Latest Psyopus News
Below is our complete Psyopus news coverage, including columns and articles pertaining to the band. Some articles listed may be indirectly related, such as side projects of the band members, etc.
Note: We began associating news directly with bands in late 2003. Therefore, earlier band news may not be listed on this page.
Christopher Arp, guitarist for the New York based avant-garde act Psyopus, has released a brand new book titled "Exploding Fingers." The book details how to play in the style of Psyopus, documenting complex finger tapping and scale methods. More details can be found here.
Psyopus has issued the following statement about their drummer offering private drum lessons:
"Jason Bauers, drummer of Psyopus, is now accepting private students for drum set and percussion instruction. Areas of instruction include, but are not limited to, metal, funk, jazz, fusion, concert percussion, snare drum technique, and keyboard percussion. So whether you are looking to develop speed, technical knowledge, build you snare chops, or learn four mallet marimba solos, you will find help here. All ages and skill levels are welcome. If interested, contact Jason at email@example.com for details."
Psyopus has issued the following tour report from the road:
"Our stop in Charleston, South Carolina brought us many wonderful things; a relaxing day at the beach, intense battles against the waters of the Atlantic, naps on the pier, free PBR, and Cornhole. For those of you who aren't hip to backyard summer games, Cornhole is a contest involving two slanted boards with holes in the middle, set up across from one another. Beanbags are tossed at the board with the intention landing them in the hole. A somewhat complex scoring system is used to chart progess, and the first team to 21 wins. Most of us on the tour were Cornhole noobs, but those Woe of Tyrants guys, hailing from southern Ohio, know their collegiate tailgate games. They showed us how it was done. I highly suggest getting into this game if you haven't already.
"Its a great way to usher in the summer. Then it was off to play the Masquerade in Hotlanta for what seems like the 6th or 7th time this year. Not that we mind. The set was certainly an eventful one. Highlights include an unrehearsed rendition of Kill Us (believe me, if you weren't there, you didn't miss much. And if you were, sorry), and Chris handing his axe off to Brian, who in turn gave up his mic to Chris for an encore of 'Play Some Skynard'. Hey, when you play Atlanta as often as we do, you've got to make it interesting somehow. Sometimes endless shredding just won't cut it. Right?"
Psyopus is currently streaming the song "Duct Tape Smile" from their latest album "Odd Senses" online at their MySpace page. The band also issued the following road report:
"Last night, Fredericksburg,VA took a trip in the Psyopus time machine to visit the ghosts of Psyopus past. Our dear friends and former bandmates Mike Horn and Harrison Christie joined us on stage to reconstruct not one, but two former Psyopus lineups. The ‘Odd Senses’ lineup jamed out ‘Medusa’, seemingly closing out the set. But wait! On comes Harrison to perform ‘Our Puzzling Encounters Considered’ and a pantsless rendition of the Psyopus classic ‘Bones To Dust’. I mean, really, would you have it any other way?
"Meeting up with old friends on the road is always a treat, and sharing the stage with them once again is a great pleasure. A fun night was certainly had by all (except for the kid in front who was accosted by a pantsless giant screaming bloody murder about his cocaine problem). Thanks guys. It was a blast."
Las Vegas' Molotov Solution has posted two new songs, “Living Proof “and “The Harbinger,” to their MySpace page. The two songs come off of “The Harbinger,” the band's sophomore album and Metal Blade debut album, which will be released everywhere on June 9th. More...
Florida technical metal band, ATHEIST will be touring North American this July with THE FACELESS, Psyopus, The Agonist, and Gnostic. GNOSTIC, is a band made up of 3/4 of ATHEIST’s members. Atheist and Gnostic drummer Steve Flynn comments on the tour:
"We're absolutely thrilled to be doing this tour with such an incredible lineup of brutal technical bands. This bill is going to just peel your face off. Not only are all the bands insanely technical and heavy, but the lineup also covers a broad spectrum of style - from the almost avant-garde sound of PSYOPUS to the straight up technical death metal sounds of GNOSTIC and ATHEIST. Then you throw in the more modern break-neck technicality, unrivaled musicianship and speed of THE FACELESS, and the brutality of THE AGONIST, and you've got yourself one hell of a night. This will also be somewhat experimental in the world of technical death metal, as 3 of us (me on drums, Chris Baker on Guitars, and Jonathan Thompson on bass (in GNOSTIC) and guitars (in ATHEIST)) are in two bands and playing TWO shows per night. I can't recall a similar situation in technical death metal. It will be a marathon-esque physical and mental exercise. This tour will also be GNOSTIC's debut to the world as we're supporting our first release via Season of Mist: 'Engineering the Rule' in July." More...

