaver in June, with dates for the North American trek available right here.

Let us know about your favorite mosh pit in the comments below, and check back in again next week for more Pit Stories.

East Of The Wall Announces April Tour Dates

Tech/prog metal band East of the Wall has announced the details of an upcoming stateside April tour. Beginning with a home state kickoff show on April 12th, the tour will hit eleven cities across the East Coast and Midwestern U.S. Sponsored by Metal Underground.com, the trek will see East Of The Wall teamed up with LA-based stoner/groove metal outfit All Hail The Yeti for all shows, with Indiana’s math/experimental metal outfit Exotic Animal Petting Zoo also joining the tour on three dates.

In conjunction with the new tour, East of the Wall will also issue a high-quality LP pressing of their previously out-of-print debut full-length, "Farmer’s Almanac." Initially released on CD through Forgotten Empire Records in 2008, this 2013 edition of the "Farmer’s Almanac" broadcasts the entire maiden album performed by the band’s earliest lineup and is hitting the streets via Nefarious Industries. It has been remastered at Menegroth, The Thousand Caves by Colin Marston, who originally recorded and mixed the album, and supplied guest guitar tracks during the recording sessions.

The release will see limited pressings on 180-gram vinyl, with 250 copies on black and 250 on transparent blue, and will include an MP3 download coupon, all housed in a full-color gatefold jacket. Preorders can be placed here.

These updates come just days after East of the Wall posted a new digital single to benefit Translator Audio, the renowned NYC-based studio where the band and many others including Keelhaul, Unsane, Pelican, Cave In and Rosetta recorded some of their prime albums. More...

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo Streaming New Song

Exotic Animal Petting Zoo is ready to release the sophomore effort, "Tree of Tongues," via Mediaskare Records on April 10th. "Tree of Tongues" was produced by Stephen Hawkes (Red Fang, Silent Civilian).

The first taste of the album is available now as MetalSucks premieres the track “Apis Bull” exclusively here. The following press release was also issued about Exotic Animal Petting Zoo:

"Back in 2008, the band launched their debut effort ‘I Have Made My Bed In Darkness’, which received praise from critics; the band hit the road for their first tour and things quickly started to fall apart. They returned home with no money or a place to live and head back out on the road on a DIY run of dates to try to make a profit. This allowed EAPZ to rent a practice space, which they also lived in, and begin to refocus on the band. The band then heads out on another tour and is forced to bang on their instrument cases on the street to make gas money and ultimately part ways with their guitarist. More...
