Dragonsclaw Filming New Music Video

Australia's Dragonsclaw, which was recently covered in the power metal edition of our "Unearthing the Metal Underground" column, has now checked in with the following announcement about working on a new music vidoe:

"Day 3 of our music video for 'Darkness Within,' The concept footage... The weather stayed on our side, as we shot in alley ways and generally tried to get it all done as fast as we could...

"We still went till the early hours of the morning, this was guerilla style film at it's best, But I'm confident it's going to look great...

"A great actress, a great actor, a director who knew exactly what he wanted... fake blood and a helpful crew! All made this a lot easier! This one is in the Alice Cooper / Lizzy Borden style of clips... Hope you like it!"

Unearthing The Power Metal Underground

Power metal: master of epic guitar solos and frequent champion of all that is cheesy. Some love it for the deliciously grandiose high-pitched vocals, and others hate it for the exact same reason. While not all can appreciate the lyrical themes and vocal stylings of the genre, the level of both passion and technical proficiency displayed by the power metal virtuosos can't be denied. There are the obvious big names in the scene like Fates Warning, Blind Guardian, and Jag Panzer, but what’s going on in the underground these days?

Unlike with the hordes of black metal or death metal, there isn’t nearly as large a pool of unknown talent in the power realm. In this case that’s not necessarily a bad thing, as lesser quantity can lead to better quality. For this week’s edition of Unearthing the Metal Underground, we’ll look at three lesser known bands from different corners of the globe that all approach the power metal style from a slightly different angle.

Tiluland

To start our expedition into the power metal underground we’re headed to Finland for a tour-de-force of shredding solos and pounding drums. Tiluland dropped the debut album “Axes of the Universe” last year and put a surprising twist on the style by going completely instrumental. Driven by guitar acrobatics instead of the standard falsetto singing, Tiluland is the band for you if you love the fast and epic instrumentation of the genre but don’t care for the vocal style.

Check out more on Tiluland via Facebook, or listen to two songs from the “Axes of the Universe” album below.

Dragonsclaw Finish Recording Debut LP

Australian metal act Dragonsclaw announced the completion of the band's debut album, “Prophecy.” The full announcement reads:

"Dragonsclaw have recently completed recording for their debut album, “Prophecy”, which is being produced by Stu Marshall (Paindivision, Empires of Eden, Ex-Dungeon). The album contains 10 solid tracks of indomitable metal and features a very special guest vocal performances by Blaze Bayley who’s legacy includes Wolfsbane & British metal legends Iron Maiden, and Alessandro Del Vecchio of Edge Of Forever, Eden’s Curse, Glenn Hughes, Ian Paice, James LaBrie. Original artwork for the album was designed by Maggotmaster. 'Prophecy' will be released in late 2011 and is sure to claw the ears of the most discerning power metal aficionados."

Vocalist Giles Lavery has the following to say regarding the bands debut: "We have worked really hard on putting together the best collection of songs, scraping anything that wasn’t up to our highest standards; infact we wrote and recorded one track we felt very strongly about in the final days of recording … totally crazy but thats what it takes to have the best record we can! The melody and song-writing has gotten a little bit lost these days in modern metal, we are hoping to re-introduce that while maintaining the crushing power that only heavy metal can provide , basically everything we grew up with and loved about the genre is here on display. I cannot wait for people to hear this material and to perform it live once we hit the road! Might I also add that working with Blaze Bayley is a dream come true, being a massive Maiden/Blaze fan I am truly honoured!"

Guitarist Ben Thomas had this to add: "For me its been a long time coming, but I feel the wait is worth it. Also noteworthy is the lyrical contributions from Corey Wyer from the band “The Cursing Stone."

The members of Dragonsclaw are:

Ben Thomas – Guitars
Giles Lavery – Vocals
Ray Martens – Keyboards
Aaron Thomas – Bass Guitars & Orchestration

Dragonsclaw is currently looking for a full time drummer. More...
