Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Posts Album Trailer

Only a few days left until the masters of cinematic metal - Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody - will release new album "Prometheus - Symphonia Ignis Divinus" via Nuclear Blast (June 19th in Europe and June 30th in the U.S.).

Today, the band releases the first part of a series of trailers, which includes album excerpts and can be heard below. You can also read our review here. Luca Turilli comments:

“The music and lyrics of Rhapsody are generally inspired by science, metaphysics, myths and legends, the mysteries of the universe and much more. All these topics are related with one basic and fundamental source of inspiration that I would define as 'spiritual evolution.' In my life experience I felt always attracted by what hides behind the miracle of creation. I always tried to find an answer to all the common philosophical questions: from where we come, where do we go and which is the sense of all this, what really hides beyond the illusion of space and time, what happens after our physical death and all that.

"In particular I was very interested in understanding more about that primordial original spiritual source that was later manipulated by man, in a more or less wise way, and that gave birth to all religions. I started finding the first important answers to this kind of questions in the second part of my life, after some particular events happened to me and that changed my life vision once for all. From that moment, mainly thanks to the constant practice of yoga and meditation, I started exploring the possibilities of the human brain and the relation between the material world and the spiritual dimension surrounding us, finally starting to understand where the key lies for the comprehension of all things.

"As these subjects became fundamental in my daily life, it is natural I felt the need to express all this also through the music and lyrics of my Rhapsody band. The song 'Il Tempo Degli Dei,' in particular, is very special for me as in the middle section of the same track you can hear the real voice of the greatest Italian psychic, Gustavo Adolfo Rol (1903-1994), reading from the pages of his diary the famous words of what he defined as 'The tremendous Law,' that quantum gate discovered by him in 1927 and allowing him to gain access to a set of supernatural 'possibilities' that he used in the name of light and love. That song is dedicated to him as he is one of my greatest inspirations.” More...

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Details "Prometheus" LP

The creators of cinematic metal are finally back with their most outstanding record: "Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus," which is set to be released on June 19th (EU), June 22nd (UK), June 30th (US) by Nuclear Blast Records. Pre-order your copy at this location.

The album was composed and produced once again by Luca Turilli, responsible, as always for all the orchestral and choral arrangements. It was recorded and mixed at the Backyard Studios of Sebastian Roeder (Bonfire a.o.) and mastered by Christoph Stickel (Michael Schenker’s Temple of Rock a.o.) at MSM studios.

Seven months of composition, three months of production, over 50 days of mix, two choirs, several special guests, including Ralf Scheepers (Primal Fear), Dan Lucas (Karo) and David Readman (Pink Cream 69). Including 70 minutes of epic music, sounding cinematic, bombastic and dramatic as never before, the new Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody masterwork will lead the listener to an emotional and memorable journey between quantum gates, parallel dimensions, myths and legends hiding cosmic truths, ancestral secrets and spiritual revelations.

And this time it was not enough for the band to simply sound cinematic. It came the time for Rhapsody to finally “look” cinematic too. Therefore, the new cover artwork and the album booklet, introducing the new cinematic graphic style of the band, were realized by the well-known amazing artist named Stefan “Heile” Heilemann (Epica, Lindemann a.o.).

The digipak version of the album will include the cinematic version of "Thundersteel," the famous song of Riot, performed by the Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY singer Alessandro Conti in duet with Ralf Scheepers!

The first single, entitled "Rosenkreuz (The Rose And The Cross)" will be released on April 24th, 2015. The long-awaited orchestral ballad "Fantasia Gotica," not included in the full length album, will be released as a bonus song before the same album release. More news will follow soon on how to get it for free! More...

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Issues "Prometheus" Update

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody posted a new update on the upcoming release "Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus," which is slated for Spring 2015.

