On February 23rd, the Swedish masters of furious, intense and merciless black metal from Dark Funeral will return with the release of new single "Nail Them To The Cross."
Besides the title track, which released as a video some weeks ago to present new vocalist Heljarmadr, the single includes another brand new track called "Temple Of Ahriman."
Both songs were recorded at Dugout Studios in Uppsala/Sweden and were mixed and mastered by Daniel Bergstrand. The cover artwork was created by Marcelo Vasco.
Nail Them To The Cross will be available as a digital download and a hand-numbered 7" limited to 1000 copies worldwide, of which 500 copies are on black vinyl and 500 on blue vinyl.
The 7" will only be available through CM Distro and at the band's live shows, starting with one of the first appearances featuring new members Heljarmadr and Natt at Blastfest (Bergen, NO) on February 20th. The CM Distro pre-order starts on January 26th. You can also catch the band live:

After launching the new track "Nail Them To The Cross," Swedish black metal outfit Dark Funeral is now officially introducing new frontman Heljarmadr and bassist Natt. Century Media Records had this to say:
"With roots in the second half of the 90's black metal scene and in bands such as highly respected Gra, Domgard, and Cursed 13, comes a raw force from the underground.
"Known as a fierce frontman, both onstage and on recordings with his previous bands, he will now step up and claim a seat in the throne room of Dark Funeral to inflict deep scars in the black metal scene. The name Heljarmadr derives from old Scandinavian languages, simply meaning 'a man belonging to hell.'
"With long time experience in the arts of creating dark satanic music, he will play a key role in shaping the future vocal and lyrical direction of Dark Funeral. Expect nothing but excellence, pure darkness and uncompromising evil!
"Treading into this world, Natt has always had a strong, deep interest in music and the arts of the great unknown. More...

As the band searches for a new vocalist, Dark Funeral has recently been re-issuing previous albums. Now the Swedish band has checked in with the following update about working on new materila:
"Sorry for my long time silence. There are obviously reasons, personal reasons, for this silence, but I have no wish to dig any further into that now or ever to be honest, which I hope you all will respect! Anyway, apart from my short updates on my personal fan-page, I'm more than aware that many of you are waiting for some more concrete news on the new album, and vocalist.
"Unfortunately there's not much to tell except that I/we're still busy writing. And we're still looking for a new permanent vocalist, but as always there are a lot of things happening behind the scene...
"Anyways, speaking about the new album... The new material is coming along absolutely majestic, no doubt! And compared to our previous albums, it carries a more melancholic touch than just sheer darkness & evil, but that's where my blackened heart and soul is at the moment. And wherever my inner demons lead me I will follow. And wherever they'll bring me, it will color my music obviously. I'm absolutely sure you'll dig this new stuff as much as I do!
"Besides writing on the new album, among many other things, we're currently working on a massive 20 years anniversary gig in Stockholm, Sweden this spring. If you know the Dark Funeral history I'm sure you can figure out what date (weekend) we have in mind for this hellish event, if not, just wait for the official announcement coming soon. Anyway, this gig will be 'exclusive' in many ways and you'll don't want to miss it, believe me!
"As said, we're still looking for a permanent vocalist, preferably from Scandinavia. If you've got what it takes to tour intensely and be the front man of the ineffable Kings of Black Metal, please send us your application to firstname.lastname@example.org
"Please provide the following information when sending applications: Send us a photo, your name, age and a short background story about you and maybe bandography incl. touring history. Also attach 1-2 audio/video clips in good quality that have been recorded recently. If we find you interesting, we'll contact you regarding the next step.
"Furthermore, we have just reissued our entire back catalogue through Century Media! All releases have been expanded with previously unseen photos from my personal archive, extensive liner notes by Olivier 'Zoltar' Badin (Terrorizer / Iron Fist), bonus material and revamped layouts. These albums are available as CD (at mid-price!), LP and Digital Download. Check them out and make your order here." More...
Century Media Records has posted previously unreleased footage of Dark Funeral performing live in Buenos Aires for an official live DVD recording. Check out the hour long set in the player below. Dark Funeral also just re-issued a series of albums, with full details available at this location.
After releasing re-issues for "The Secrets of the Black Arts," "Vobiscum Satanas," and "In the Sign..." yesterday in North America, Swedish black metal masters Dark Funeral have now announced the street date for their second batch of re-issues: "Diabolis Interium," "Attera Totus Sanctus," and "Angelus Exuro Pro Eternus."
Due out November 25th in Europe and North America, these new editions have been expanded with previously unseen photos from Lord Ahriman's personal archive, extensive liner notes by Olivier "Zoltar" Badin (Terrorizer / Iron Fist), bonus material, and revamped layouts. See below for each album's track-listing and details. More...
After recently signing to Century Media Records for an upcoming studio album, Dark Funeral is now ready to present a series of re-issues for the band's previous six albums.
Created with the band's close cooperation, the first batch of Dark Funeral re-issues covers the self-titled MCD (plus bonus material), "The Secrets Of The Black Arts" (including the re-mixed/re-mastered 8-track Unisound mix as a bonus), and "Vobiscum Satanas" (including live tracks).
These titles will be released in Europe on September 9th and in North America on November 12th via Century Media Records.
In regards to these upcoming re-issues (plus Dark Funeral's new vocalist search), the band's mastermind, Lord Ahriman (guitar), comments:
"I'm proud to announce that we are finally doing proper re-issues of our classic albums through Century Media. And to really spice things up, I have dug deep into my personal photo archives to come up with some killer photos/flyers, previously mostly unseen by the public eye. These will be the definite versions of our classic albums, especially the nice vinyls! Each album also contains detailed liner notes-- and besides myself, Themgoroth, Dan Swanö & some other old friends that were present at the time I formed the band contributed to this. Unfortunately, I could not finish off these re-issues with Blackmoon, who sadly passed away earlier this year, but he was fully aware of them and for 'In The Sign...' and 'The Secrets...' we at least added a tribute page to commemorate him.
"We've just ended our festival season with a killer show at Germany's Summer Breeze festival. Now, my/our main focus will be to resume writing the next masterpiece, tentatively set for release in 2014. More news to come...
"Dark Funeral is currently looking for a permanent new vocalist - preferable from Scandinavia. Serious applications can be sent to email@example.com!" More...

If Satan needed a house band in Hell, he could certainly call on Morbid Angel. Thanks to his guitar acrobatics, journalists have long dubbed band-founder Trey Azagthoth as the Eddie Van Halen of death metal. When the group emerged in 1989 with their first proper release, few, if any, could match the Mercury-footed speed of Pete Sandoval’s double-bass-blasting feet. The groove, mind-blowing skill and heretical lyrics and imagery landed the group at the top of the extreme metal world. Massive touring cycles transformed the band into one of the most prolific, underground touring acts of the 1990s. Their devilish music found its largest audience opening for Slayer and Pantera in the beginning of the new millennium.
After the Pantera gigs, Morbid Angel largely stayed out of the limelight. An opening stint for Soulfly in 2005 was the only North American tour I recall since Pantera. Assumingly, much of the crowd in attendance at Backstage Live in San Antonio had not seen the group in seven or even twelve years. Many long-time fans bemoaned “Illud Divinium Insanus,” the group’s first album in eight years, as the lowest point of artistry in the group’s near-thirty-year career. In fact, many of these fans felt the album was so poor they wouldn’t even venture out to see the band play, which is such a shame because they missed one of the best extreme metal tours of the year!
