Seeker To Support Malevolent Creation, Incantation

Texas tech-metal band Seeker has announced U.S. tour dates supporting Malevolent Creation and Incantation this October.

"We're unbelievably excited to head out with these two legendary bands,” states Seeker vocalist Bryce Lucien. “We're hitting a lot of our favorite cities and can't wait to play music from our new album on this tour."

The band is currently in the studio with Zach Ohren (Chelsea Grin, Fallujah) recording the follow up to 2013’s "Unloved."

Lucien comments: "We've been in the studio for about a week and everything is turning out great. The drums sound huge and the guitars are coming in flawless and absolutely crushing. We've spent nearly three years working on this album and can't wait for everyone to hear it. Expect the darkest, fastest, and most chaotic music that we've ever written." More...

Incantation Releasing "XXV"

Incantation: a megalithic entity of the death metal underground, whose New York scene association heads into a new/old chapter with the band's first-ever release chronicling 25 years on this foreboding, doomed planet.

Ever-precise to its origins, Incantation has witnessed, and experienced, the ebb and flow of a scene which they helped create. With ten studio albums under the band's bullet-adorned belt (which includes numerous videos, and even a TV commercial), those early, primeval years saw a slew of releases, in various forms, that are as relevant today as the day they were released.

Through it all, the band has amassed an army of supporters and fans who have eagerly endured a quarter century of blasphemy. As testament to this, the band decided it was high time to give something back to the Incantation legions worldwide. This very special 12" gatefold vinyl release draws form a robust collection of work - dawn to the present. Included are select live songs, a brand new track, and the re-recording of three classic songs that combine to represent a band unafraid to revisit the demons of old.

Bare witness as the "XXV: A Quarter Century Of Blasphemy" vinyl approaches. Let John and Kyle explain the details over the first listen to the songs within. More...

1985-1995: The Golden Age of Death Metal

Death should be credited with creating death metal, at least the old school style we recognize now, as they birthed the infamous Tampa, Florida sound. Bands such as Autopsy and Obituary—two of the forerunners—would not exist without Death. Death is not the true father of death metal, though. That distinction goes to Possessed. The California Bay Area group not only played a style of brutal, vicious metal, with loads of Satanic imagery, they also coined the term “death metal” on the “Seven Churches” album.

Around 1985, albums similar to “Slowly We Rot” (Obituary) and “Mental Funeral” (Autopsy) simply did not exist. Thrash was the fasted, craziest music around. Of course Possessed has already been mentioned, but the influence of Slayer, who obviously influenced Possessed, can not be under recognized. Where Possessed was different was they used a rougher production. Dark Angel, whose drummer, Gene Hoglan, would go on to be one of the most heralded drummers in the metal biz, certainly showed a good dose of Slayer in their sound. In the beginning, Slayer was nothing more than a faster, nefarious, more solo-oriented Venom protégé. More...