The update reads: "After more weeks of hard work and sleepless nights we can give you a new update about the production of the new Luca Turilli's Rhapsody album entitled: "Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus"

"After 6 months of intense work, we are at the final stage of the production. Our drummer Alex Landenburg just started recording his parts and knowing his skill and incredible talent we can guarantee a breath-taking percussive performance!

"Luca Turilli just ended the recordings of his guitar parts in France. As usual, he recorded his lead and solo parts by himself using the Eleven Rack from Avid and the Protools software installed on a Mac laptop.

"Turilli commented: 'When I compose the songs and work on the orchestral arrangements I need to be in my home studio in Trieste (Italy), using my super orchestral template based on 3 x dual Xeon PCs, 12 x SSD and Cubase software. But for the guitar solos I like to rely on a simple laptop and my faithful Eleven Rack, which allows me to record my parts (regular audio track + contemporaneous DI signal to be re-amped later) wherever I want in the world and with total freedom.'

"Luca is now back in Italy to work on the last orchestral and cinematic arrangements. More...

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Finishing Work On Album

Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody is currently in the Backyard Studios of Kempten (Germany) to finish the recordings of upcoming album "Prometheus, Symphonia Ignis Divinus."

The regular edition of the album will be over 70 minutes long, featuring 11 titles and will be released in early spring by Nuclear Blast.

Once again, the producer will be Luca Turilli, composer and orchestral/choral arranger of all the songs, while Sebastian Roeder will be the engineer and responsible for the mix. The new album will be mixed and mastered around Christmas time and 2 singles will be released shortly after.

Vocalist Alessandro Conti reveals: “This album surely includes the most and greatest challenging parts I ever recorded until now. I am sure our fans will go crazy for this new Rhapsody release because of the many surprises and real hit songs included inside it. I also had the chance to sing together with one of my all-time favorite singers and this has been a further satisfaction.”

Luca Turilli adds: “This is really a super production close to the one of a soundtrack for an Hollywood blockbuster. We recorded all kind of choirs for over 15 long and exhausting days, collaborating with amazing singers like Ralf Scheepers, Dan Lucas, Bridget Fogle, Previn Moore plus other special guests. I composed and arranged all the choral and orchestral parts in the same way I would do it while scoring for a movie or videogame trailer and I am sure our fans will go crazy for this new album as we do! I simply love it and I could surely define it as ‘the quintessence of cinematic metal’. Bombastic, epic and dramatic as never before!” More...

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Announces Choir For New LP

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody is set to enter the studio in a few weeks to begin recordings for the upcoming new release "Prometheus - Symphonia Ignis Divinus." Today, the band began to post studio diary reports for the release, the first announcing opera choir members. The first is Bridget Fogle, who sang vocals on Luca Turilli's Dreamquest release "Lost Horizons" (2006) and Luca Turilli's 2006 solo release "The Infinite Wonders of Creation." Secondly, the band announced Previn Moore, who sang choirs with Rhapsody of Fire, LT Rhapsody's last release "Ascending to Infinity," as well as After Forever and Epica.

The full diary entry reads:

"THE PROMETHEUS DIARIES - Opera Choir

Hi to all, now only a couple of weeks are left for us to enter in the BACKYARD STUDIOS of Kempten and proceed to the last album recordings with our faithful engineer and great friend SEBASTIAN ROEDER.

"The highlight of this new studio session will be the OPERA CHOIR recordings. The RHAPSODY composer LUCA TURILLI is actually completing all the choral arrangements and soon all those notes, from his CUBASE software, will turn into real and epic vocal melodies. Therefore we want to present you the two main amazing voices who will be with us for one long and hard week of tough recordings (the RHAPSODY choral parts are considered by all singers as really difficult due to the many changes of tonalities and for all the “crazy lines” composed by Luca himself) and that will lead such opera choir session, raising the cinematic level of our new album PROMETHEUS, SYMPHONIA IGNIS DIVINUS, to new artistic heights!

"Here they are, our long time friends and surely two of the best voices around: BRIDGET FOGLE and PREVIN MOORE! More...

