Avenged Sevenfold
From:
Orange County,
CA,
United States
Last Known Status: Active
Background
The five piece hails from Orange County, California, influenced by everyone from Pantera, Metallica and Iron Maiden to Bad Religion, Misfits, Guns N Roses and NOFX. In addition, guitarist Synyster Gates (an attendee of the Musicians Institute of Technology) and the rest of A7X confess a fondness for prog-metal musos Dream Theater and experimental rock group Mr. Bungle.
Avenged Sevenfold formed when its members were still in high school. As M. Shadows explains, "We made our first record ["Sounding The Seventh Trumpet"] when we were 18 years old." Since then, they’ve made the road their home, hooking up with metal acts such as Shadows Fall and Mushroomhead and leaving their impression on the 2003 Vans Warped Tour. Charles Cross of Rolling Stone (August 7, 2003) anointed Avenged Sevenfold the Warped Tour 2003 "Second-stage must-see," going on to call them "…a Goth-metal band with a singer who looks like Elvis and sounds like Axl Rose."
As befits the drama and darkness inherent in their songs, Avenged Sevenfold name is based on the philosophy "what comes around goes around," originating with the Biblical story of God’s wrath upon Cain for killing his brother Abel. According to the book of Genesis, "And the Lord said until him, 'Therefore whoever slayeth Cain, vengeance shall be taken on him sevenfold'." Despite the spiritual connotations of their name, Avenged Sevenfold music does not hinge on religion. At the same time, they are converting many with their unique sound.

Avenged Sevenfold Cancels North American Tour
Avenged Sevenfold has announced that they have been forced to cancel their planned tour North America with supergroup Prophets Of Rage as a result of vocalist M Shadows suffering from a vocal chord injury. This includes their planned headlining spot at the Heavy MTL festival, where their place will be taken by Limp Bizkit. A statement from M Shadows reads as follows:
"There is no good way to start out a note containing bad news but here it is.
“After Europe I came down with a terrible viral infection that rendered me voiceless.
“I tried my best to take care of the situation with voice rest, medication and doctor visits but the voice was only getting worse.
“After a week of steroids, the swelling went down enough to see the cause of the problem. A blood blister has formed on my vocal folds and is preventing them from vibrating properly. In short, I can’t sing anything at the moment and the more I attempt to, the more damage is being done. Luckily, as of now the doctors feel that 3 months of no singing and voice rest should get my chords back on track. More...

Avenged Sevenfold Stagehand Dies After Show
Currently out on tour in Europe, Avenged Sevenfold just issued this announcement about one person dying and another being seriously injured during last night's German show:
"We have some very sad news to report. Last night after our show in Stuttgart, Germany, a 26 year-old stagehand fell from the rafters while breaking down our stage. He fell a very far distance onto a 19 year-old man on the local crew. Tragically, the 19 year-old died from his injuries. The other man is now in critical condition at the hospital.
"This is beyond heartbreaking to everyone in the band and on our crew. We all send our thoughts and prayers to the man in the hospital, both families involved, all of the local Live Nation crew and everyone else whose lives have been affected by this terrible accident.
"We love our crew so much as well as the many local staff who are essential to our show every night wherever we are around the world. This is such a stark reminder of how quickly an accident can happen and lives shattered in the process. When we hear more we will update you." More...
