British heavy metal veterans Saxon have announced that they will be beginning work on their next studio album next week, their first since 2011's, "Call To Arms," which saw top 20 success in both Germany and Sweden. A short update from drummer Nigel Glockler reads:
"Working on getting the home studio tidy and then off next week for writing sessions for the next Saxon album…busy busy busy!"
The band will be performing at several European festivals this Summer, with the following confirmed:
April 28 - Dortmund, Germany - Rock in den Ruinen
May 26 - London, UK - Hammersmith Apollo (opening for JUDAS PRIEST)
August 2-4 - Wacken, Germany - Wacken Open Air
Saxon has checked in with the following announcement about writing new material for an upcoming album:
"We hope you all had a marvelous Christmas and a fantastic New Years Eve. We had such a great year in 2011 and we would like to thank every single one of you who made this year one of our most successful years ever. Our world tour and album release was a blast, we enjoyed every minute of it.
"Also, our social network sites are going very well and we are happy to have made more than 40.000 friends on Facebook in just one year!!!
"Saxon at Markthalle Hamburg © Kai Swillus / EpigraphicsEveryone is already working behind the scenes and the band will be entering the studio at the end of January to begin writing the new album. This will be our main focus. We are looking at a release date of either autumn 2012 or early 2013.
"Of course we will also be playing at some festivals this year. We are happy to announce that we have confirmed 2 festivals in Germany: Rock In Den Ruinen and the mighty Wacken Open Air! There are more to come!
"We will keep you updated about our plans and working status and wish you all the best for the upcoming year."
Saxon's Biff Byford has checked in with the following statement from the final "Call to Arms" world tour live show:
"Did the last show of Call To Arms world tour on Tuesday. Last Night went to see Rock of Ages in London. Fantastic show. All of the cast were on top form – the singing was spot on.
"Hats off to them all, every night plus matinees is hard-core. Went backstage to meet the cast and got to meet up with Justin Lee Collins. I didn't know he could sing and dance so well.
"Anyway a good night was had and you should go and see the show - it puts you right back in the eighties and I should know - I was there!"

"Hi, I was at the classic rock music awards on the 9th of November giving the mighty Scorpions the metal guru award. It was a good night out! Gene Simmons was the host compare and did a great job.
"Biff Byford / Saxon @ Metalfest Germany 2011I was out drinking till 5.30 in the morning can't remember anything else.
"Congratulations to our agent Steve Strange to winning the agent of the year award. COME ON!!!! Tour is going great. Good to see Anvil and Crimes Of Passion again. Sat in Salzburg at the moment freezing. Vienna tomorrow I will do a video blog from there.

Anvil announced that it will support Saxon on a fall European tour beginning in November. Anvil recently released a best of album entitled "Monuments Of Metal" and Saxon is currently on tour supporting the latest LP "Call To Arms."