Dominque Leurquin Returns To Stage After Injury

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody proudly announced that guitarist Dominique "Dodo" Leurquin will make his stage debut with the band since suffering a career threatening injury in a chainsaw accident nearly two years ago. The debut will be at the Made of Metal festival in Hodonin, Czech Republic on Friday, August 15th.

The announcement reads:

"DODO IS BACK!!!

"The show of the MADE OF METAL festival on August 15th (Hodonin, Czech Republic) will be very important also because it will be the first show where DOMINIQUE LEURQUIN will perform with us on stage since the new Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY band was created.

"Last time, just before the ASCENDING TO INFINITY CINEMATIC TOUR started, he thought to play with a chainsaw, he almost lost his hand and risked to end his artistic career forever. Then, thanks to a real miracle and his perseverance he won his challenge.

"No worries… this time we took care of him…a straitjacket and a special room for psychopaths were enough to ensure he didn’t play with chainsaws or even with forks and knives.

"So we should finally have him back in Rhapsody after all this time… we missed him so much.
Welcome back, mighty DODO. RHAPSODY needs all your talent!" More...

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Posts New Album Update

Luca Turilli posted an update on Italian cinematic metal act Luca Turilli's Rhapsody's new album "Prometheus - Symphonia Ignis Divinus." In a post on the band's Facebook Page, Turilli mentioned that 20 songs were composed for the new release.

The update reads: "Hi to all! Here we go with another update related with our new Luca Turilli’s RHAPSODY album entitled 'Prometheus - Symphonia Ignis Divinus.' Just to tell you that I recently went through the most creative and exciting time of my life. 11 songs were previously composed and partly already recorded. Right now, in the last 2 months, I reached the final goal of 20 songs composed. I never had so many tracks available for an album and believe me if I tell you that the final decision for the album sequence will be very hard, this time harder than ever before. These new songs will be recorded in Kempten (Germany) at the Backyard Studios in September and from that moment on, thanks to this official Facebook page, you will be constantly updated about what is going on. I won’t spend any further word about the quality of these songs and I will just re-add here the words of Nuclear Blast’s head of promotion, Markus Wosgien, who seemed to be really excited after listening to the demo of the first composed songs: More...

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Posts Update On New Album

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody posted an update on the impending new release "Prometheus - Symphonia Ignis Divinus." Originally planned for a summer release, the album has been pushed back until the latter part of 2014.

The update reads: "Hi to all! Here we go with an important update related with the new Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody album entitled "Prometheus - Symphonia Ignis Divinus." In reality we can not tell too much until an official statement by Nuclear Blast will appear (and we guess it should appear in a short time). What we can just reveal in the meantime is that the release date will be postponed of some more months and that the reason for that is that the album is going to be '…nothing else than a real masterpiece!' (Markus Wosgien, Nuclear Blast - Head Of Promotion). Yes, that was the amazing reaction of our friends of Nuclear Blast who recently had the chance to hear a demo of the first songs extracted from the new Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody album. Markus continues: 'Cinematic, orchestral and epic as only Rhapsody can be. Probably more cinematic than ever before as in some cases I had the real feeling of sitting in front of a giant screen and to enjoy the vision of a big budget Hollywood movie while listening to an amazing soundtrack of the last generation where metal, hybrid music, symphonic, folk, opera - and much more - blend themselves perfectly! Honestly I don’t find other words to describe the amazing melodies of this extraordinary album with an outstanding Alessandro Conti, some of the greatest choirs ever heard in this kind of music, some great surprises and many songs that could soon become real hits!.'

"We want to thank Markus for his incredible words and let you know that after such presentation and the related excitement of our record company, we agreed together with Nuclear Blast to postpone of some more months the release date in order to find the perfect timing for it and to make of this album a top priority release for the label. Luca Turilli's Rhapsody Posts Details On New Album

Luca Turilli's Rhapsody announced the first details on the upcoming new release "Prometheus: Symphonia Ignis Divinus." The album is targeted for 2014 via Nuclear Blast Records. The press release reads:

"Luca Turilli’s Rhapsody are proud to reveal the first news about their new album, scheduled to be recorded and mixed once again in the Backyard Studios of Sebastian Roeder (Kempten, Germany) and released by Nuclear Blast in 2014."

