Spiritual Beggars Finishes New Album

Swedish act Spiritual Beggars, featuring guitarist Michael Amott (Arch Enemy, Carcass) and bassist Sharlee D'Angelo (Arch Enemy, Witchery) started working with Apollo Papathanasio (Firewind) as a new singer after parting ways with JB (Grand Magus). The band has finished the recordings of the 7th studio album at Sweetspot Studio with producer Rickard Bengtsson, who already produced the “On Fire” (2002) and “Demons” (2005) albums.

Michael Amott commented: "The new Spiritual Beggars album is to my ears some of best stuff I've ever done with this band and I'm very much looking forward to releasing the seventh Spiritual Beggars studio album 'Return To Zero' with the help and expertise of the InsideOut team! At the end of the day it was a no-brainer to do a new licensing deal with the InsideOut label, they did a great job on the 'Demons' album and the 'Live Fire!' DVD.

"Since then, they have merged with the Century Media company whom I have a long and successful history with. I already know a lot of the people that will be involved in this release, and that feels good. I respect InsideOut label boss Thomas Waber for being a true music fan and for his undying enthusiasm and efforts in making this deal happen.” More...

Spiritual Beggars' Debut Album To Be Reissued

Regain Records has announced that it will be reissuing the debut album from Spiritual Beggars.

Originally released in 1994 by Wrong Again Records (the label that later became Regain Records) the self-titled album was the world’s introduction to former Carcass guitarist Mike Amott’s hard rock alter ego. Through the course of six albums, all released as as Amott’s schedule has permitted in between his work with current band Arch Enemy, Spiritual Beggars has shaken its image as a mere side project and established itself as a genre-defining band in its own rite.

Wrong Again's second release ever, "Spiritual Beggars" has been a tough find for quite some time, and now more recent converts to the band will have the opportunity to sample the band's beginnings. Older fans will also be interested to find four bonus tracks on the reissue: "Blind Mountain," "If You Should Leave," "Nowhere To Go," and "Sour Stains."

Shining Reforms w/ New Lineup, Plan Tour and Album

Reactivated Swedish Black Metal'ers SHINING have returned. SHINING are now officially allied with the highly repected French record label Osmose Productions.

SHINING leader Kvarforth last year announced the death of the band due to many unpleasant circumstances which have been prominent the past years, both within the band and around him personally. It was said that their album "IV - The Eerie Cold" (Avantgarde, 2005) would be their last. Shortly after the CD's completion, members Phil A. Cirone and Hellhammer (MAYHEM) left the band. Now SHINING return with a basically entirely new lineup consisting of Ludvig Hvit (SPIRITUAL BEGGARS, FIREBIRD) on drums, John Doe (CRAFT, TWIN EARTH) on guitar, Hallander on bass and Casado on guitar. The reason for this new lineup is simply because there is a need to play live, which never would have worked out in the long run with the previous members considering the distance between them. A new era has begun to take shape.

SHINING recently played their first three shows ever (one in Sweden and two in Norway) and are currently planning on touring until early 2006, when they will comence the recordings of "V - Besvikelsens Dystra Monotoni" (Osmose, 2006), the follow-up to 2005's "IV - The Eerie Cold". The group's official web site has been updated after a long time of silence from the SHINING camp. Included are new promo photos and live photos from the three recent live performances.

The current tour dates are as follows: More...

Spiritual Beggars In The Studio

Spiritual Beggars guitarist Michael Amott has posted this message on the band's official website:

"As usual, recording here at studio Fredman is wild and strange experience. Mr. Fredrik Nordstrom is crazier than ever!

In the 4 days we have been here, we have put down all the basic tracks (we are recording drums, guitars, bass and keyboards live on to 2" tape) and it is sounding really warm, big and heavy! Our producer, Fredrik Nordstrom, has got a phenomenal sound out of Ludwig Witt's brand new custom built (by himself!) kit… and of course Ludwig is beating the living shit out of the drums (the 28" bass drum sounds HUGE) and cymbals as usual - it sounds very killer so far!! It's a really different way of recording…no pro-tools and/or triggering of drums. This is the old school way…like Sabbath, Purple, Heep etc. used to do things back when heavy metal was born…it's fun and very satisfying! Today we are going through all the bass tracks and checking if there are improvements to be made there. Monday will be a keyboard day - time to lay down the Hammond, Mellotron, Fender Rhodes stuff, that's always a fun part of the recording, Per IS the keyboard wiz!

We'll keep dropping by here with some more reports later.....

Michael Amott"

Spiritual Beggars Work On New Album

Spiritual Beggars are entering Studio Fredman in Gothenburg, Sweden next week. They are working with producer Fredrik Nordström again (who produced the bands previous albums “Ad Astra" and “Mantra III").

Guitarist Michael Amott comments: “We have been working on this new music for over a year, on and off. We have got a great collection of songs that we think are of a slightly heavier and more intense direction than the songs on 'On Fire' (2002). The spirit of HEAVY rock is still alive and well in the camp here and it´s all smiles as we rehearse this stuff, we just know this is going to sound absolutely HUGE when we lay it down on Fredrik Nordströms Studer 2 tape machine!!!."
