Running Wild Posts New Single Online

Running Wild has released a new digital single and video for the song, "Ride On The Wild Side". The track is taken from the band's forthcoming "Crossing The Blades EP," featuring three brand-new studio recordings and one cover version and can be heard below.

"Ride On The Wild Side" is a song, which - thanks to its powerful pace and high compositional quality - would almost have made the shortlist for the upcoming album. Now it enhances the Crossing The Blades EP, particularly because Rock N' Rolf recorded the guitar solo on a Fender Stratocaster - instead of his tried and tested Gibson Explorer - to do justice to the track’s rocking flair. "Crossing The Blades" will be released through SPV/Steamhammer on December 6 as CD EP, 12" vinyl version, shirt bundle (Steamhammer Shop), download and stream. More...

Running Wild To Release New EP

It’s been three years since Running Wild wowed their fans with their (still) current album, "Rapid Foray." Three years in which a lot of water has passed under the metal galleys of time and the fans’ requests for new songs have become more and more vociferous. To ease the wait so that his supporters won’t have to hold out until early summer 2020, Running Wild captain Rock´n`Rolf has come up with a real masterstroke: on December 6 - Saint Nicholas Day - the band have a special little gift for their fans and will release the "Crossing The Blades" EP, featuring four brand-new tracks, including an exciting cover of the KISS classic, "Strutter".

First of all, the focus is on the EP’s opener, "Crossing The Blades". What’s so special about this song is the fact that it’s a harbinger of the next regular album, scheduled for release in summer, but will remain unique in its present incarnation. Because, explains Kasparek: “This version will only be available on the Crossing The Blades EP. The album will feature a different version, completely re-recorded and with a number of little changes.” More...

Running Wild Reveals New Album Details

Good things come to those who wait: three years after the release of "Resilient" (reviewed here), Running Wild now announces the title and release date of new album "Rapid Foray," which will be available on August 26th, 2016 as a box set, on digipak CD, double vinyl LP and digital download.

The band's mastermind Rolf Kasparek apologizes for the long delay: "Due to my broken shoulder, I was totally or at least partly incapacitated for more than twelve months from spring 2014, something that repeatedly delayed work on the new material. After that I had to prepare intensively for our show in Wacken, which was also very time-consuming. Now I'm all the more pleased to be able to present an exceptionally strong new recording to all Running Wild fans."

Kasparek promises his fans one of the most diverse albums yet in the career of Running Wild, featuring eleven varied numbers and a great deal of attention to detail.

"The new tracks are more complex than those on our previous two releases," Kasparek reveals, "which I noticed in particular when we were recording the guitars. At the same time some of the numbers remind me of Running Wild classics. I feel that we've come up with a very interesting and impressive mix."

New album "Rapid Foray" was produced by Rolf Kasparek with Niki Nowy working as sound engineer, who also mixed and mastered the material. The cover artwork is based on a photo by Kasparek, which Jens Reinhold (Virgin Steele, Freedom Call, among others) subsequently gave the look of an oil painting. More...

Running Wild Announces Wacken 2015 Lineup

German metal pioneers Running Wild announced the live lineup for the band's performance at the legendary Wacken Festival this year. The performance will mark the first live show since the Wacken 2009 performance, which at the time was to mark the end of the band. However, band leader Rolf Kasparek resurrected the band in 2011 and released the albums "Shadowmaker" (2012) and "Resilient" (2013) via SPV/Steamhammer Records.

For the upcoming Wacken performance on July 31, 2015, in addition to Kasparek and long time colleague and guitarist Peter Jordan, the band will feature ex-Thunderhead bassist Ole Hempelmann and Victory drummer Michael Wolpers. Rolf confirmed that there will be a new studio release, as the set list will feature a new album from the untitled release.

The announcement reads: "Dear Rrunning Wild fans, surely you are keen to know about the line-up, which will play the show at this year's Wacken Open Air. Of course that's P.J. and me, and our new additions Ole Hempelmann (bass, Ex-Thunderhead) and Michael Wolpers (drums, Victory). We're looking forward to rock Wacken with you on July 31. Exclusively for you we will also play a brandnew song from the forthcoming studio album. See you on board!" - Rock'n'Rolf"

More information on the new album is expected soon. More...