Vocalist Alessandro Conti commented: "This album is very important to all of us. Behind it there is the ambitious goal of creating one of the most epic and cinematic albums ever written. Prepare yourselves for an amazing journey ranging from the myths and legends of the past to the unexplored borders of space and time, the revelations of quantum mechanics and beyond, while exploring the multi-dimensional levels of psyche and consciousness and the intimate secrets of heart and soul on the path of spiritual evolution. In short words: a roller-coaster ride of extreme emotions. Be ready!"

Luca Turilli added: "I recently gave birth to my company Luca Turilli Music Productions (http://www.lucaturilli.com/) and have partnered with great artists such as the US producer/re-mixer/mixer Allen Morgan (U2, Nine Inch Nails, Taylor Swift) and the Czech conductor Petr Pololanik (nominated for "Hollywood Music in Media Awards" in 2011) to start composing emotional music with impact, mainly for the world of cinema and the video games. What I can say is that I am composing, writing and producing the guitar parts and the orchestral and choral arrangements for this new Rhapsody album in the same exact way I would and will do it while scoring movie trailers or video game soundtracks. Therefore expect moments of high tension, pure action and adrenalin for a final result never heard before. In other words: the definitive consecration of CINEMATIC METAL!”

ProgPower USA XIV: "Dark Fate Of Atlanta"

I. The Setup

For as long as I can remember, I've searched for what I would define as a "perfect concert" - a mighty bucket list item that eluded me. I fixed the label to many shows in the interim, scratching off those "before death" list items one by one as each successive concert outdid the previous. Back in mid-2012, when I submitted my sponsor list for 2013, I listed fifteen bands I wanted to see and was willing to put money on for ProgPower USA. Number one of that list was Luca Turilli's Rhapsody. The reason is simple....there is no composer in heavy metal not named Jon Oliva that can even compare to the wealth of fantastic material presented since the 90’s. Turilli had numerous solo albums and various side bands all in addition to writing a double power metal story arc that lasted eleven straight albums, many of which grace the top lists of any fan of the genre. Well in advance of the latest two Rhapsody of Fire albums, Luca decided that it had to end…and that he needed to split off and see his own vision of band - one that would turn it towards the cinematic. In what appeared to be a confusing agreement with lifetime friend and co-founder Alex Staropoli, the two would split - each keeping a variant of the name and both claiming the entire back catalog as his own. Then, in a feat that I have seen nowhere else in band splits, the two would remain close friends and allies, each supporting the other and respective releases. Since then, Turilli fired the first salvo with “Ascending to Infinity,” an album so perfect it’s actually hard to listen to (see review here). Even though Rhapsody was not scheduled for the main festival, in the fall of 2012 it was announced that the band would headline the Thursday night kick off show with two hour plus set. Though ProgPower’s main festival would prove so great, this concert was the highlight of not only the festival….but my entire life. What would follow can only be deemed the “perfect concert.” More...

ProgPower USA XIV: At A Glance

In its 14th year for 2013, the ProgPower USA Festival is one of the longest-running US festivals, and the longest-running US multi-day festival to feature bands from outside the US.

This year, it has the special distinction of being the US debut show for five bands. Totaling more than a hundred and twenty band performances in its time, it has developed a reputation as a tastemakers’ festival, heightening awareness within the US of foreign bands.

It can be a daunting festival, price- and endurance-wise, but it’s one that should be considered if the genres it derives its name from at all turn your head. Here’s what you can expect from this year’s celebration of the fast and the nerdy down at Center Stage in Atlanta, Georgia, starting on September 4th. More...
