The first glimpse into the new album, "Frozen Edges Of The Wound" premiered via The Obelisk and can be heard below. Speaking on the album, the band said:

"Today we are super excited to present to you the first glimpse of our upcoming brand new album 'Violence Dimension.'

"'Violence Dimension' is our 7th full length release. We have come quite a distance in time and space since we released Horseback in 2010. One thing that binds us all is violence, be that within a video game, or in a movie or on the daily news. Violence affects our daily life, perhaps more than love or kindness ever will. This release explores the hinterland between being scared to live and being scared to die, and punches holes in the idea that we must live our life by one set of rules.

"We release this album In partnership with Heavy Psych Sounds on 25th April 2025."

Tracklisting:

1. Foeman’s Flesh
2. Desolation Hexx
3. Total Bicep

MU Goes To Hell: Incinceration Fest 2024

One of the wonderful things about Camden, a very busy area of north London, is the amount of venues there are. London in general has plenty of live music hosts, but it seems if one has to go to Camden, or a neaby area like Tufnell Park or Kentish Town, if they want to experience some live metal. This is exactly why many flocked to the likes of the Electric Ballroom and The Underworld this past Saturday, as Incinceration Fest returned for its ninth edition to celebrate black and death metal, as well as some other examples of the extreme, from the UK and abroad.

While Ante-Inferno kicked things off in The Underworld, this review begins a short time later at the Electric Ballroom around the corner, where east English veterans Fen took to the stage quickly after the doors opened. Heavily inspired by their home area from where they draw their name, Fen channels the beauty and fury of the natural world through their music, which is epic in scope and offers so much to be enthralled by. Guitarist, The Watcher howled and screamed his way through five numbers, two of which were taken from their latest album, "Monuments To Absence," and those who made their way to the Ballroom for this performance all seemed very impressed, myself included. The trio possess an imposing stage presence which makes the delivery of this absolutely fascinating music all the more powerful. An excellent way to begin the festival! More...

Conan Parts Ways With Bass Player

British doom metal outfit Conan has announced that after ten years, they have parted company with bass player Chris Fielding. A statement from the band reads as follows:

"Nothing lasts forever…..

"It is with sadness that we announce the imminent departure of Chris Fielding from Conan.

"Chris joined the band late 2013, as a replacement for Phil Coumbe, and established himself as a very important member both in his role as performer and also as producer. Together we have enjoyed many enjoyable trips and experiences and created music that we are very proud of. We have become close friends during that time and so of course we support Chris’s wish to focus on other areas of his life. He will of course remain as our producer.

"Chris’s last shows with Conan will come during our upcoming UK tour in March 2024. Make sure you come along and say goodbye.

"We have appointed Chris’s successor and will make an announcement on that in due course.
"Hail Conan."

Conan Shares "Righteous Alliance" Video

Following their much acclaimed 2018 full-length, "Existential Void Guardian," and their Live at Freak Valley record released just last year, England‘s doom metal masters Conan strike back again! The trio‘s fifth studio album, entitled "Evidence Of Immortality", drops August 19, 2022 via Napalm Records.

As first album singles showcase, Conan's upcoming magnum opus will overrun you like a steamroller. The British kings of brutally heavy slowness push their down-tuned axes and cranked pedals to the limit, crushing ears and minds when huge, rumbling chords and malevolent riffs muscle their way in over lances of infinite distortion and drums that pummel and thunder like the hands of a god against the gates of hell.

Following their previously released first album single "Levitation Hoax," today the band has unleashed a brand new, colossal track and music video! “Righteous Alliance” emphasizes that Conan are the masters of their craft, while Jon Davis spits his lyrics over the uber-synchronized power chord changes and tempo shifts of the unholy trio of bass, drums and guitar.

"’Righteous Alliance’ is another track that we have been playing live," guitarist and singer Jon Davis comments. "It is all about war, and the hopelessness of it. However, a hero is coming and just as death is imminent, an unflinching saviour enters the fray and the day is saved, for now.

"We were keen to include some fan footage from over the years, thankfully they came through so thanks to everyone for being a part of it." More...

Conan Reveals New Album Details

England‘s doom metal masters Conan strike back again! Following their much acclaimed 2018 full-length, "Existential Void Guardian," and their "Live at Freak Valley" record released just last year, the trio has announced the release of their fifth studio album, entitled "Evidence Of Immortality," due out on August 19, 2022 via Napalm Records.

As first album single proves, on their upcoming magnum opus, the British kings of brutally heavy slowness push their down-tuned axes and cranked pedals to the limit, crushing ears and minds when huge, rumbling chords and malevolent riffs muscle their way in over lances of infinite distortion and drums that pummel and thunder like the hands of a god against the gates of hell.
First single "Levitation Hoax" showcases Conan's trademark sound combined with fast-paced riffage and a pounding groove in epic doom metal grandeur, before dragging you deep into a black hole, as you scream in silence.