Sunday Old School: Running Wild

Disclaimer: MetalUnderground.com does not support piracy of any kind and strongly encourages readers to buy their music and not plunder the seven seas. We do however, fully endorse any metal band who wants to base their image or lyrics around pirates, and there are a few. Pirates have become a popular topic amongst people over the past twenty years, thanks in part to successful franchises such as Pirates of the Caribbean and the Monkey Island games, so it’s no surprise that the drunken, debauched world of piracy found its way to the drunken, debauched world of heavy metal. It did so before either of the aforementioned franchises in fact and before bands such as Alestorm and Swashbuckle performed under the Jolly Roger, and most people would give full credit for the invention of pirate metal to a band from Hamburg, which were appropriately named, Running Wild.

The seeds of the band were sown in 1976 when members of the bands Granite Hearts and Grober Unfug began jamming together, eventually decided to form a new band with a new name. It seemed to be a relatively lengthy search as they didn’t settle on the moniker, Running Wild, until 1979, taking its name from the Judas Priest song of the same name. They released their first demos in 1981 and soldiered on for a few years this way, certain that their hard work would pay off. As luck would have it, it did, and they were eventually picked up by Noise Records, who released their debut album, "Gates to Purgatory" in 1984. Lyrically, the album was based more in fantasy and Satanic themes than the historical topics they would later adopt, though the record did feature a song entitled, "Genghis Khan." More...

Tribute To The Lesser Played Halloween Classics

So its Halloween yet again….and for some reason it just doesn’t seem as scary and wonderful as it used to be. Maybe its age….maybe it’s the state of the world….perhaps it’s just desensitization or my state of mind. Though its still my favorite time of year, Halloween used to be "special," mainly due to the fact that I bought into this notion that Halloween is the “world holiday of metal.” Not unlike horror films, metal used to have a creep factor in the 80's that seems all too polished and mechanical in 2014. For me, it's the only time when severely under-produced records can have a massive shock value.

On the topic of special Halloween memories over the years, I distinctly remember 1986 – when Slayer had just released what is arguably the greatest thrash metal album of our time just 24 days prior to Halloween. I begged my parents for money to buy it just around a day or two before Halloween…and it literally scared the crap out of me as a 15 year old kid. Every Halloween in that time, back when more people used to celebrate it with open doors, family, friends and I used to walk 5-7 miles – filling multiple pillow cases with candy…only to return home and dump it on the floor before switching costumes to go out for another 2-3 miles before all the lights went out in the neighborhood precisely at 8:30pm. 1986 was particularly memorable because the topic of discussion was “Reign in Blood.” My friends and I gasped in terror conjured by the album mostly because it was so "rebellious" and clashed directly (and indirectly) with our Roman Catholic upbringing. These were days before we reached the age of reason. More...

Running Wild Posts "Riding The Tide" Teaser Clip

Running Wild posted a teaser clip from the track "Riding the Tide" (heard below), which appears on the comeback album "Shadowmaker." The album is expected for release on April 20, 2012 (EU) and April 24, 2012 (North America) through SPV Records.

In other news, a message was posted by Rock 'N' Rolf Kasparek (shown below), as the Running Wild mainman will conduct three record store appearances in Germany for the release of the "Shadowmaker." The appearances will be as follows:

Friday, April 20, 2012 @ HOT SHOT Records, Hannover (5:30 pm)
Monday, April 23, 2012 @ HOT SHOT Records, Bremen (5:30 pm)
Tuesday, April 24, 2012 @ SATURN, Hamburg (5:30 pm)

In the remaining part of the message, Kasparek indicated that apparently a national socialist website is using the band's "Riding the Storm" song as a theme and that he did not give permission for the use of the song nor is affiliated in any way with the site. Long time Running Wild fans are well aware of Rolf's vehement stance against national socialism. The song "Bad to the Bone" from the 1989 release "Death or Glory" is a testament to that stance.
