Mastodon Premieres Video For "Divinations"

Headbanger's Blog premiered the new Mastodon video, "Divination," this weekend online while the video premiered on MTV's Headbangers Ball as well. The video was helmed by Roboshobo, who also directed the video for "All Nightmare Long" from Metallica.

The clip depicts the band members on a rock n' roll mission, trudging through the frozen tundra. "We're climbing a mountain looking for a creature named Brent," guitarist Bill Kelliher told HeadbangersBlog.com. "We were mountaineers — explorers like in John Carpenters ‘The Thing.'"

"It's a really fun video," adds guitarist and vocalist Brent Hinds. "I'm an old caveman trapped in a block of ice. Explorers find me and they put the flying V [guitar] up to the ice and it melts me. I grab the guitar, do the solo and then I kill them."

"Divination" comes off Crack The Skye which hits stores on March 24th on Warner Bros Records. You can watch the video below. More...

Mastodon To Perform Entire New Album On Tour

Jonathan Cohen from Billboard.com is reporting:

Atlanta-based MASTODON have a strange story to tell on their new seven song, 50-minute heavy metal opus, Crack The Skye. And the best way to hear the whole twisted tale will be live and direct: the band plans to perform the album, due March 24, in its entirety on their upcoming tour.

The complete album performance is something new for the group, says bassist Bill Kelliher, but "there's something about (Crack The Skye) where it would be weird to leave a song out. We'll incorporate a whole stage show, which will hopefully make it even more exciting for kids to come see and more visually stimulating." The band is also hoping to make a short movie from all the songs, which Kelliher hopes will be Mastodon's version of The Wall.

The trek begins at Coachella in mid-April, after which Mastodon heads to Europe to support METALLICA. But hometown Moastodon fans will get a preview tomorrow night (February 28) when the band headlines a free, 40-band heavy metal festival at Atlanta's Masquerade nightclub, produced by the car company Scion.