The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will introduce an additional stage this year dedicated to up and coming bands.
The third stage, sponsored by Deathcote Records, will be located at Chasers Nightclub, located behind the Palladium on the corner of Martin Luther King and Commercial streets. The main festival will be taking place at the Palladium.
“There are so many great bands and not enough time to get all of them on during the course of two days,” said festival co-organizer Sott Lee. “Adding a third stage is a great way for us to showcase some of the developing bands and it’s a terrific opportunity for these bands to play alongside some of today’s top metal and hardcore bands.”
The New England Metal and Hardcore Festival will take place on Friday, April 17 and Saturday, April 18, with the Atticus pre-party on Thursday, April 16. This year’s event is presented by Randall Amplifiers, Washburn Guitars and Eden Electronics. Metal Blade Records will present the main stage. Prosthetic Records will present the second stage.
The Atticus-sponsored pre-party will be a unique event that will be combining film and music, kicking off with a screening of official film sponsor Anchor Bay's film "Crowley," co-written by none other than Iron Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson. The provocative supernatural thriller is the tale of a virtual reality experiment gone wrong, sending the soul of the British occultist Aleister Crowley into the body of a shy university professor. But even as Crowley creates all-new orgies of depraved pleasures and black magic, he is now preparing to unleash the ultimate occult event upon the world. Also showing is "Anvil! The Story of Anvil," a sometimes revealing, sometimes hilarious documentary about the legendary Canadian metal band. The movie follows best friends Robb Reiner and Lips as they make a pact to rock together forever. Their band, Anvil, hailed as the "demi-gods of Canadian metal, " influenced a musical generation that includes Metallica, Slayer, and Anthrax, despite never hitting the big time. Following a calamitous European tour, Lips and Robb, now in their fifties, set off to record their 13th album in one last attempt to fulfill their boyhood dreams. The film will be followed by a performance by the band itself. The pre-party will also be held at the Palladium. Admission is free with a weekend pass or $15 for non-ticket holders.
Prices this year are $40 for Friday, $45 for Saturday or $79 for a 2-day ticket that also includes free admission to the kick off party on Thursday. Tickets are available at all Strawberries, FYE Stores, online at tickets.com or by calling (800) 477-6849. Tickets are available now.

Psyopus has posted a new music video online for the song "The Burning Halo," which comes off their latest album "Odd Senses." The video can be viewed below. More...
Ohio's Woe of Tyrants are currently debuting their video for "Break the Fangs of the Wicked" at this location. The video was directed by Jake Beemer with Siege Media and filmed at the Majestic Theatre in Chillicothe, OH.
Vocalist Chris Catanzaro explains the video and its concept, "We were very honored to have the opportunity to work with Jake and the crew of Siege Media on our first video for the new record, 'Kingdom of Might.' The song is entitled 'Break the Fangs of the Wicked,' and despite being one of our most popular live songs, Fangs was chosen due to the fact that it successfully culminates the diversity and overall theme of the entire record. The video was shot in our hometown of Chillicothe, OH at the legendary Majestic Theater. We were fortunate enough to have some close, and very talented, friends come out to serve as the performers in the video. The storyline follows the song in that the song is about rising above negativity and evil and going back to square one in our love for our fellow person. We felt this was an important message to convey amidst a genre that speaks death almost constantly, and thanks to the professionalism of the crew we are very confident that it is going to turn out even better than we initially expected!" NY grinders, Psyopus, have revealed Brian Woodruff as their newest vocalist.
"Psyopus is long overdue and happy to announce new vocalist Brian Woodruff into the band. If you've seen Psyopus at all since the beginning of our Grinding Into Cataclysm tour that began in August, you may have noticed the new face on the stage. Well, Here is the explanation. After Harrison Christie's announced replacement, Matt Duckbirth, flaked out shortly after our press release of his joining the band, we replaced him with Brian. Brian was known as the vocalist from the Binghamton/Rochester, NY band As This Body, I Exist. We worked with him intensely, brought him into the studio and recorded the new album. This album was recorded with Brian. VERY shortly there after we jumped in the van and headed out for tour with War From a Harlots Mouth, Fuck the Facts and Left to Vanish. Again, after the premature press release that Matt was joining our band, we wanted to make sure that Brian was indeed the kat for the band before we made it "official". We are now here to say that he is indeed the kat for the job. Be prepared for a notch up in the vocal brutality of Psyopus."