"’Levitation Hoax‘ grew from a riff that was created in December 2019, when we were on tour with Cavalera Conspiracy," guitarist and singer Jon Davis comments. "The song begins as a thrash metal onslaught and just gets heavier and heavier as it progresses. It was a fun track to write, and has some of my favourite lyrics from the album." More...

Desertfest UK 2022: Day 3

There's no feeling more bittersweet than the last day of a good festival. On the one hand, you know that you've still got another day of fun ahead, but on the other, it's back to the real world tomorrow and all that goes with it. If it's time to go though, it's best to do it in style and so it was that the final day was spent entirely at The Roundhouse, a beautiful venue a little further away from the others in Camden, but well worth the small trip. It's hosted so many legendary bands over its history and has been the setting for live albums from such bands as Kreator, Opeth, X-Ray Spex and Paradise Lost to name a few. There really was no better place to experience the atmosphere and spirit of Desertfest, which by now has become as important in the doom fans' calendar as Roadburn.

While there were of course many upset fans when it was revealed that The Obsessed were unable to perform, the announcement of Dvne as their replacement was met with a great deal of excitement. Promoting their latest album, "Etemen Ænka," it was easy to see why people were so fascinated to see them. The band are hard to pin down, taking elements of doom, progressive and post metal and creating a soundscape which borders on the ethereal. Despite having two albums under their belt, it seemed to be only songs from the aforementioned "Etemen Ænka" on display, which didn't seem to bother their fans at all, who were lost in the atmosphere created by the Edinburgh quintet. If you're interested in music that paints a picture, then Dvne should definitely be on your list. More...

Desertfest UK Announces Lineup Changes

The organisers of the British edition of Desert Fest, which will celebrate it's tenth incarnation next month, have announced that a number of bands have been unable to make it to this year's festival, including Corrosion Of Conformity and The Obsessed. The good news however is that they have booked a number of replacements. A message from the organisers reads as follows:

"Due to circumstances well beyond our control, the following artists are no longer able to perform at DF London ’22: Corrosion of Conformity, The Obsessed/Wino, Khemmis, Somali Yacht Club, Mos Generator, URNE, Shuck.

"We know this news comes as a disappointment however, all is far from lost as we are thrilled to be welcoming 1000mods, Greenleaf, DVNE, Ritual King, Shooting Daggers, Old Horn Tooth & Personal Hell to the bill!

"We hope you understand that touring is still extremely difficult to navigate during these times, with a lot of decisions taken out of our hands. But your continued support of independent live music means everything to us. We cannot wait to see you in a little over a month!

"If you are still after a weekend ticket, the best thing to do is sign up to the DICE waiting list. Or you can nab yourself a Saturday + Sunday (Non-Roundhouse access) combo ticket here.

"More info regarding after-parties, merch + a very exciting reveal of what's going to be on offer down on Greenland Place is all to come.. stay tuned!" More...

Conan Unveils Animated Music Video

The masters of fantastical, otherworldly, sludgy doom metal, Conan, are back to celebrate Halloween with a gruesome animated music video for their charging track "Paincantation," proudly presenting a cinematic monster resulting from 18 months of the finest-tuned animation. Their newest visual was created by award winning animation director Nicos Livesey who has directed music videos for bands like Iron Maiden and Gorillaz and worked with brands like Adidas. Hail Conan!

The world's heaviest doom metal-band Conan is streaming the 2012 demo track "Gravity Chasm" in the player below. The song appears on the upcoming release "Man Is Myth - Early Demos" coming November 17th via Napalm Records.

Psycho Las Vegas 2017

Psycho Las Vegas recently wrapped up its second edition in Sin City after moving away from its Californian roots in 2016. Psycho Las Vegas 1st edition was outstanding. The second? Well, I’m trying to find an adjective that tops outstanding… The whole experience of hosting some of the heaviest/hottest/weirdest/loudest bands in the storied Hard Rock Casino is practically a religious experience. My short anecdotes cannot and will not do it justice. You, the reader, will need to make the conscience decision to go next year to experience it for yourself. Or, if you’ve been already partaken, well, I’m sure you can vouch for me in addition to having your own stories to tell. Here’s a brief rundown of my four days.

Thursday: The first day of any festival is always the most dangerous when trying remember details. It’s the day you usually celebrate breaking away from your job/your significant other/your home/your life. It’s probably a statistical fact, the day you tend to overindulge in adult beverages.

By the time I arrived at the Pool Stage, Goya had already started. After a couple of minutes of nothing coming through the PA system, the Phoenix, AZ doom lords were off and fuzzing up the already buzzing crowd. Next up were Conan. I have to admit, I kept running into friends throughout the pool area and I was only was able to listen to them through breaks in conversations with said friends. I did catch the crowded pool stage’s reaction to their set and it the applause was loud after every song. So, I’m going to say they had a great set at this point. More...
